Post Barton Creek

I am very conflicted about our time here at Post Barton Creek. I think the pros and cons weigh in about evenly.
PROS:
–Very friendly staff. Even though the entire front office management and the manager of maintenance have all changed since we’ve been here, I really liked everyone.
–Prompt response to service requests. (Every request I’ve put in has been corrected within the same day, obviously if it was during business hours).
–Clean and reasonably updated interior
–Proximity to downtown
–Lots of natural light (LOVE that).
CONS:
–Sloppy workmanship on repairs. When I reported a water leak that stained our kitchen ceiling, the maintenance guy showed up promptly, which was great, but did a «slap on some paint with a roller» job in 5 minutes. The paint job is, well, obviously poor, and some of the paint spattered in the kitchen. Also, the general aesthetic upkeep of the place was poorly done — messy caulk, messy paint job on bathroom trim. It’s not a biggie, but I would do better.
–No parking. I’m thankful for the garage, but if guests want to park, there a little bitty space in front of your garage that you are allowed to use, and that’s it. There are very few guest parking spaces, and they are always used by not-​so-​thoughtful tenants. We’ve wanted to host people at our house, but we have no place for them to park.
–Our hall closet on the first floor smells like pee. The maintenance people came and tried to clean it up, but it’s never been better. I’d pester them, but I don’t know what’s to be done.
–For people with small kids, note that the roads in the complex take lots of turns and don’t have great visual clearance to see pedestrians. We have two small children with no backyard, so we try to walk around the complex, but I live in terror for my toddler’s life when she runs away from me. Cars come around the curves really fast.
–Like Ajna V, we’ve had packages disappear too. I’m nervous about that, as our front door also backs up to the Greenbelt. When I can’t find a package, the front office is empathetic but unhelpful.
All in all, we’ve enjoyed it here. But there’s definitely room for improvement.

I have been living at Post Barton Creek for about a year and have had a decent experience.
The management staff is friendly and helpful. The units themselves are a bit dated for Austin standards and the actual property/​amenities are minimal. The gym is tiny.
My biggest issue with this property is the case of the disappearing packages. If I am not sending packages to the front office or present at home during delivery, the package disappears. This is odd because my unit faces the greenbelt and is very tucked away. The community is gated and there is no public traffic in front of my door. I would get a few people walking by a week. However, every time a package is left out, it is stolen. It is very concerning as the front door is concealed from the majority of the other tenants and it’s a gated community so there is no access to foreign individuals. This makes me suspect of the management company, staff or other tenants. They would be the only ones aware of my front door and they would have to walk by the door to even see the package.
I have complained to the front office but no resolution has been offered. I feel extremely violated and uncomfortable living here.
Very disappointed tenant.

I like this apartment complex.
It’s close to downtown, right on the trail, provides a townhome structure with no neighbors below and above you, for the price of a very reasonable cost. It really feels like you have your own place.
Management is also always responsive and polite.

I’m much delayed in writing this update and I’m happy to report that the on-​property management saw this review and acted promptly to address the problems I’ve experienced. The new property manager, Josh, took my concerns seriously and sincerely wanted to make sure that things were corrected.
With respect to the issues in my unit, I learned that the maintenance staff had changed – apparently due to management’s realization that work completed was inconsistent and there were too many instances of shortcuts being taken to just check the box. So, while I was away on vacation, Josh had the maintenance team come into my apartment and adjust all the doors throughout the residence. Now everything latches properly, even if the front door still needs a good push to make sure it clicks. The garage door also operates better than before… not perfect but I’ve noticed that other units are having their garage doors replaced so perhaps this is something the next tenant in this unit will enjoy. All in all, though, it’s the little things that make a difference and these small improvement has certainly made living here a better experience.
The management has also been a bit more focused on how tenants treat the property outside their own units. Generally, everything looks just looks a bit more «kept up» an uncluttered. The problem that continues to persist is pet waste and, honestly, I really don’t know what else the property can do. There are waste containers and bags all over the property – literally within 100 feet of any place you stand on the property, often located precisely where most people take their dogs – and yet a lot of people seem to think that it’s someone else’s responsibility to clean up after their pet. I hate to say it, but I guess you’ll run into inconsiderate people/​pet owners pretty much anywhere.
Net-​net, it’s not perfect but that’s an unreasonable bar to set for any rental property. The management and maintenance is much improved, my immediate neighbors are good people, and the location is great for someone like me who works in West Austin and enjoys heading into downtown regularly (but has no interest in living downtown). I suspect that, with a bit more time, the new management will continue to make improvements that will continue to make Post Barton Creek even better.

1 star is beyond generous for this disaster of a complex. My experience (and the experience of a few other friends and coworkers currently trying to get out of their leases) is very similar to that of the previous reviews.
In the 12 months we were at Post, we had to make more than 40 service requests for issues such as roaches, insect infestation, mold, and a faulty A/​C unit.
Roaches/​cricket infestation:
Our apartment was treated for pests (roaches & crickets) 13 times. Neither continual pest control services nor the replacement of both front & garage door sweeps resulted in improved conditions, as there were still roaches in the apartment on a regular basis
One morning, we woke to find at least 50 crickets crawling around the base of our stairs and a few hundred in the garage. I wish I could say this was an exaggeration, but photos we’ve taken prove otherwise. There were crickets falling out of the ceiling vents and in every single light fixture. We alerted Post of this insect infestation — even up to the Vice President level of the company — everyone up to the vice president played it off like this was a totally normal situation. Horrifying.
A/​C:
What A/​C? Ours never worked. In less than a 2 month span, our A/​C unit broke 4 times. Post maintenance: «found an evap leak», «replaced schradder», «installed can of stop leak», and «replaced capcitor». Each day the A/​C unit broke, we came home to find the apartment at nearly 90 degrees which was obviously extremely dangerous as our dog was in the house. Post completely disregarded the situation and the well-​being of the dog, ignoring all requests to replace the unit with a properly functioning one.
Parking:
Ha. What parking? There is maybe 1 guest spot for every 20 apartments. The apartments were jammed in so tightly that when our neighbors parked their car in their driveway, there was no way for us to park our car in ours.
Neighbors:
Of the 6 complexes I’ve lived in in Austin, this one takes the cake for highest number of people feeling like it’s not their job to pick up their own dog’s poop. It was actually incredible. There were poop mines everywhere and it was disgusting.
Maintenance:
Yes, they come within a day or two… but don’t expect the job to get done the first time… or the second time… or the third time… It got to a point that we expected that we would need to file a request and have a maintenance man come over at least 2 – 3 times before anything was fixed.
Quality:
At first glance, it seems like a nice place, but it’s actually a high-​end dump. Low-​quality furnishings and shoddy work in general. When we moved in, the bathtub caulking was a good 2 inches away from the wall, so we had to file a request for the bathtub to be re-​caulked or else there would have been a pool of water sitting between the caulking and the wall.
To top it off, as a «thank you» for all the garbage we had to deal with over our year at Post, management had the nerve to try and raise our rent.
During the first few months of living in Post, we couldn’t figure out why there were at least 3 – 4 moving trucks in the complex per week. Shortly after, it became very obvious.
With all the options out there in Austin, I would never wish this place on my worst enemy. It’s infested, dirty, shoddy and I would never live here again, even if they paid me.

Today is the second time in 2 months that the AC has broken. The maintenance guys are always courteous professional and seem to be very knowledgeable. And Josh is probably the nicest person I’ve ever met. However in direct contrast the woman who answered the phone to take my service call was curt, interrupted me and needs to work on at least feigning interest in her job. I think she enjoyed telling me she had no idea when someone would come fix it.

Even one star is too much for this horrible place. always something is wrong with heating and cooling system. and the maintenance people are not able to fix it.
management is very unprofessional. stay away from this place.

I’m too lazy to retype my myriad complaints about this property, but I agree with the person who posted yesterday. I don’t think anyone in this place has an A/​C unit that functions properly. Not a good thing during the summer in Austin.
This is an overpriced dump that’s run by rude and intolerable people. In all my years of renting I have never encountered such poor customer service and downright nasty attitude from a property manager. I can’t wait to get out of here.

Almost a 3 year resident here and my last term has taken a turn for the worse. New property manager is horrendous. Absolute terrible person. The place is loud and there is constant construction at odd hours. Very thin walls, and next to a major highway.
Maintenance can never seem to Fix my A/​c that sounds like a jet engine they refuse to replace. Also every garage door in the place is failing and falling part, tearing up peoples cars.
There is absolutely no additional parking, so don’t plan on having any guests over. NIGHTMARE!!! My car has been towed twice in two months being parked within the gated community in legal spots. I’ve been threatened and harassed by management to the point of no return. I’ve been verbally abused by these people and threatened with «further correspondence» designed for failure. Really sick of being taken advantage of in my own home considering how much money I have spent to live here. Complete B.S. Do yourself a favor and skip the headache.
