J2 is a really nice restaurant. The food is fresh especially the fish for the sushi. The people from the restaurant are nice. I like to go here for dinner and recommend to friends.

* Wasabi was weak flavored and not fresh * When I asked about Uni the waitress didn’t know what Uni was(what kind of Sushi place doesn’t know about Uni?) * The sashimi selection is very limited and the fish is not fresh(try smelling the sashimi before eating it, it shouldn’t smell«fishy») * This restaurant is more about a Western sushi, no comparison to authentic Japanese sushi restaurants.

I’ve been to J2 a couple of times now and I absolutely love the place! Even if you aren’t the biggest sushi fan, there’s a lot to love about this restaurant. Also, I don’t think I’ve had a better miso soup anywhere else in Dublin so do give it a shot when you’re here. The bento box is very filling(I went for the one with Vegetarian Tempura) and goes very well with green tea and the amazing views of Liffey on the side. The staff are super friendly and the service is prompt. Easy 5 stars!

This place ticked all the right boxes. Sitting at a window seat beside the river in the sunshine doesn’t get much better than that. The menu itself is perfect, so many options and choices and for such good value. I also really like that they recommend dishes on the menu. i had to go for the spider roll so i could compare it to yamamori, but i would of defo picked something else otherwise. the spider roll was delish and not overpriced. i also got chicken gyozas which were crunchy and yum. Here you get free miso soup whwn you order sushi, something id never order but was tasty. This has potential to be given a rare 5 stars from me, i will be back with freedom to order what i want and i can not wait!

Hats of to j2. I didn’t think it was gonna impress me as much as it did, but my ohhhhh my. I may have a new fav sushi spot in town. I had 8 avocado rolls, 2 wakame gunkan, and vegetable gyozas. The bill worked out as € 12.50, is that not insane!!! Honestly the best value ever. They even have free miso soup on top of all that. I don’t usually like miso but this was defo the best I’ve had. The tofu bitts at the end of the soup were tiny creamy cubes of yumness. The location of j2 isn’t ideal. It’s quite on the outskirts of town, but the view of the Liffey is defo worth it. Great staff, delicious quality sushi and amazing value. Looking forward to returning to J2ASAP :)

A star for the service Another one for the free tea upon check in A third for the location and scenery Zero stars for the food I mean really? This was a horrible experience! How could you even go wrong with rolls, I ordered 2 Tuna rolls, spicy and crispy tuna with avocado, the tuna did not even look like fish, it was a weird mince texture and the crispy one tasted so sweet like caramelised onions and the spicy tasted so bad and looked nothing like tuna! I actually felt embarrassed because we were sitting next to the chef and he kept on looking at all the food left untouched! The smoked salmon Philadelphia was edible, the cola we ordered clearly came from a huge family bottle and was stale, the California roll was just bland and had barely visible prawn pieces! And what’s up with the live lobster tank? You know most costumes do care about the welfare of the meat they’re about to consume… We see the dirty crowded tank and it doesn’t look a bit appetising… I mean this is so disappointing and frustrating, I had such high hopes for this place, with all these amazing reviews I thought I was in for a treat but it was more like a trick… Sad.

I came here for early dinner, when it was still light out. The love that the restaurant is basically a glass box on the liffey, creates a nice mood esp when the sun can shine thru. Really like their sushi combos. You get pretty much everything you like there. As usual, I ordered salmon sashimi, and the Fire Island roll(crabmeat roll topped with spicy tuna, spring onion & masago), and my boyfriend ordered the Spider Sushi bento. I was really impressed with the spider sushi(just perfect balance of crunch, sauce and rice) and thought it was good portions for the price. The sashimi was a dream. It was cut the proper thickness and the was fattyyyy! — just melts in your mouth. For the sushi, the texture and the sauces just went together so well, it was incredible, unlike some places that just make generic sauces that are too creamy/blah. At the end I was stuffed but still wanted more! I will definitely go back again, esp to try the noodles and ramen. I will review again when I do!

From the food to the service and also the great value, J2 is a little gem :) miso soup is free and also on the table they serve little jars of ginger, wasabi and homemade soy sauce. Himself and I ordered waaaay to much but they let us takeaway so now I have my lunch tomoro ;) . Starters was the spider crab tempura that I forgot to take a photo of it was so good we didnt wait one second to dive into. Too good to wait any longer! amazing flavours and crispy tempura. The crab was so soft and the sauce they served with it went really well. I never tried miso it was a bit tastless for me but I wouldnt no good miso as it was my first time to have some :) the salmon main my boyfriend had was ten stars!!! Im going back to order it all to myself the asparagus tempura with it was so good. The bento box for 13euro is great it comes with edameme, miso, gyoza, salad. and you can pick sushi it comes with(i chose spider crab again). Then to share we had tempura spicy tuna rolls. They were good but not fried enough to be tempura. To top it all off we had some rasperry and white chocolate brownie. Again. amazing! Really different to your normal brownie nicest ive had. the matcha tea cheesecake looked so nice too. With two Asahi japanese beers two wash down everything came to € 70 euro exactly. Yay. For portion size, ambience, flavours, great value, service etc. i cant wait to return again and again!

J2 sushi used to have a quay side restaurant, which looks to have moved inside to the CHQ building at IFSC. I never tried the restaurant but heard great things. I recognised the brand walking through the IFSC recently decided to venture in for a healthy lunch. The service was both slow and abrupt and the ordering process was unclear. The food was thrown in front of me in a takeaway paper bag despite the fact we were sitting at a table and had taken cutlery. The prices were high. The redeeming fact was the food was nice: fresh and plentiful, however the overall experience was lacklustre and disappointing. I won’t be back.

Nothing quite makes me as happy than Japanese food. I was away from home, just got off a plane, and needed to find food not too far from the hotel. J2 is situated in the Financial area of Dublin, opposite the Spencer Hotel, and in a kind of cube by the river. It’s tiny, but friendly, and actually really good! I didn’t go for sushi, since I already had some for lunch, but it did really look delicious. Since I have a thing for Udon and chicken, I went for chicken Udon. Decided to start off with some gyoza — and well — gyoza are a side and not a starter. Meaning I got 2 small tiny gyoza — they were really nice, but felt that they should have precised that — would have taken 2 portions :) The Udon was really tasty — nothing exceptional, but just what the doctor order. I did have to restrain myself from devouring some of the deserts, that also looked really nice. So in short: cosy cute japanese restaurant, all the food looked fantastic, I want to go back — but I need to be sent to Dublin 1st. Tip: If you check in on Unilocal, you get a free pot of Green Tea. Win!

The best calamari I have ever tasted in Dublin… or maybe ever! How many times have you had calamari that you nearly choke to death on? Well not in here! Expertly cooked with a fantastic light tempura batter. I also had some tuna sashimi, spicy salmon and avocado and the classic California roll. All lovely and fresh and served by great staff. The only thing that was a little ‘iffy’ was the cheesecake for dessert. The flavours just didn’t mesh together but I can live with that because the star attraction… fish selection was spot on.

I’ve been out of range of my favorite sushi joint in Seattle for just about three months now. Tonight, after moving into our new apartment, I brought up Unilocal to find me a good dinner and sushi popped up on my list. Not just sushi, but sushi described as the best in Dublin, only 10 minutes away. I almost fainted. I mean, we’re on an island here. The fish is pretty great. But sushi is, well, a bit far away for the local palate. I saw that some of my Unilocalers had given it five stars, so I gathered my courage and decided to give it a go. I wanted to take my lady there once she joined me on the emerald isle, if the quality held up to the praise. Long story short, I was amazed. Now the long version. I started with an order of miso soup. Ahhh miso, how I missed you. The soup was delectable. Not too salty, not too much tofu, and served at the perfect sipping temperature. Next on my list was the litmus test of a good sushi joint: salmon and tuna sashimi. If you can’t get these right, you might as well be making fish and chips. My taste buds were delighted. The tuna was so clean, so fresh, not a hint of fish taste remained on my tongue. The salmon was a great cut, fatty but smooth, and perfect sized pieces. After such a wonderful start, I was happy to try the Unagi nigiri. And I was not disappointed. Just the right amount of sauce, perfectly cooked, melted in my mouth. They have a healthy selection of fine sake for my fellow lovers of the rice wine, and the standard Asahi and Kirin beers to wash down your meal. I was so impressed I immediately wrote my review at the table. Needless to say, highly recommended, and I look forward to many a night here.

We were craving for sushi and this was the closest from the place we stayed so we got there only 45 minutes before it closes. I took a sushi roll with fried prawns, and if I remember well asparagus and avocado. I didn’t really enjoyed it, the sushi were too big and a bit tasteless except it was a bit spicy. We took edamame and salmon /avocado /cheese rolls to share, be both thoughts those rolls were a bit too big as well, also, I think the salmon wasn’t raw but smoked which made it a bit disgusting in the end. My boyfriend took a chirashi, which was very good, the fish were very fresh.

I absolutely love this place. Go now, don’t even read further. Ok, so you read further… you rebel. The sushi and sashimi is delicious and the portions are very decent in size. While I was there I had the grilled salmon on top of a wasabi mash. The fish was perfectly cooked — moist insides and crackly skin on the outside. On top of all this is great prices. The main was around € 13 and the sushi came to about € 9 or € 10 for a very hefty amount. «Hefty» is the right word here.

J2 really impressed me. The quality and quantity of food was amazing, the service was spot on, and the venue has views of the river. I ordered the chirashi — a bowl of sushi rice HEAPED with fresh fish, seafood and tamago(cooked sweet egg). The presentation was beautiful, with generously thick slices of fish arranged artfully over seasoned rice. Miso soup was offered free-of-charge as well! For € 13.95, it was a ridiculous value! I also ordered the blooming Japanese green tea… delicious and, again, aesthetically faultless. Served in a glass teapot, the tea«blooms» as it steeps. Now for good food, I’d happily sit in a cardboard box, but J2 has gorgeous, almost 360° views. I was there on a Sunday afternoon for a late lunch, so it was almost empty and felt airy and spacious. I have read other reviews about how it can get so packed at nighttime that you really don’t see much outside, but I had beautiful unobstructed views of the Liffey! I will most DEFINITELY be back!

My first visit back after the fantastic Unilocal event… bad Timmy! It was a rainy evening on our visit and there is something about sitting in a glass box with rain drops trickling down the glass exterior… *dramaaaaa* Food and service was excellent as usual, I think I managed to sway my diehardcore-Yamamori-fan friend of mine who thought J2 was better. The spider sushi bento box was excellent and the prices for wine are surprisingly reasonable. My only complaint was the spicy tuna and avocado maki roll. For the price, I’d expected fresh tuna sashimi with shimichi chilli powder, but what I got appeared to some cheaper offcuts. It tasted OK(not great) but certainly did not look appealing. Oh, and the avocado was unripe… boo! So by all means, visit this lovely Japanese restaurant but choose your sushi wisely!

Looking for excellent Sushi in Dublin? J2 Grill & Sushi is your place. Why? The food here is extremely delicious. Not really the traditional kind of Sushi, more experimental, but awesome nevertheless. Honestly, 8 pieces of a Spider Roll(soft shell crab, crab meat, masago, avocado, € 14.50) will fill you up — you should enjoy every piece. Also fantastic: Volcano Roll(prawn tempura topped with eel, € 14.50) and Inari(sweet fried tofu, € 3). If you like it classic, go for the Deluxe Bento Box(seafood sushi, golden fried gyoza, sushi rice, edamame, miso soup, € 15.50). The chefs here put an extra effort on presentation, that makes every dish a real eye candy. Some advise: Make a booking if you’re thinking of getting there in the evening, this place gets more and more popular. J2 — you’re awesome!
