My family and I have eaten here several times when it was Giss’s. As other reviewers have said, the menu is very similar. I always enjoyed the BBQ pork sandwich, so ordered it again and found it far from what it used to be. This time around it was over-cooked, dry, and almost completely flavorless. My wife ordered the chicken kebabs and it was a fine meal. The table service was good, though I really don’t care for places that have sodas in cans only — I much prefer fountain drinks. I was also surprised that at 7PM the place was virtually empty. Both the chef and what appeared to be the owner were there, obviously with time on their hands, but didn’t come over to our table at all — which, if I were the new owner, I certainly would. All in all, we’ll probably go back, but unless things are significantly better next time, it’ll be our last trip.

I would just like to respond to the other review about Mockingbird Kitchen. My sister is actually the new owner and we were all pretty devastated by this review. I know for a fact that my sister is working very hard to change the restaurant and to be creative. She is showing the review to all of her staff and appreciates any suggestions, but to put something so scathing on the web where it will theoretically be there forever could potentially ruin someone, especially when you are an independent business. Why would you want to do that? She knew when she took ownership that she had a lot of work. Her focus is on the menu, but it’s not as easy as this gentleman might think. I hope anyone reading that review will realize that it’s unneccesarily mean. She has had many, many great comments and great response. She is taking the review seriously and hopes that people will give her a chance. As for the décor that unfortunately is going to take awhile due to budget concerrns. I just hope that this doesn’t make it any harder.
