Milan Malpensa is such an interesting airport, and I’m saying that to be nice. Two terminals, but you must take a ten minute bus to get between the two terminals. This airport is also a train station, which is convenient for those transferring. There’s a food court area with a Time Café and Burger King that can be entered before going through airport security. Both are pricey. I prefer the Time Café at Teminal One. It’s not the newest airport; it’s not the cleanest airport; it’s not the fastest airport; it’s not the largest airport; it’s not the most convenient airport. So what is it then? Beats me.

«What a sad airport terminal!» is what every foreigner(and local) must think when arriving to the T2. Even the T1 is not that appealing(besides the brand new section for international flights) but the T2 is really the worst. It is only for Easyjet flights so, if you’re flying Easyjet often you’ll probably hate it as much as I do. The thing is that it’s design is horrible — I hate low ceilings, like the ones here -, there are few and ugly shops, bad food options(the most decent place to eat is Burger King, hidden over the security control gates). There are few security control gates, and I’ve never seen more than 3 open at the same time so there will probably be a 20 minute wait before going thorugh security, be patient. Also, when you’ll get there there will be someone checking the hand luggage sizes, be ready to see some fun arguements(people, please, measure your cabin luggage at home or check it in at the counters, don’t block the already slow security lines!). Another patience moment will come when you’ll start queueing at your gate — you’ll experience an Italian queue, good luck! On the positive side I must say that when you claim your luggage on arrival, waiting time is not as long as in T1. Also, if you’re coming from Milan with the shuttle bus, it stops here before going to the T1.

The airport is pretty clean, but very old in design, facilities(think bathrooms with only one stall in the easy jet terminal for example) and the fact that the upper floor of the D gates has 3 outlets for the entire floor is crazy! This airport gets very busy and runs out of seats as well as outlets quickly. Also the seats are only padded on the back-not the bottom. This airport is well connected to central milan but expensive train that is not fast(average 1 hour one way, usually with delays and for 12 euro one way) and no discount for roundtrip. The bus takes much longer on average and is 10 euro one way to central milan or 16 euro for roundtrip. Positive to this airport is the free and unlimited wifi everywhere in the airport. The pizza in the basement area of the airport between the C and D gates is the best, only 4 Euros for a huge slice and quite delicious. I recommend that for sure!

This services all easy-jet planes, flights, people etc. If you are going from and to the airport use the shuttle coach as it’s quicker than the train and far cheaper than a taxi. Terminal two needs a bit of tlc and really a need to do it for the expo too. It’s quite far from the city of Milan but nothing massive. You can get a train shuttle between terminals but you may have a wee wait. Wi-fi is available but the free version is a bit slow and limited time wise.

Bad. I hope it will look much better for the 2015 Expo, but at the moment it just looks sad, ugly, cheap and old. They are doing some restructuring hence there might be some hope, but I believe that this city should have a great and modern airport worthy of it’s name.

Malpensa. What can I say, except it’s really, really, really far from Milan. About 45 – 50 minutes drive in fact, which equates to a 90 € flat fare taxi. Terminal 1 is quite nice. It has restaurants, space, some interesting architecture and is where most of the big airlines fly to. It also has a funky ‘gateway to Milan’ art installation that makes no sense but at least shows they put some effort into the design, and the Sheraton hotel looks pretty nice though I didn’t go inside. That said, if you happen to be waiting there for 6 hours for a delayed flight, because it’s too long to drive to Milan and back, you’ll soon run out of things to do. Sadly the budget airlines, especially easyJet, all fly into Terminal 2, which is more like a shed. There’s not much to add to the description of this shed. It does have a branch of Dixons tax-free once you go through security and a couple of other shops, but that’s about it. It’s almost designed to make you want to leave as quickly as possible.
