Papyrus

Papyrus makes some really awesome cards, but I was kinda disappointed by the lack of selection, espcially since this was a speciality store. I was trying to find an anniversary card, and they only had like 4 or 5 that I could «make» work for the situation, so I was a little disappointed by that. I am sure they have more selection for other types of cards, but thats not what I was there for.

i am stunned by the negativity of papryus’ reviews. before i moved to austin i went out of my way to find papyrus stores because i knew i could count on the quality and variety of the greeting cards. but before i moved from dallas to denver i shopped for greeting cards almost exclusively at papyrus for the same reason. now that i’m in austin i’ve been going to book people only because the store is in town and i’m a city mouse. however, as i write this, i’m delighted to know there is a papyrus store in austin’s general vicinity — and i know that the next time i’m at the movie house in great hills i’ll mosey over just to see what the domain looks like. and i for sure will stop into my favorite stationery store. i’ve also bought cards from a papyrus store in downtown san francisco. same story. unusual products. oh, and by the way: yes the store islightly pricy, but no more so than really classy cards anywhere else. quality rarely comes cheap. i can’t believe its policies and protocols have changed dramatically now that the company is in upscale austin. finally, the savvy shopper asks how much gift wrapping will cost in advance; some customers take offense at having prices proffered — the implication is that they might not be able to afford it. if the setting is so intimidating that a customer chooses not to ask, well… don’t blame the store.

Whew! Stumbled upon this and I’m amazed at the bad reviews on this place, I love it! I even mentioned to the employee that I had seen their cards in stores (Walgreen’s, etc.) but never realized they had their own stores, she said they were new to Texas!
My experience with this store, was one of a frazzled bride. Deciding a bit too late that I wanted to send out bridesmaid invitations (this is a fairly new, modern thing, even to little paper/​stationary boutiques, and especially so to the larger places) but after a quick browse through a very large selection of invitations, I found the perfect card and was able to customize on spot, right then and there! My sister and I came in late, on a Monday night, and the employee was still gracious enough to help us and give her full attention. The cards were styled, customized, and printed within 30 minutes.
I can’t wait to go back now, and I even said as I was leaving the store, it makes me want to create a card or buy a card for every occasion! I can’t wait to host a party or shower just so I can create some more invitations! The employee was so nice and even gave me some quick tips on some DIY things I could do that night to spruce up the cards if I wanted to (I never did any of these things they looked great on their own!), she was very creative and paid great attention to detail and what I wanted, specifically.
My sister commented that the prices were a bit high, but I don’t think she realized the average cost for cards or invitations of this nature, they are not your boxed Walgreen’s set. They are unique, creative, and thoughtful cards. Worth every penny in my book, and I’m a bit of a penny pincher! She also spent most of her time browsing the gifts.
& To the comment below, it is pretty standard (take it from a girl who can never make up her mind and returns/​exchanges EVERYTHING) that you get your money back in the form it was paid for. i.e. used a debit card, goes back on a debit card. What she probably thought you meant when asked if your wife could return for cash, was if she would get her money back and in full, she probably didn’t realize you meant literally – cash. Seems like a simple misunderstanding to me!

Papyrus has beautiful gifts and cards. However, I left two gifts there to be gift-​wrapped and when I went back to pick them up, the charge was $ 50. I thought that was an exorbitant amount to pay for gift-​wrapping, and I think the salesperson should have warned me about the cost in advance.
