North By Northwest Restaurant & Brewery – Slaughter

They served us warm beer! So gross! Food was alright. Served it in a timely manner. Nice waiter. But. A little pricey for the quality.

I had the ½ Angus beef burger. I added some mushrooms and bacon because why not spoil myself? I could not put that burger down, it was very good and the parmesan and garlic fries went very well with it. You could tell the bun didn’t just come from HEB either it all went very well together. There weren’t a whole lot of people there when me and my friends went so I think that the service could have been better but overall it was a pleasant experience and would definitely go again.

I love the décor and the atmosphere but they sneak pork in items without listing it on the menu which for me is unacceptable. I haven’t eaten pork in 30 years and didn’t appreciate it being in my meal. I spoke to the manager on two separate occasions when it happened and on my most recent visit I was disappointed to learn the menu still hadn’t been updated to reflect the pork so I won’t be back.

We have been here twice since it is opened and the food has been excellent, service is hit or miss. The very first time we came we did happy hour and purchased the fried artichokes, spinach and artichoke dip and purchased the pesto pasta entrée. Food was excellent, service was excellent. Supervisor came by to thank us and all was wonderful. Second time we came we did the calamari on happy hour, it was okay but kind of chewy. We also purchased the skillet cornbread which was an intriguing theory, it was yummy. We divide the Asian chicken salad and it was adequate also. They sell growlers at this place, we ended up getting a growler and they contain your first fill. From my understanding they fill growlers of beer during happy hour for $ 10, so we’ll be back to check that out. The happy hour is great and we’ll be back. Nice to have something new out here.

The Bitterama ESB and Splintercat stout are both good. The calamari is tasty. The Angus cheeseburgers on ciabatta with parmesan fries are delicious. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly.

Great happy hour, food is always delicious from apps to dessert! Beer is good also, great variety and great brewery…

You know how the new «hip» thing is to have all sorts of items in a dish that you would think, «Wow! How could these possibly go together?» and then you get the dish and it’s the most amazing thing ever?
This is NOT the case with NXNW. They have great beer, a decent wine list, but heck no, techno to the food. I end up settling for the least worst option and it’s never great. Can’t ever finish the dish because it’s either too oily, not seasoned at all, or just plain not good. I always have leftovers that stay in the fridge for 2 weeks and then get thrown away. Stopped coming here with my family because there is nothing on the menu that any of us get excited about.

This place is always crowded, and I am not sure why. I’ve eaten there a couple of times and the food is so-​so at best. I’m a vegetarian, so I don’t expect a lot of choice at places like this, but my carnivore friends and spouse aren’t really fond of the food, either. Maybe it’s the bar that attracts people. There are far better places to eat nearby.

I use to give nxnw 5 stars but they’ve made menu changes recently that I’m not a fan of. I use to LOVE their brunch menu but now they’re doing a brunch buffet for $ 18! I just feel like that’s too pricey and I don’t need that much food.

First time visit and pleasantly surprised.
Just stopped in for a beer and snack on the patio with the dog. A few other dogs were also on the patio.
We selected buffalo wings and sausage stuffed mushrooms. Went with the Warpaint IPA.
The wings were best in a while. The sauce seemed not from the bottle and it was finger lickin good. The mushrooms were better than expected. The beer was quite good.
The atmosphere inside and out was comfortable and pleasant.
I could be swayed to 5 stars and need to revisit and try a few more selections. For now I am docking a star for less than stellar service and expensive beer at $ 5.25 for a pint of IPA.

We live in the neighborhood and really want NXNW to succeed, but they’re going to have to do better than they did last night if they want to keep customers coming back.
Went there with the family for dinner. Although my order (Ahi tuna salad) and my stepson’s (chicken fried chicken) were both quite good, my husband ordered a margherita pizza that came out incredibly under done. The tomatoes and basil had been put on the pizza AFTER it came out of the oven, and the pizza crust was simply doughy and undercooked. He talked to the waitress and sent it back. Due to health code rules, they can’t simply put the pizza back in the oven to continue heating it (he’d already taken a bite), so they had to start over. Fine. After waiting for a while, here they come with the 2^nd attempt and it was EXACTLY like the first pizza – undercooked and doughy. After speaking with the manager about how this was not going to cut it, he ended up leaving w/​out having any dinner at all.
The wait staff and the manager were understanding and ended up taking the pizza and the two beers my husband had off the bill. But I’m still just dumbfounded about why they couldn’t get it right. I mean, a big chunk of their menu is devoted to pizza, and the fact that someone in the kitchen would look at either of the pizzas they brought out to us and think that they were ready to serve is kind of alarming.
We’ll give it another shot in the future I’m sure, but I certainly hope they can work out the issues in the kitchen or they’re going to alienate and frustrate a lot of their customers.

We were actually headed to a different spot, but decided last minute we wanted to give Northwest a try. On a Sunday evening it was quite dead, which I don’t mind at all. The weather was nice so we sat outside on their patio. The table we were seated at had JUST enough space for our main entrees and that’s it. We had to set our cell phones/​purses on the extra chair. It’ s a dog friendly joint. I had the fried calamari app that I was pleased with. The serving size was more than enough and the dipping sauces were good. One of them was a tomato sauce of sorts. I had one of their popular dishes the Grilled Chicken Penne Pasta. It was outstanding, but loaded in carbs; Lots of pasta. It’s not a healthy dish by a mile, but a wonderful cheat meal. Our waitress was courteous and prompt enough. The restroom was cleanly and they have wifi. The parking spaces seem to all be designed for compact cars!

Beer: Yes!
Food: No!
Their food looks great in pictures but when ordered & eaten, there’s little to be desired.
Located near Circle C Ranch, NXNW south is located within many other shoppes, restaurants, & even Alamo Drafthouse/​300 Rabbits. Definitely the only brewery in the area & their beers are pretty much the same as what you’d find in the original location.
Tip: DO NOT GO HERE during rush hour. The location being so close to MoPac makes this spot a nightmare to get in & out of between 4−7pm. If you must go here during these hours; walk around, do some shopping, have dinner (at one of the neighboring restaurants), or catch a movie at the Alamo Drafthouse. You will want to wait until after rush hour to leave the vicinity!

Came here for lunch with my mom and sister during the week. It is very cool inside and the staff is very nice! I had the spicy chicken sandwich with garlic parm fries which was delicious!
The menu has some great options and the dinner menu looks great too. The prices aren’t too bad for lunch but a little pricy for dinner.
The service was great and have high standards. We weren’t offered a drink menu maybe because it was in the middle of the week but I wonder if their drinks are as good as their food?!
Also the bathrooms are very nice and the parking lot is big and able to handle large crowds. Can’t wait to come back for a date night soon!

I ordered Asian style Tuna salad. I do not recommend. Tuna was not fresh and they cut each peace too big to enjoy tuna. It was too fishy. I also ordered calamari. It was not enough taste.
I was very disappointed. I left still hungry cause I couldn’t eat them.

My husband and I love this place, we live close and it has become like a neighborhood bar for us. We are a part of the the mug club and also get reward points. We fill up growlers, for home on a regular basis. Everything I have ate or drank has been really good. We always sit in the bar and often get calamari or hot wings. I am a fan of happy hour and they have a good one here. There’s also brunch which is nice, but I don’t eat eggs so I just drink bloody Mary’s and eat a sandwich. All the bartenders are really great. Hey have bands play some night, a nice patio, they do nights where hey have a ballon artist for kids.
Note to the kitchen: the pizza that you had on the happy hour menu used to be better. It used to come with more toppings, now it’s one topping, cost more and defiantly is not as tasty. It’s ok, not bad, just not as good of quality as before and I can taste the difference. I am hoping will will switch back to the way it was or explore other options. We used to get that pizza like twice a week. Now the bread and cheese part is lacking, but the sauce is really good. I will say the hot wings have really improved, I really like the new ones vs. the one flavor that was offered before.

I really dislike North by Northwest. I dislike it in the north, and I dislike it in the south.
For as many times as a group of people has wanted to go, I have never had good food or good service.
Is it because everyone raves about the beer that we don’t need to make sure the food is up to par? I’m fairly sure I have a mild case of food poisoning at the moment. A friend who got the salmon salad called it greasy. Eww.
We did come for a birthday lunch, so we had a group of about nine coworkers. So? When a waitress has that look on her face from the get-​go, you know it’s just going to be the same the whole time.
It wasn’t that busy and service was so slow. I was excited to see the 20% off coupon when I checked in, and tried to tell her when I was ordering but she ignored me and moved on. Of course when the check came, the discount wasn’t there. Then it took her an extra 10 minutes to get her manager to show her how to take 20% off the ticket.
This place has too much of a chain like feel for my liking. If I wanted this kind of food and service I would go to Chili’s.

Loud and very friendly the food was great and quick I was surprise at the time it took to serve all of us we all were very happy and they did a great job of taking care of all of a party of 20 .
All kinds of beers, will I be back yes sir Buckaroo.

Was looking to have a company Christmas party for 15 people and my employee recommended NXNW and I’m thrilled she did.
From my first inquiry email to the manager, the service and response was fantastic. We got there a bit early and they had everything ready for us.
He helped me prior with a prefixe menu and they gave us a space in the side room. The server was awesome and brought out the appetizers quickly while getting us our drinks too.
They had a menu printed for us as well which was a nice surprise. The entrees were fabulous. Pork chop, cedar plank salmon, seafood pasta… amazing.
They even sent out some complimentary desserts that were scrumptious. The attention to detail was great.
I threw 5 Christmas parties this year and this was by far the most successful in every way.
Hats off to the management and servers.
Thank you for making it the best Christmas dinner.
Call them for any party and you won’t be disappointed.

Update … I love NXNW! They are awesome and deserve this 5 star rating from me!
I looked and looked around for different places to have my rehearsal dinner the day before my wedding and it really was not as easy as I thought. Austin is a hip city with lots of people that enjoy going out and to reserve a place for 35 people on a Friday night at 6:30 was a task. It seemed like the places I looked at before NXNW were all really, really expensive or weren’t nice enough or something. There was always something and it was frustrating not getting responses from people/​evet coordinators from other restaurants.
Finally I reached out to the events person from NXNW, Elizabeth Ramsey and she was so easy to work with! She asked all the right questions and gave me the pricing. The Yukon room at NXNW was big enough for my party and it ended up being the perfect fit. Elizabeth informed me that there was no charge to reserve the room, you just have to commit to spending a minimum amount of money. The minimum amount can very on dinner vs lunch and day of the week. For me this was perfect since I knew with the size and the amount we would reach that easily. All communication with Elizabeth was done over email and super easy. We ended up setting up a small menu for my group, which was so cute.
We chose 2 salads for the menu — field greens salad and caesar salad. We had picked out 3 appetizers as well that were not on the menu, but they were just dispersed evenly among the tables — the fried calamari, fried artichoke hearts and the wings. We chose 5 main courses — tuna, chicken, duck, pork and ribeye steak dishes. We also had 2 desserts — the seasonal cheesecake and chocolate terrine.
I had the field green salad, duck dish and sampled many of the appetizers. It was all delicious. My guests were pleased with their food and service too! Everyone also loved their beers, cocktails and wine! We all drank and were merry! The seasonal cheesecake was blueberry and was creamy good! I had never had blueberry cheesecake but now I hope to have it again! I heard the chocolate terrine was rich and chocolaty awesome too.
We had several servers that were busting it out to ensure everyone always had a drink or people were getting their salads out at the same time as everyone else and so forth. The service was exceptional! Everyone from Elizabeth and the staff working that night helped make sure I had a successful rehearsal dinner for 35 people which was a win in my book and WOOHOO — as good as it gets! Literally! Thanks NXNW!
