Any bar in Lan Kwai Fong is a gamble, but having fun at places like Tonic really boils down to timing. Hanging out here on a Tuesday night may showcase how relaxing it is compared to a raunchy Thursday night, where only ladies are given a free cocktail to kick off the night. Friday and Saturday nights can get so crowded that people will inadvertently grope each other just to get to the door. Timing is really everything. The bar scene along Wyndham is already competitive enough as it is, so Tonic might serve as a good spot to score a few drinks before moving on. Happy Hour is the best time to enjoy ½ off all drinks and it’s before the bouncers come rolling in. There is no cover charge either, until later in the night(s) when the place goes from chill to kill(me). Service also falls into the«your mileage may vary» category, as I’ve encountered some super friendly hostesses and solid bartenders vs DBag bouncers and apathetic managers. They will on certain nights employ a decent DJ, and while the space feels clubby at times, it conflicts with the loungey vibe. Drinks like anywhere along Wyndham are pricey. Thank goodness they take credit card, but don’t go overboard with the bottle service either. There are other clubs who handle the scene much better, but then again, Tonic is less of a club and more of a drinking hole for all groups.

COMETOTHISBAR, IFYOUWANTTOBEPRESSUREDTOBUYDRINKSFROMTHEATTENDANTONTHEDANCEFLOORORBEASKEDTOLEAVE. My husband and I came to this bar on Wednesday 25th November. It was our last night in Hong Kong and we wanted to celebrate by participating in the Hong Kong night life. The sales guys at the front inviting us to come in were super nice. The staff member who ruined the experience was us, was this tanned, semi masculine looking butch lady, hawk glaring at us on the dancefloor. It appears her job is to not allow anyone to have fun and enjoy the music, without a drink in their hands/and or ordering directly from her. She was so rude! Apparently ordering from the bar, does not count. I ordered 2 tequila shots upon entering the bar, and had it at the bar. She did not witness this transaction, and pressured us to buy a drink directly from her, or leave. Never in my entire life of clubbing and bar hopping has this ever happened to me. Never coming back until they change their policies. Will happily take my business elsewhere. Tonic is a prime example of how«ladies night» no admission = pay your way via alcohol. I rather pay an entrance fee, and then be asked to leave if I don’t buy liquor from dance floor staff.

Perfect place to start off a night! Drinks are free for girls on Thursdays, and it’s not super hard to get one, like it can be at many bars. They also have shots going around and the bar tenders are so nice! No complaints, love this spot

In my pub crawling days, tonic used to be the first bar that we would hit to start off our Friday nights. Of all the bars, you might wonder why we would choose this place which seems a bit quiet in the earlier hours. That’s exactly why we chose it in the first place. As we all know, ever since the Fong got knocked to the ground there has been a spree of people spread out amongst the smaller places where they are looking for a common place to start off the night. That made it more difficult to get tables and with a bunch of guys we had the added advantage of not having to wear heels so we didn’t mind walking up the stairs a little. Tonic used to offer a wine buffet that entitled you to, at times, all you can eat oysters as well. All this put together with reasonable prices meant that this was a pleasant place to start without breaking the bank and starving by 7. This location is also a great people watching and meeting place– you will always run into people you know either coming here or to the next bars along the road. If you stood outside with a drink chances are you will spend your entire evening spotting and chatting to people you know walking past. This experience meant that you will always leave with a bigger group than you came with. Those were the days… Later hours the bar would change into a mini club which was ok, though the dance floor is tiny and buy drinks was next to impossible given the amount of people in there. Again, by that time most people were quite merry and didn’t mind sitting next to and chatting up strangers anyways. Will still recommend this place even now for old times sakes.
