Dined here twice and both visits did not disappoint. Located in the Hyatt On the Kowloon side of Hong Kong. The service is excellent, nice ambiance and fine food. The menu changes but the seafood and steaks are winners. I had the Sea Bass and it was very good .The menu is really for westerners but does have Asian offerings too. A unexpectedly good wine list. Visit the Chin Chin bar café for live music. One stop for a nice evening.

Decided again to have Hugo’s prime rib with Yorkshire pudding after a week of mostly wonderful Chinese food. The service and food did not disappoint. Wonderful as I wrote elsewhere. I comment now on two other aspects. Hugo’s serve table side(table d’hote). The prime rib is carved from the trolley next to your table and to your liking. They also give you a big Yorkshire pudding, very nice. The salad is tossed from its trolley as well, sparkling fresh. The cutlery is also first rate. For example, the steak knives are French, by Laguiole, famous for the ease of cutting meat. It does make the steak taste better. These are marks of a fine restaurant. The wine is Hugo’s weakness. The wine steward is overly ambitious in his presentations and descriptions. For example, there is a 4th growth classified St. Julian listed by the glass. However, the bottle was not that of the French government classified St. Julian on their wine list. It should not be listed as 4th growth. When asked, the quick reply was: «It is the second vineyard for the château.»(Last time I bought the Spanish special they were promoting and was disappointed.) But this is not acceptable practice in Paris or New York or a number of top Hongkong restaurants. It seriously detracts from a first rate restaurant. Humble suggestion… Invest in several bottles of the correct château. Sell them by the bottle. List these correctly as a second vineyard by the glass. No need to change the price. Wouldn’t cost much $;-). In sum, Hugo’s has excellent service and food. But rely completely on your own knowledge for wine.

Hugo’s is located in the Hyatt Regency TS in Kowloon. It has a very nice ambience, excellent food, excellent service, and prices to match. The food is Western fare. Steaks and other Western entrees dominate the menu. Every item that I tried was good. The service was attentive and good. Why not 5 stars? For the price, I expect a bit more from the food and service. Recommended.
