My experience was somewhat clinical and textbook feeling. I think in the two 40+ min nursing sessions there was a missed opportunity to relate to me or even offer information about the entire holistic breastfeeding experience. When your entire clientele is sleep deprived and overwhelmed, you have an opportunity to provide support, encouragement and warmth (even just basics like please remind FTMs to bring their pump. What a missed opportunity!).
Everything had a clinical feeling to it, including the silence in the room as I sat there feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, and nursing my baby for his next weight-​check. I suspect that the consultant I worked with did not have personal experience. My baby immediately began having difficulty nursing — perhaps nipple confusion from the bottle I was advised to introduce as soon as I got home. Still working this out several weeks later. I am a bit envious of the other reviewers who had such different experiences.

Tiffany and Cathy are so caring and helpful. I love how they take the time to understand your personal situation. I highly recommend them if you need guidance during breastfeeding.

When my son was born, I thought my breasts would fill with milk, he would naturally latch on and breastfeeding would be a breeze. Boy was I mistaken! When we came home from the hospital, my son and I struggled to find a breastfeeding balance. That’s where Cathy Clark came to the rescue. After just a few visits with Cathy, she worked us through my sons latching issues, low weight concerns, and my low milk supply. She advised me on a healthy diet for lactating mothers, a pumping schedule and daily supplements to keep my supply up. She calmed my anxious new Mommy fears and told me exactly how much milk I was making and how much my son needed based on his weight. She was patient during every appointment and encouraging at every weight check. It is an indescribable feeling to watch him grow and know he is getting the best nutrition possible because of my amazing breast milk. I am now naturally producing more than enough breast milk to keep my son happy and healthy thanks to Cathy Clark!

Cathy was instrumental in making the birth of my first child — and subsequent nursing of him — a positive experience.
Actually, it really wasn’t positive at first, but Cathy changed all that.
I started out having difficulty with my baby latching. We had a heads up that this might be a problem for me from her breastfeeding class at the dr’s office when I realized I had relatively flat nipples. So, we visited prior to having the baby and she worked with me to get that fixed in advance. Still, our son had trouble latching but was able to so easily with a nipple shield. What I didn’t realize is this was affecting his ability to get as much food as he needed. So, when he wasn’t gaining the appropriate weight at his 2 week check-​up, we went to Cathy. She ascertained that it was the shield and also got him to latch like a champ on our first visit! Problem solved.
Then, I ended up getting thrush pretty much at the outset of nursing making it extremely painful. My own doctor, friends and even the pediatrician all echoed the same comments that breastfeeding is painful and took a while to get used to. So, I tried to just tough it out. Finally, after about 6 weeks, I returned to Cathy for help. She almost immediately realized I had thrush by simply paying attention to me and asking a few probing questions. Within a couple of weeks it had cleared up and my idea of nursing changed completely (so much easier without the pain!!)
Outside of those two major issues, she also helped me navigate the very confusing aspects of pumping and alleviated my concerns about how much our son was taking in and if it was enough, etc. I never thought nursing would be filled with so many landmines and questions. Cathy helped me through all of it. I’m so grateful to have had her during such an emotionally vulnerable time. I consider her my go-​to expert and probably bug her too much, but she always happily obliges.

Cathy Clark is my go-​to lactation consultant to recommend to everyone I know! She is wonderfully brilliant and capable of working through any breastfeeding issue with you.
My husband and I took Cathy’s breastfeeding class when I was expecting our first child in 2005. It was a great class and got my husband very engaged in our future path of nursing our children.
After my first was born in 2006, I was having some latch issues which led to terrible nipple trauma. Cathy talked to me at length on the phone on a Sunday night and the next day we went to her office for an appointment. By that Wednesday, my blisters were nearly completely healed and I went on to have a successful 16 month long nursing relationship with my daughter. I am now going on 9 months of nursing our second daughter.
I highly recommend taking Cathy’s class to get to know her before you have a baby that way if you need a LC you already have one in your back pocket. I also bought my medela pump from Cathy at a much better price than is found at local retail stores.
