I walk by this place quite a bit, but today we specfically went to have dinner on a Friday night. A great spot and we will be back. The Keith Haring inspired wall paper, $ 40HKD Margarita special on Fridays and Thurs/Fri taco night was the hook that set the tone. The friendly co-owner Ryan and really delicious, reasonably priced food at this cool neighborhood gem will bring us back. We had three varities of their taco special they serve only on Thurs/Fri($ 30HKD each and kind of large and quite culinarily interesting based on our US standards of a soft street taco… fish was our most favorite, sweet potatoe was simply interesting and sweet to try). We shared the the salad that has the kimchi in it(blanking on name of it, but you will know it when you see it on menu). The salad was exceptional and flavorful. They do serve beer and wine and also coffee. We are from Las Vegas and this was our first reach out in craving food of our homeland… or at least the homeland of our Mexican neighbors to the south in many ways. It was good and we will be back… to try the burritos the next time around.

I haven’t has Kim Chee fried rice since I was back home in Hawaii. It’s was amazing. I definitely recommend this place, prices are great and the food, and the quality of food, is excellent. I will be back next time I’m in Hong Kong, maybe even tomorrow.

I paid a visit to Americanos the night after their soft opening, which was Friday October 10th. It seemed like they were still working out a few kinks. I had the chance to try both the Barrio and K-Town burritos($ 75/each) and a drink. They don’t have a liquor license yet but the menu promises beer and wine once they do. Right now, it’s BYO. Burritos are also available, Chipotle-style, as a rice bowl or a salad bowl, but I opted for my old, tortilla-wrapped favorite. Diners can choose from three meats: chicken, pork, or beef, or construct their own combination to be meatless or feature other ingredients. The Barrio with chicken was lacking in flavor. I can make better Mexican at home here in HK even without my native Californian ingredients, so that’s not saying much. The K-Town chicken was pretty delicious though, and I think that was largely due to the pickled shitakes and flash-picked cucumbers inside — make sure to order yours with extra pickles to get maximum flavours. I also had a horchata($ 25 for a small cup) but couldn’t finish it since I’m lactose intolerant. It was pleasantly sugary and cinnamon-filled, as expected. Lactose intolerant peeps: be ware. Their horchata, a sweet rice-based drink, is(oddly) made with sweetened condensed milk, and all of their entrees come with cheese, as do all of the desserts. Be sure to specify no cheese if you are lactose intolerant. Cute ambience and cool location, but the food can be improved.
