Specialties
At Art Underfoot, we specialize in quality antique and decorative rugs and carpets. Our inventory includes a wide variety of traditional Persian, Caucasian, Turkoman, East Turkistan, and other designs in a range of sizes and formats — from small throw rugs to «embassy» over-sizes — that you will not find anywhere else.
We travel frequently to the major rug-producing areas and personally select all the rugs we sell, carefully choosing only pieces with quality wools and dyes. Because we own our own factory and also buy directly from other producers, we are able both to obtain the best quality and to offer our rugs to our customers at attractive prices.
History
Established in 1986.
Nabi Nasseri started helping his mother in her Oriental rug shop when he was a six-year-old boy. He went through school and studied to be an electrical engineer, but never lost his love for oriental rugs. He has always seen more in the rugs… the architecture of their design… the structure incorporated in their manufacture. Studying computers in school gave him even more appreciation for oriental rugs; he realized that the women who make the rugs have incredible skills.
Today, having left his engineering career, he owns the Art Underfoot gallery in Old Town Alexandria. Stepping into the store is like entering Ali Babbas cave.
It is a large deep space with oriental rugs from floor to ceiling, including unusual tribal pieces.
