Andersen Café — which I learned is named after Hans Christen Andersen — is a bistrot café that opened a few months ago in Florence in the area near Santa Croce church. I went with my sister in law, niece and own toddler this past weekend to enjoy an afternoon event offering tea with sandwiches and muffins. Everything was quite delicious, the place is quite charming and relaxed — I really liked the clusters of sofas and low coffee tables in the back room — while our kids really enjoyed the playroom, which had a LOT of toys, books, paper and markers. It is ideal for anyone who wants to meet out with friends to chat and has kids as they can entertain themselves while you chat. The menu seems to include a little bit of everything for light lunches or dinners but mostly has sandwiches. It also offers smoothies and other drinks, so looking forward to heading back soon to try other items off the menu. Particularly of interest is their baby menu — with many homemade baby food for babies under 18 months old. I met one of the owners, Irene, who has an infant, and learned that the other owner, who is scandinavian in origin which inspires the café, also recently had a baby. It is great to find a place in Florence by mothers with young kids that pays particular attention to offering a place where you know you CAN take your toddler to!

I discovered this gem thanks to an event with mums and kids. This place’s enough roomy both for people in need for a tea break and a few muffins and parents/nanny looking for a fun repair for their children. In fact there’s a small dedicated playground with papers to be colored and toys to play with. In the other hall there are tables and sofas where you can sit and work or study or simply eat something(free wifi is available) choosing from a very long list of teas and infusions, amazing cocktails and a few tasty ideas for your lunch. Everything here is light, like desserts that mainly recommend yogurt. But this place stays on from breakfast ’till happy hour and they do host a series of cultural events you definitely must look up! Stay tuned on their facebook page, they’re very active.
