Lovely Tratorria next to Santa Croce. Not on a busy street, so nice atmosphere. Traditional and unique food options. Large wine menu. My husband had the Filet which was delicious(I’m not a huge red meat fan) and I had an artichoke dish which was amazing. Server was informative about wine selection to go with certain dishes. Would definitely eat here again.

Frendly staff, nice location, great food :) We have been there two years ago and last year too. Today we walked by and noticed that the name has changed, we assume it has been purchased. The first thing we noticed that the lighting was stronger than before.

The most important thing to note is that this restaurant is not around anymore. It has been taken over by the restaurant next door il cantina. But it uses the same menu for the the pizzeria. We ordered a mushroom pasta for 12 Euros and that was decent. The flavors were not outstanding, but it was still good. Probably not worth the price though. We then ordered a ham and mushroom pizza. This was a good size. It is about the size of a medium by American standards. However the crust was a bit burned. We only ordered tap water. When we did so, they wanted to bring a bottle of still water that they were going to charge for, so getting them to give us basic tap water was a bit difficult. They do have a cover charge, as all restaurants in Italy do, but however with that 2 Euro per person cover charge, they give you a tasty glass of white wine. The wait staff is not very attentive, but anyone who does research knows that it is like this anywhere in Italy, so do not be surprised. But one waiter just told me to yell at them when I needed them. They do have an outdoor patio seating which is nice. We sat there and would watch the people walk by. It is RIGHT next to the Basilica. The menu is only in Italian so if you can not read Italian then ordering will be difficult, and the waiters do not speak any English beyond a few words. But pointing always works. The menu would range from about 9 Euro for the cheapest dish and somewhere to 24 for the most expensive. With most things being about 10 to 12 Euro. But overall I would say this place is decent, and you can probably find somewhere better if you want to try. But it is a nice place in a nice location.

Great place… And it has been since the first time I went there in 1998! I was welcomed with a glass of prosecco. :) good start! The grilled vegetables with mozzarella, ossobucco and cheesecake with berry sauce were delicious! It took a while for the food to arrive, but I was enjoying the atmosphere and company… ;) Whenever I’m in Florence I try to stop by Baldovino…

A thick-cut T-bone(Italiano cattle only, naturalmente), charred with either coals or wood and brushed with olive oil before serving. I never heard of Florentine Steak before, but apparently, it’s famous enough to be on the Wikipedia T-bone Steak page.(And no, I didn’t edit page, so I could look cool on Unilocal!) The B&B guy highly recommended Baldovino for it, so when in Firenze, we splurged on the carne. — BISTECCAALLAFLORENTINA — € 40/kg. Typically 1+ kg per steak(including bone weight), which was more than enough for a due. Thick steak, cooked to perfection for medium rare tenderness. The charring from the brick oven was good for flavor without being burnt. I couldn’t taste the olive oil distinctive to alla Florentina, and perhaps it kept the charring from being too dry? Served on a round wooden pan with lemons and fresh rosemary, the pre-sliced steak with the bone looked as impressive as it tasted. — TOMATOBRUSCHETTA — As if the kilo of manzo isn’t enough, we ordered the € 4 «bruschetta,» which was really a thin 14″ pizza with tomatoes but without the cheese or sauce. It was a great large appetizer and surprisingly light. Service was typical Italiano and slightly better. There’s the usual outdoor seating, elevated on a patio, covered by a veranda rather than umbrellas, and on a non-busy street(Via di San Giuseppe). Unfortunately the outside tables were filled, but luckily, our table in the dimly lit back room was romantic and intimate, as we had the room all to ourselves — perfect for a ravenous threesome with the lusty steak. Add in the € 8 ½ litre of house vino rosso to make the meal magico.

Pas mal, bonne qualité mais service un peu lent. Bien situé dans la ville, prix raisonnables.

My husband and I enjoyed dinner here. We ordered a ½ liter of wine, a main salad, two pizzas, and chocolate cake. The wine, salad, and chocolate cake were outstanding. The pizzas were quite large and we could have easily split one. One downside was how greasy the pizzas were — it was quite unappetizing. I stuck with the outer part of my pizza and it worked fine. The second downside was the service was not very attentive for our table, but I believe that is an exception because everyone else appeared to have solid service. We just caught a shift-change around 7:20pm. Definitely go for the dessert!

The bar part of this restaurant is a great place for an Italian breakfast. They make their own pasteries and theirs are excellent. The restaurant is good but what you choose is very important. They do some things well and other are a bust. My wife had lamb ribs breaded and deep fried in oil that was not the freshest so the taste was off and the meat was tough. I can;t recall what I had so there you have it. Reading the reviews I bet some items are very good, we just didn’t order them.

I had by far THEBESTMEAL here when I was in Italy. I cannot stop raving about how delicious my dinner was when I talk about my trip with my friends. Our tour manager told us to come here solely for the best chocolate cake(sold!), so we came here for dinner. I ordered the tagliatelle with a rabbit ragu sauce and a glass of chianti. Oh. My. Goodness. I kid you not, I would be happy to have this meal every day until I die. I’d never had rabbit before, but it was so tender and the sauce was flavored perfectly. The pasta was al dente. Perfection. Seriously. On to what we came here for: the chocolate cake. I posted a picture of what it looks like on Unilocal. The outside of the cake was the perfect light texture, while the inside was slightly softer, not quite lava cake, but so incredibly moist. I have dreams about this cake. I wish they could deliver this by air mail.

Fantastic, best meal in Florence. We came to Baldovino on a recommendation from a friend who travels frequently… he highly recommended this place, so we had to try it out. Aside from us look like mega tourists by trying to go in the wrong door(don’t try and enter from the side street, the main entrance in on the main street!) we had a fantastic experience here. We were promptly seated in the back portion of the restaurant and at first we were a little worried about our waiter being a little rude, but after the initial sit down, he was great the rest of the night. We started with the radish appetizer… my wife didn’t love it but I thought it was delicious with the cheese and balsamic. The pasta dishes, my wife had a pesto pasta which was served with potato as well… this was the first time I think we have ever had pasta and potato together like that, but it was delicious. For myself, I’m a huge tortellini fan and had to try it when I saw they had an asparagus tortellini! And man, it was everything I hoped for. The tortellini was much bigger than any I’ve ever had in the states, they are almost like dumplings they are so big. But they we’re absolutely delicious! We didn’t go with a main course this night(though I wish we would have) but we did have dessert… and it was the highlight of the night. We had seen another couple order their cheesecake and it looked really good, so we went for it. It was the best cheesecake we have ever had, period. It was much lighter than cheesecake you’d normally find in the states, but it was so incredibly good. If we are ever back in Florence, we will absolutely be back here!

Great food and service. We dined there with a couple of friends 3 years ago and then went back this time again and coincidentally it was on the same day we had dined three years ago! The pasta with saffron sauce was what we had both times and it was great. The house wine is also great and the street side seating is nice. Great service. very friendly.

Average at best. 4 of us for dinner. Service was inattentive. Food was OK but nothing special for the price. You’re better off across the street at La Botte, where we had exceptional food and service!
