Coddington Construction

I’m writing to you to submit a complaint about Coddington Construction:
* They didn’t do the job right in the first place.
* They won’t stand by their work.
Here is some history:
* In January 2003, Coddington Construction installed siding on the south side of my home. They charged $ 7231.00 for the work.
* In July 2003, it was professionally caulked and painted after the siding work was done.
* In August 2012, my home was professionally caulked and painted.
I have maintained my home and have kept it in excellent condition.
In December of 2015, I removed the drywall from the inside of my home on the south side to expose the studs for a partial remodel. I saw significant water damage on the inside wall, and it was extremely wet.
I called Coddington Construction, Inc and Ken Coddington came out on December 18, 2015. He saw the water damage and touched the wet walls and stated that I would have to locate where the water is coming in.
I know that with water leaks, it’s hard to locate the source, so I’ve been checking this part of my home every day that it rains. Every time there is a heavy rain, I can see that the inside wall on the south side of the house continues to gets wetter and wetter. There are a few places where I can see the vapor barrier on the inside wall, and it’s dripping wet.
I called Ken Coddington again. He came out on January 14, 2016 and partially caulked two windows on the south side.
This did not fix the problem. During heavy rains, the south inside of my home continues to get wet and soggy.
I called Coddington Construction for the third time on January 28, 2016. The last visit was on January 29, 2016. Ken Coddington came out, was very irritable, and said that he would not fix anything without charging me.
I believe that because there wasn’t insulation in the walls, there wasn’t any evidence of water damage until the drywall was removed. The south inside wall of my home has been getting wet when it rains for years.
I believe that the flashing around two of the windows and belly band was not installed correctly and needs to be installed properly to keep water out.
I paid a professional siding contractor, Coddington Construction to install siding on my home. I believe that the installation of new siding and flashing should last more than 12 years. Coddington Construction needs to fix this.
I am hoping for a quick resolution from Coddington Construction to this ongoing problem, so I can move forward with my remodel.

I saw previous reviews and I was really surprised. I had nothing but a great experience with Coddington, who completed my siding and added some windows. I had several estimates and theirs was right in the middle. They went out of their way helping me design the siding (for no cost), I met with a woman, Gabrielle, who is a designer in the group who helped me with some ideas, pictures, and recommendations. She was surprisingly knowledgable about building/​siding as well as design. I ended up picking out some stone for a couple small areas, which I liked in the photo, was a little worried when I saw it on the flat, but when it was installed, it looks amazing. The windows and siding also look perfect. I was working with a contractor for most of the building project, but I wanted to pick my own sider. I was really proud when Richard from Coddington came out to discuss the project with the contractor, and blew them away with his knowledge and recommendations… which saved me a lot of money by changing things around the way the architect had them drawn. They actually asked for his card for future projects. I had the siding done in the winter, and waited for the painting in the spring, and they never forgot about me. After working with contractors and so many subcontractors which I had so many troubles with, I am so grateful to have worked with Coddington on the siding, because they did everything right. I never make the time to give reviews, I’m too busy, but I really think they are great people, do great work, and I would recommend them to my friends and family.

I used Coddington Construction to replace some 45-​year-​old cedar siding with Hardie siding, then repaint the entire exterior of the house. His bid was right on the mark and competitive with the others I’d received — except that Coddington did both jobs. The other contractors didn’t paint, and the painters didn’t replace siding.
His people, from the estimator Richard to the construction crew to the painting crew, were polite, professional, got the jobs done quickly, and cleaned up everything each day.
Definitely would hire them again.

Great people. James Hardie preferred installer. Did not use them because they were thousands of dollars higher on the estimate bid than many other interviewed contractors in the area.

The latest update is they didn’t pay the building supplier even though we paid them a 13k check for that portion of the project. Now the building supplier has a lien on our house.
