Specialties
Providing old and new to offer our customers signature whole-room designs at great prices.
Old could be an antique armoire or cabinet. It could be a rustic workbench or a classic oak table. It could also mean fun and quirky conversation starters like old wooden pullies, industrial textile spools or kitchen implements.
New is our upholstered furniture, Dash & Albert rugs, designer bedding, Frances Palmer dishes or Fishs Eddy glasses and mugs. We also have a great assortment of lotions, soaps, books and more.

History
Established in 2007.
Red Barn Mercantile opened its doors in September 2007 with a single vision in mind: Providing old and new to offer our customers signature whole-room designs at great prices.
We’re more than a furniture boutique and provide more personalized service than a big box retailer. We work hard to bring you the highest quality furniture and gifts, the most unique conversation starters, wall hangings and accent pieces, whether they come from off-the-beaten-track flea markets, or the latest designers.
Owner Amy Rutherford started Red Barn because she wanted to deliver a service — to provide both old and new in one place.
We are a family-run business run with families in mind. Alexandria is our home, so we consider you not only a customer, but also our neighbor and friend.
Meet the Business Owner
Amy R.
Business Owner
I am a third generation antiquer. I remember playing in my grandmother’s shop in Tulsa, Oklahoma, when I was a little girl. And have visited countless flea markets with my mom growing up. We still go out together to find items for the store today.
I am also a wife and mom and have tried to make Red Barn Mercantile a comfortable family-friendly store. I believe antiques should be enjoyed, that furniture should be used. So you won’t find delicate items under glass here, just well worn pieces that have stood the test of time and furniture you can live in.
I consider Alexandria my hometown. Raised in the military, this is the most time I’ve ever spent in one place. But moving around taught me to keep my eyes open to the best side of every situation, and to appreciate uniqueness and fun where I see it. I try to bring that to the store and to my customers by designing looks that let their personalities shine through.
