I am not a fan of this place but it’s the only okay japanese near my office in PP. I think the service is not up to standards, and food is not up to standard, but I guess the prices are not super ridiculous so it works. I don’t mind going once in a while but I would prefer going elsewhere for japanese. 2.5 for food but service not great, I couldn’t get take out but I could pack the food myself. Like seriously?

Stumbled upon this Japanese restaurant for lunch when my colleagues and I went to check out Great Food Hall. Instead of picking up food from the giant supermarket, we decided to eat at Shiro, a sit down Japanese restaurant right in front of the food hall because there was space, aka no wait. I ordered the spinach salad which comes with sesame sauce(love sesame sauce!) and mixed vegetables. Spinach salad was surprisingly yummy! It was very unique as the spinach are squished together, looking like a cucumber. After they place the dish on the table, the server starts breaking down the sesame seeds open by mashing them together via a thick wood stick. Man, the spinach already has taste to begin with but it taste just thattt much better when you dip it in the sesame sauce — heavenly! This salad is definitely worth coming back for in my books. The mixed vegetables were good, but a bit too salty for me… A must eat with rice. Though for $ 88, I’d say the mixed vegetables of carrots, mushrooms, bean sprouts, and cabbage is definitely on the pricey side. It costs more than vegetarian dishes at veggie restaurants that taste much better and cheaper. I would not get this dish again. Not bad to try for the first time, but not worth the price to get it again when it wasn’t something that’s amazing. Verdict — The items at this Japanese restaurant are on the pricier side. I wouldn’t get the mixed vegetable entrée again but would definitely get the spinach salad again.

Shiro is located inside pacific place in the Great! Supermarket. It is a Japanese sushi bar with the conveyer belt style. I’ve been to the conveyer belt style sushi bars once or twice but I can say that I much preferred sen ryo for selection, price and quality versus Shiro. I’m not a big fan of this one. First of all the whole reason about going to a conveyer belt sushi restaurant is so you can have freshly made sushi when you see something you want. How are you going to see something you want when there’s literally under 8 choices. Nothing is coming out fresh. I’ve repeated the same sushi twice because that’s the only one I want to eat. They do have menu selection but if I wanted that I could have gone somewhere else. I guess I could have ordered a chirashi bowl for $ 88. Might be better than opting from the conveyer belt. Ambiance wise this place is clean and comfortable. Nicely decorated. Attached pic for reference. I ordered picked up two salmon rolls which equals 4 salmon rolls. Two dishes of «Japanese» tomatoes, they tasted pretty local to me. One piece of tuna nigiri it was very lean and not fatty at all. And a dish that had three slices of thin hamachi sashimi. All were mediocre to put it nicely.

I’ve not found many sushi bars in HK where they have the conveyor belt, other than Genki of course. Shiro, which is based in Great supermarket in Pacific Place, is a good middle ground of great quality food, but with the conveyor belt convenience. Shiro does a number of great bento box sets. My favourites are; the black cod bento which comes with prawn tempura and grilled scallops, as well as the usual miso soup and rice, the cost is reasonable at HKD238, and the chopped sashimi bowl, which is only HKD118. The sashimi bowl looks a bit small, but this is more of an issue of a big empty bowl. The portion is very reasonable. The bento boxes are a very good sized meal, but if you are super hungry, there is an a-la-carte menu which has a lot of small bites on it, and of course the sushi conveyor, which has a a few different dishes, all of which cost around HKD25 to HKD45. Conveyor sushi often has a bad reputation of being not as good as fresh out of the kitchen, but the belt sushi is made right in front of you, and never in huge quantities, so it keeps turning. The venue is deceptively small, it has a wall mirror on one side which makes it look really big. As such, it’s not as big as it may appear, so it can get busy. The service is good, the staff are polite and efficient. Timings for the bento boxes and a-la-carte dishes can be a bit slow, so if you are in a hurry, stick to the belt. On my last visit the total meal cost wasn’t cheap, at over HKD600 for two with no alcohol or soft drinks, but the quality and convenience are worth it. However, on that last visit, I was served an incorrect dish(it was the manager who took the order as well!). It may be worth clarifying your order at the time of placing it.
