I’ve been to this place twice by now, and it’s good for a lazy weekend lunch. Service is a hit or miss as others have said. The fish tacos were good, comparable to Cali next. The chorizo quesadilla was excellent, just the right amount of salty umami pork flavor mixed with cheesy goodness that gets your tastebuds going. They were playing dance/pop music both times I went there — it’s a cool place to eat Mexican while chilling to the latest Justin Beiber hits.

While the service was hit or miss — great some days, indifferent on others — the tacos were the best I’ve had in Hong Kong. According to their Facebook page they’re moving location but will still be nearby: 2nd Street between Water and Western. I’ll be eagerly awaiting them to re-open.

I used to live up the hill from here and when it first opened I loved it. Fast forward 2 years later, I decided to give it another shot. Verdict? The staff and mood seem to be a bit«run down» however the food is still in my opinion better than the other Mexican joints in town. Tried the fish taco again and it was good, however not crispy enough. They should also offer limes instead of lemons and corn tortillas. Mid Wilshire Taco– tasted like bulgogi pretty much wrapped with salsa and kimchi. Average with messy presentation. Chicken Quesadilla– yes. This hit the spot. Inspired by the reviews I read, I tried it again and it’s just the perfect quesadilla– just like home. Good amount of cheese to chicken and some salsa. I’m still a fan. Good job, Taco Chaca.

The closest thing to SoCal Mexican food you’ll get in this part of HK. Prices are reasonable considering the cost of guac and cheese here.

When previously working in Sai Wan, my colleagues and I can have stop by three times ago. Just being regular. Apart from tacos and burritos, let us talk about my favourite quesadilla of theirs. As a heavy cheese eater, this is the first choice since chicken gets boring sometimes and budget taco always fails fresh fish. Everyone can do cheese right. Their quesadilla is def a thumbs-up. Chewy, melting, medium taste for cheese and crispy skin. Rather than go for a Corona, go for their house made Ice Tea, or the(raspberry/blackcurrant??) juice. Oh, yes, burn your tongue with a bit Mex spicy twist. This hidden spot is on the slope that lazy bones could not spot. It is getting popular and packed weekdays you do not have a choice but to take away.

I often hear people complain about the poor quality of burritos and tacos in Hong Kong. I’ve traveled through California but I’m not expert on the matter, to me if it tastes good then it gets a thumbs-up. I can understand their point of view because I’ve never really been a fan of burritos or tacos. That was until I was invited to Taco Chaca. At first glance it looks more like a take-away place with very few inside seating and a cramped interior but don’t let that sway your decision. Whenever I’ve visited there was always a seat available, just don’t bring your girlfriend and her extended family. The first time I ordered a chicken burrito with a side of nachos. The nachos were a disappointment, very plain but then again I was on a budget and didn’t want to order the ones with fancy sauces. The burrito, on the other hand, was demolished within minutes. At the time I wished for a bigger stomach so I would be able to eat another… alas it was not to be. Future visits saw me ordering the same burrito while testing out the different sides. Quesadillas one day, a couple tacos the next, and each time with a corona ready to wash the food down. On each occasion I’ve left the establishment full-bellied and smiling. The one thing I haven’t started experimenting with is the range of Tabasco sauces. From your normal, kinda hot Tabasco to I’m going to die why did I put that much on Tabasco and everything in between. I’m a fan of spice and spicy food up to the point when it damages my taste buds. Price and taste stand for Taco Chaca’s cause, it’s size, however, against it. I wouldn’t be too concerned with the place’s square footage because if a big group of us wanted to eat Mexican we can always order take-out… and I don’t have enough friends to be labeled a big group.
