The GooD!: Shrimp burger– is actual shrimp and not just ground up shrimp pressed into an unrecognizable patty– really really good. Kettle chips are homemade– also good. My friends all got cheeseburgers– which I tried and not bad but my shrimp burger was better! So this place is by LSU– in same shopping center as Walk-on’s. I freely admit I would not have been there but for the Auburn game. Walk ons was packed– like an hour wait(2 ½ hours before kick off) and Brecks was not. Decent patio– in the same space as the old Moe’s. The beer was cold($ 9 for a canebrake– eh) and the food was good. We all so full we could not even eat the random tailgating food. I would go to this place again.

Returned yesterday and they were not as busy as the previous visit 3 weeks or so ago. Policy on burgers changed – either fully dressed or plain — nothing in between — their belief is price allows them to do this but they now allow one to have a plain burger so that is a baby step forward. The salad with the endless pasta has not changed — you get Caesar or you do not get! No substitutions here — -even though I would not agree with it, you would think they would at least offer to do it for a slight surcharge but that was not even offered. And at the bottom of the regular menu management indicates a willingness to alter offerings if it will please the customer. With school about to start and football season 15 days away I suspect the gross sales will indicate better months than previous ones but decisions like the above indicates the customer’s desires do not come first. I was hoping for a different result this time but left without that vibe.

Went there tonight Friday August 7.2015 Martinis night $ 4.00 great deal! I asked the waitress to suggest a martini! She did blueberry martini! It was so sweet you could not drink it! I told her I didn’t like it! Did not ask if I wanted do something else made another one it wasn’t any better! Gave me no Choice but to pay for that one! I let others at the table to taste it to sweet! It would have been better if they would have let the Guest pick another drink that they would enjoy!

This place has a few things going for it. We went for the restaurant week event. It was ok, but everyone who ordered off the menu looked like they were getting a much better plate. I enjoyed my main course of crawfish angel hair. It had a fantastic flavor overall. I thought the appetizer was pretty good as well. The dessert was not good. The brownie was gritty.

I decided venture to Breck’s to try their Restaurant Week menu as it is located relatively close to my home. Like every other place participating in Restaurant Week, they had a three course menu. For course one, I decided on the Marsala Mushroom Ravioli. For course two, I went with the Pork Ribeye. And course three was a brownie with your choice of 1 of three gelato flavors. The ravioli in course one were fairly good, even if the portion was quite small. The mushroom was super earthy, but hearty and filling. The sauce was delicious and the ravioli itself was also, ok. But the star of this show was course two, the pork ribeye(two nicely cooked pork chops). The pork was perfectly cooked and coupled with this wonderfully delicious light sauce. I’d return and just order this and be very happy. The pork came with a small side of steamed veggies(broccoli, carrot, and zucchini). The meal, however, ended on a sour note… or should I say a chalky, dry, and tasteless note. The dessert was not great… to be polite. The brownie was chalky and dry. It tasted like it was one of those healthy, tasteless, gluten free alternative brownies… only worse tasting. There was nothing the gelato could have done to make up for the awful brownie it was on. What a shame… to end a decent meal on that awful note was disappointing.

Was probably the very few times I ever encountered such terrible service. My comrades agreed with me. Idk why but the margaritas tasted like artificially flavored watermelon and our waitress took forever and the restaurant isn’t even that big. We contemplated just walking out and not paying since we were seated by the exit. She attended a table directly next to us that was not her table 15 minutes before she even got to us after giving us an incorrect drink order and refusing to admit it. The food was decent. I can’t imagine paying full price for the food. It was a great deal but I guess you get what you pay for.

Went here for the first time today. We started off with the«baked marinara» it was very tasty. I got the grilled cheese cheese cheese it was killer. My friend got the chicken parm pasta. It has Alfredo at the bottom which was a little weird but she said it was tasty. Service was good and the place is very cool inside. Will definitely be back

I decided to give this place a try since another place I wanted to go to was really busy. Pretty decent variety of pasta dishes. I ordered the Seafood AuGratin $ 15.89 Fresh shrimp and crab sautéed with mushrooms and tossed in a creamy sherry reduction with shell pasta. Topped with mixed cheese and oven baked. Also included was a delicious garlic bread roll. Despite the lack of shrimp and use of shredded crab meat this was a tasty dish. They didn’t go overboard with the cheese like some places will do. I think I will try them again because of the variety of menu items.

Cool lunch spot. Had the shrimp pasta — would highly recommend! Coworker had the crispy chicken salad — she was not a fan.

What a surprise! I tried this place on a whim because I lived down the street and it was something different than the typical greasy college faves in the neighborhood. Now I can’t get enough! The décor is very nice, with white linen tablecloths and large black and white photos on the wall but the prices are very reasonable, and the attitude casual. Last time I went for happy hour, they had martinis under $ 5 that were creative and delicious! Their menu items are wide-ranging, from salads to pastas to sandwiches, they have something for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike! In fact, I’m a meat LOVER but I didn’t miss it one bit on their Nirvega sandwich with portobello mushrooms, cheese, and pesto. The juicy mushrooms make this sandwich a must have! They also offer a choice of pasta in any sauce, a side salad, or their homemade chips as a side item with any sandwich — amazing! If you’re in the mood for pasta, go for the Shrimp Jude. It’s like a blast from the past from the Semolina Shrimp Roban of yore, and it’s a cream sauce party in your mouth with bites of red pepper and green onion in every bite. Do yourself a favor and try this place on the outskirts of LSU’s campus — you won’t be disappointed!

There are a number of negative reviews(which perhaps true 4 – 6 months ago – I’m not sure) about Breck’s, but I have been there two times in the past month and both times the food and service were good. I can’t vouch for everything on the menu, but everything I have had has been very good: Fried Green Tomatoes, BLTC(bacon is amazing), Cajun Carbonara, and the Bread Pudding. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are generous. I think Breck’s is a good restaurant, and I hope others will try it. I give it a 4+ star rating.

I can’t stand not being greeted after I’ve been seated at a restaurant. I sat at a table on Sunday for 25MINUTES!!! There was no offer to bring me a water or ANYTHING. I was looking forward to trying their brunch as I’m a big Sunday bruncher. I hate to say that I’ll never try to go for brunch again. It’s a shame because their dinner was enjoyable and I’m sure brunch would have been the same.

I’ve been here several times, and this place has great potential. The Orielles de Cochon is out of this world and is definitely an item that I can see myself ordering every time I go there(and thus far, I have!). The menu is definitely hit or miss. The River Road Chicken was a rockin’ sandwich, but the dressing on the Ponchatoula Salad Bowl was way off(thank God I got it on the side!) — it was the oddest berry vinaigrette I’ve ever experienced! — and not odd as in unique, odd as in it tastes… peculiar. The last dining experience I had there was disheartening at best(8÷30÷14). The waiter was new and was not very knowledgeable about the bar menu and food menu(to be fair, it was only his first week!), but he was very pleasant and accommodating — definitely made the experience much better than it would have been. We ordered two apps(Orielles de Cochon was one!) and four entrees at our table and all were superb except one. The JamJam Pasta(which had a fairly vague description in the menu) was edible at best — a food crime against the State of Louisiana at worst. The first bite killed my appetite and made me wish I had stopped the meal before that taste!(Would have ended on a high note!). The waiter asked either the manager or owner(not 100% sure which) if I could exchange it for a different item. I even said that I’d be perfectly happy with something far less expensive. The manager refused to do anything for us and did not even leave his comfy seat at the bar to come see how we were doing. It made me feel like he could care less whether we liked our experience or not. After that I paid the bill without raising any further issues and gave the waiter a nice tip, as his good attitude saved the experience for us. Needless to say, I was very disappointed with this most recent visit, as this restaurant was one I was hoping to frequent. At best I may come get the Orielles de Cochon and possibly the River Road Chicken as take out occasionally.

My girlfriend bought a $ 25 groupon for $ 50 worth of food at Breck’s Bistro. We started off with the fried green tomato appetizer. I can’t really describe without using adjective gross. I mean, we ate it but it was unsightly, greasy and just odd. Then we received our salads; I ordered the Caesar while she got the house with house made raspberry vinaigrette dressing. My Caesar was good except for the homemade croutons which were poorly seasoned and soft with no crisp whatsoever. She finished half her salad and set it aside, when it got near me I could smell the dressing. It was a distinct smell that I could not pinpoint but whatever it was it didn’t belong in salad dressing. For the main course, I ordered the pan seared ribeye, only because we had $ 50 to spend, and she ordered the Cajun Carbonara. Ten minutes later I was informed that they were out of ribeyes. I wasn’t heartbroken by this news; instead I ordered the muffalotta. A healthy portion of the carbonara was served but it was mediocre at best; the muffalotta was ok but very buttery. As for the service, it was slow but polite. If you want mediocre Italian, the Olive Garden is your best bet. I’ll give Breck’s Bistro two stars for their attempt at trying something local and different.

Breck’s bistro offers a nice selection of entrees and appetizers. I have been there twice and received great service. The food portions were substantial. The food tasted good. I enjoyed the martinis. I would recommend it for girls night out for the cheap drinks and the food portions are enough to share.

I visited Breck’s today(their first day open!) with a friend for lunch. The menu looks fabulous and is very diverse– I was torn between a salad, 2 different sandwiches, and 2 different pastas. I eventually ordered the spinach and artichoke pasta that had bowties, olives, spinach, and artichokes in a creamy alfredo sauce. My friend ordered the linguine in alfredo sauce. The service was great and I was greeted at the door with a smile. Our server was friendly and helpful as well. The pasta came out really quickly and we had the pleasure of watching the cooks make our dishes in the open kitchen. The presentation was great, too! Most importantly, the food was totally delicious. The spinach was fresh and not overcooked, and the sauce was just right and not too salty. I appreciated the use of freshly cracked black pepper as well– it added a lot of flavor to my dish! My friend also liked her pasta but thought it was a bit plain. She said she’d order it with spinach added next time, and I think it would be delicious with broccoli and a squeeze of lemon! Finally, the«Lost bread pudding» is out of this world! I love bread pudding and have tried it at many restaurants in Baton Rouge. I have to say that this is the best I’ve tried! Looking forward to coming back and trying other menu items.
