This was a great choice for our multi-generational group of five. We ordered steak(filet), breaded veal cutlet and a Valentine’s special prix fixe dinner for two, which included two appetizers(we selected chorizo and a meat empanada), two entrees(we selected pork medallions — really, boneless pork chops — and veal neapolitan), and a dessert(we selected vanilla flan). The Valentine’s special also came with a bottle of wine(we selected Cabernet, from a choice of three). Everything was very tasty, hot and cooked to order, with generous portions. The high point was the filet, which arrived perfectly cooked and tasted fantastic. I am stunned at the number of reviews here talking about flavorless meat(how much steak sauce they added, etc.) — our steak was perfect. Pork was a bit dry, but the veal dishes were very good, as were the sides(we tried the salad, fries, tostones). Service was also excellent — very friendly and patient with questions. In fact, when it became clear we wanted to try a number of different dishes, it was our waitress who pointed out the Valentine’s special, which we had not noticed. Décor is now so far out of date that it qualifies as charmingly retro.

One of the worst places I’ve eaten in Isla verde. Poor service, high prices and terrible food.

I went to Che’s to have a last dinner with my family. The reason we chose it was because they server Argentinean food, which I can’t get in Rochester, and because they closed later, and we were late diners that night. My brother and Sister-in-Law tried the parrillada, a collection of different grilled meats, very traditional for Argentina. The parrillada had a good selection of meat cuts, ribs, steaks, sweetbreads, Argentinian chorizo, and blood sausage. My SIL wanted it well done, so I cannot really give this selection of food a fair review. I can say that they used a charcoal grill and the flavor was there. My niece asked for a Pollo Milanesa a la Napolitana(it’s basically the Argentinian version of Chicken Parm) and it was lovely. It has less sauce than the American version, and the breading is thinner, but they didn’t skimp on the cheese nor the quantity. My niece was thrilled with the main dish. She was less thrilled with side, mashed potatoes. Although they were homemade, they lacked taste, they were just salted. I had the Mollejas(sweetbreads) and they were simply served grilled, with lime wedges and a side of tostones. They sweetbreads were tasty and tender, except on the areas that were not cleaned quite thoroughly. If you don’t mind working around the sinew, I recommend you try it, really tasty way to serve this decadent dish. We go complimentary bread with two sauces, a fresh tomato one and a chimichurri sauce. Both sauces were very good, but the chimichurri was still the star, garlicky and herby and wonderful. I used it on my tostones, and even though we got a generous serving, we fought over it. At then end of night we share an alfajor, a traditional Argentinian pastry. It was so delicious, stuffed with one of the best dulce the leche that I have ever had. Great ending to our meal The service was prompt and friendly and the atmosphere casual. They have a decent wine and liquor list. My issues were with the ambiance, the place needs an update. I felt the meal was good, some of the dishes were great, but it doesn’t quite hit all the spots. I would go again and probably order the parrillada, this time medium rare.

The place never changes and always good! If you want local, great tasting churasco, then this is a must when you come to PR., although I did have very good at one other location… this is still top with fantastic service!

This place is around the corner from where we are staying, so we thought we’d give it a try. We had the Argentina grill for 2. The grill had steaks, sausages, veal kidney, and some other meats. There was so much food, easily could have fed 3 – 4 people. We never got all of our side dishes, only the beans and rice. The beans and rice were hands down the best beans and rice I’ve had in PR. We also had the banana ice cream, it was good. Great selection of wines, mixed drinks, and beer. This is a large restaurant, if you have a big party this is the place. I’m only giving 2 stars for what we ate, but it looked like there are other dishes that could be good. Our meat was cooked perfectly, but there was no flavor in it. Probably won’t go back, as there are many other places I have tried here that were ALOT better. This was just OK.

Amazing steaks, stiff drinks, and world class dessert. We all could not have been more impressed with Che’s. A hidden gem in my opinion.

goddamn their dessert dish is so good! Forgot what it’s called bit its crêpe, ice cream on top AND… caremelized condensed milk inside the freaking crêpe! Diabetics need to bypass this dish! The churrasco was also super good and so was their asparagus soup. This restaurant has been here for 40 years and some of the servers have been here that long as well(a friend took us here and gave us a history). Check it out when you visit PR!

One of my favorite places to eat when I’m home, Che’s is an institution. It’s Argentinian food with a Puerto Rican spin. As my mom says, a restaurant in Puerto Rico can’t survive if they don’t serve rice and beans and el Che’s has some of the best beans on the island that you’ll find in a restaurant. The beans aren’t squishy and overcooked or taken right out of a can. They are good and well seasoned! A typical visit here includes a pitcher of sangria, an order of chorizos parrilleros(grilled chorizos), a few empanadas split in half, and a medio-churrasco(half-skirt steak) with rice and beans. The meat is best medium-rare(since it is a pretty thin cut), but they also have other cuts of meat. At one point they used to bring meats from Argentina but the customer consensus is that it was too gamey… I like game but I also like the Che’s churrasco. Their other sides are pretty great as well-I’ve had fantastic tostones and sweet plantains. Their mashed potatoes have a subtle garlic taste if that’s what you’re into. But seriously, try the rice and beans! One of my favorite things about Che’s is how they have a little display with desserts. There’s the merengon which is a thin dulce de leche-layered pastry with a mountain of light fluffy meringue on top. They have alfajores which is dulce de leche sandwiched between two shortbread-like cookies(actually made with cornstarch)-these are actually quite filling! And my favorite-the crepes suzette or crepes with dulce de leche. They come out rolled up, stamped with the Che’s logo, and with the dulce de leche oozing out. You could get it with ice cream, but I prefer to tango with just the crepes.

Wow this place had delicious food! I’ve never tried such a wide array of delicious choices. We ate here twice. Once the service was top notch. The other time it was mediocre– they were busier and since we were a small table, seemed to forget us for long stretches of time. The prices range from decent to a bit high. Overall though we were satisfied with our experience here. Go ahead and give this place a shot– they had all kinds of foods that we had never heard of and which were really delicious!

This restaurant has a casual look. The staff here is very friendly and accommodating. We go to the restaurant every time we visit San Juan. The service and food has been consistent over the years. We usually go for parrialla and a steak. They don’t have the best meat cuts, but overall the food is pretty good for the price. They offer some good Argentinian wines, do ask staff for advice — some of the waiters are Argentinian.

Very cozy. Prices are moderate. The manager was really friendly and took personal care of our table. Every single dish that came out was delicious. You can tell it’s an older restaurant but the food and service are still amazing. The manager shows that he loves what he does for living. Would definitely go back and recommend it. Tremendo restaurant con comida espectacular. El gerente es bien amigable y hace sentir a uno como en casa.

Service was super super super slow. I mean SLOW. Witnessed some angry customers including our party of 3. It took 45mins to order food and another hour to get it. Then it took another 45 mins to get our bill. All that waiting for expensive crab meat and chicken empandas that tasted the same(should have gone to a street vendor and paid a buck) and shrimp cocktail that looked like the shrimp came from frozen bag, it was dry and chewy. Yuck. Very disappointed.

Good restaurant. It is a bit cramped in terms of sitting but it makes it up with its food. Service is average and it would be nice if the hostesses weren’t standing around talking and rather be caring for the customers; bad impression. Overall, good experience… Return??? yes…

When my wife and I lived in San Juan in ’89 to ’92 Che’s was our favorite restaurant. Today was our first time back since we moved away. Happy to say still a great Argentinian restaurant! Have the Churrasco and finish with the dulce de leche crepes. Short, easy drive from the hotels on Isla Verde.

If there was a no star option I would rather select that. This place is overprice. The quality of food is regular. I ordered some fried plantains and they were greasy and soft. The beans were so-so. You are going to spend around $ 25.00 per person. There are better restaurants in the area. Visited this restaurant in 08⁄2013 and 3 months later we noticed an unauthorized charge in our credit card. We contacted our bank and we find out that someone at the Che’s stole our credit card information. They were buying their own meal at the restaurant. I hope you enjoyed the meals while it lasted! We had to change everything. DONOT PAYTHEMWITHCREDITCARD!!!

What a disappointment. The prices are extremely high and the quality of the food and atmosphere does not match. Bread was served with the meal, which was fine, but that was about it. The attire is c. 1985 resort that has never been updated. The prices average $ 20/plate. And don’t expect any kind of upscale plating. We ordered chorizo for $ 10 to start with and it was ¼ link of sausage cut up with toothpicks in it. Seriously, toothpicks. For $ 18.50 I ordered homemade gnocchi with a butter sauce. It literally looked like 2 cups of gnocchi with melted butter thrown on a plate. No sides, nothing. The gnocchi was ok, if you like cooked dough. My boyfriend did better, which is the reason for two stars instead of one. He ordered the fresh fish for $ 20, which came with a small side of vegetables underneath and a baked potato. The piece of fish was a good size for the money, and tasted decent. That was the best part of the meal. Even the window next to us had a large crack in it. Don’t go here. We’ve had plenty of more Positive experiences for less money.

We were hungry for some grilled food. We stumbled on this place on the way to Condado to eat at another Argentinian grill. The concierge recommended this place due to the distance from the hotel. It was pouring, they have valet and the attendant walked us in with an umbrella Nice… The server was awesome, he recommended the Parrillada and we switch a few items since we are not fans of blood sausage and he suggested we did the pork chop. We received our food and we ordered for two, well this plate is really for 3+ people. The meat was tender and flavorful. The churrasco was amazing. The rice and red beans was as good as my Mom’s. We had a great dinner with lots of leftovers and drinks for less than $ 100.00 including tip. Give this place a try.

I wanted to love it as much as I loved it in my teens when I’d go with daddy for power lunches… And feasted on churrasco and broccoli spears. Food still tastes the same in a very tired Ches’ and servers are still really adorable. But service is SUPERSLOW and the food came out cold-ish. One of the steaks was sold as super tender and it was shoe leather, so we sent it back and asked it be cancelled… CHECKYOURBILLCAREFULLY — they didnt remove it but on a $ 350 bill, we weren’t about to argue over a $ 20 entrée… Food tasted wonderful — the parrillada is still a GREAT value — it says two but it feeds 4 normal carnivores enjoying other things from the menu. Wine list is extensive but ridiculous expensive on some less than average«conference» type wines. Some REAL values but some others are«questionable» — HOWEVER, wine is about preferences and if this is what the patrons drink — SALUD! 7 people, wines, beer, sangria, sodas and juices, one dessert and one salad, and 6 appetizer plates + entrees = $ 350(tax and tip included) so not bad to feed a table with hungry family! I had higher expectations and hopes for Ches, but they accommodated our 7 people party and had an adjacent HUGE party table and in a non acoustic venue, all these loud people still felt at home. Thanks for a good dinner, and for giving us space and food!

We needed to kill time while our room was being readied for us, so we walked around the Ocean Park neighborhood and found this nice dining option. Che’s is advertised as an Argentinian steak house(or Parilla… pronounced«parisia», if you’re in the know). When we walked in, we were greeted by a boisterous and welcoming group of servers. They were very welcoming and our server also helped me walk through some of the cuts they offered. Now it wasn’t as great as some of the Parilla’s I went to in Buenos Aires and Montevideo, but for an Argentinian steak house in San Juan, I give it a thumbs up. I tell ya, Argentinians cooks must be the anti-christ to vegetarians, because I think they’d make any veggie think of conversion!
