*** Read: 3.5 stars. I only rounded it up as I was dining with a good company which makes everything instantly better. *** They run 6 — 8pm happy hours so we were here early for a drink to kick-start the night first. That’s also why it looked very busy too(soon people left after 8pm-ish as we were having the dinner). $ 49 isn’t a bad deal, but the sparkling they serve was meh at best. You’d probably like to reserve a table next to the windows looking over the Victoria Harbour like I did. Chance is, you probably can’t see much because of the reflection of the lighting from within the restaurant.(On that note, Aqua does the lighting the best to preserve the view). I’m pretty spoiled by the amazing view of Hong Kong already, but it doesn’t hurt to enjoy the dinner next to it. We had to finish the dinner within 1.5 hours as we had a movie to watch at IFC after. We ordered foie gras and crab cake as starters. As for the main course, we ordered a scallops risotto, and a Le French May special, duck confit with pork belly and sausage. We ordered a carafe of Pinot Noir from Burgundy, too. The wine is okay. I wanted to see the Pinot Nior from Burgundy actually has the color of burgundy red, but it was just the pale-y red an average Pinot Nior would have. Good enough for a Thursday night, I guess. Foie gras was good. Not amazing, but decent. When foie gras’s done right, there’s nothing much to talk about but there’s nothing much to complain either. Crab cake was also good, but I didn’t expect the same black truffle sauce you would put on truffle fries. I could afford better, now it’s a matter of if the restaurant plays up the game a little bit. Otherwise I could have prepared the same dish with the sauce I bought from CitySuper downstairs. Scallops were fresh and they taste good, but the risotto was served separately. Like rice, I get that people have different preference of how the risotto should be made, and I have no problem with serving it separately. Duck confit tastes very good, but too well done to a point it’s a bit dry? Pork belly was good too, but I missed the Japanese yakitori version of pork belly. Again, spoiled kid in HK who has all the great food and great cuisine. Also — we made that clear we had to rush for a movie and asked them to serve the main course as soon as they were ready, but they were only served until 15mins after we finished the starters. Not a full house either, so I wasn’t sure if our message didn’t deliver clearly, or the kitchen was actually busy. Otherwise, pretty attentive staff, nice décor, and could have done better with the food for a restaurant that’s under the name of Mira Group.
