Dr. Gedamu and Associates

I am writing this review mainly about the young Asian doctor in case you’re thinking of making one trip for your vision needs. She gave me the wrong prescription, and after waiting to get my new lenses, neither she nor her inexperienced front desk staff could make up for prescription mistakes made by her, and what’s worse? and her «lunch» hour took priority over patient care. A very unprofessional and unfriendly environment. Dr. Gedamu & Associates is hands down the worst office I have been to and there is absolutely no customer service offered. There are way too many vision offices around to settle for this kind of poor medical practice– don’t waste your time or money like I did. Think twice before going to a doctor and office that practices out of a mall, cause you get what you pay for.

I have been here twice in about a year and a half and very impressed with Dr. Nguyen who makes you feel comfortable, gives you time and explains besides being patient.
I would follow her anywhere. I was also impressed with the detailed notes she had made from my previous visit !
The front of the house staff was efficient today, even though one had a cast on her hand and the other a bandage on her knee :)

Pleased as punch with this office. Easy to make appointment online. Upon arrival the staff was friendly. One woman was on the phone with an insurance company advocating on behalf of a client. Dr. Nguyen saw me within 5 minutes. She has a competent caring manner that immediately put me at ease. I did not feel pressured at the end to choose a certain product or had someone try to upsell me.

As with other reviewers, I’ve been coming to this location «next to LensCrafters» in the Pentagon City Mall for several years. The only reason I’ve used this place is because of its location. Up to now, the service has been «good enough to keep me coming back» as another reviewer mentioned. The ownership of this particular office has changed hands several times in the past dozen years and the quality of service has taken a steady nose-​dive with every change.
Today I called AGAIN to check on a «trail pair» of contacts that were supposed to be ordered THREE MONTHS AGO. I was told that my lenses could not be found and that they’d have to be «re-​ordered». I’m not happy about the news, but people make mistakes and things like this happen. Then I’m told that because so much time has lapsed since my original exam, I’d have to pay another $ 45 for an «additional fitting fee». I asked that the doctor (Dr. Tewodros Gedamu) call me and explain why I should pay extra because he and his staff failed to order my «trail pair» of contacts. Not surprising, I haven’t heard back.
There are two letters on the eye exam chart appropriate for the way this business treats their patients…“F” and «U».

I’ve been coming to this place since I’ve moved to the DMV 4 years ago and the experiences were fine up until today. My DR is really nice, but I was not treated like a loyal customer today. I was asked to get my eyes dilated which I seriously didn’t want to waste my life doing, but I did it because I didn’t get it done when I was asked last year. My appt was scheduled for 6:10pm I got caught up at work and called around 5:30 saying that I would not be on time. I was told that I would be considered a walk-​in appt if I was more than 10 mins late. I arrived exactly at, or seconds before 6:20. At 6:45 I was told that my appt would need to be rescheduled because I was late. Considering the fact that I asked on the phone if I should reschedule and I wasn’t informed until I had already waited for 25 minutes, I am EXTREMELY upset at how I was dismissed this evening. Why not just tell me not to come in when I asked earlier? Why not just tell me as soon as I arrived that my appt was no longer plausible? Why waste my time? I wouldn’t have minded being rescheduled if I had been told in a timely manner, like when I ASKED an hour ago!

While I was not impressed with the reception staff, who don’t seem to like to interact with people very much, Dr. Nguyen was thoughtful, extremely thorough and gave me great confidence in the care and recommendations she provided. The appointment was not rushed and all my concerns were covered clearly before I left.

I’ve been here twice before for vision exams and contact lens fittings, and while they weren’t spectacular, the service was good enough to keep me coming back. Until today. Today I stopped in to see if they accepted my new vision plan, and was treated with such condescension by the front desk staff that I’ll be looking elsewhere for my vision services in the future.
Lesson for the front desk staff? Know what vision plans you accept, and don’t assume your consumers don’t know how health insurance /​vision insurance works (hint: I work for a health care exchange).
