I guess this place does not have an English name, and the Chinese name is pronounced«Faat Gei» or Fat Gay to be simpler… They are a local street eatery in Yuen Long that specialized in Rice Rolls and Congees. I would not call them a restaurant, since the ambience had that street feel to it, and the indoor seating was very limited compared to their outdoor ones. It was very convenience place to get rice rolls or congee anytime from 7 in the morning until midnight. Over the past few years, I ended up here at least once during every trip I made to Hong Kong. Any of their rice rolls are safe choices, some of them were big like a burrito unlike the small ones you get from Dim Sum restaurants, and despite being bigger they still maintain the thin thickness in the rice noodle sheet. Some simpler ones like Dried Shrimp remained at regular size. The food delivered at very efficient pace in their open kitchen, and you can see how everything was cooked to order. They use a special soy sauce just for the rice rolls to make them taste super awesome. Congee was another good dish to get here, and they all boiled to the right softness. The chicken congee seems to be the most popular one here. I tried their Sampan Congee and Beef Congee in the past, both had been quite amazing in softness and meat quality. They all arrived hot and fresh off the stove. The only problem I have with this place is the long wait during the afterhours, they are not super busy during regular dinner hours, but get real crowded after 9 for second dinner. Price was very cheap for what you get, and it was cash only. I would expect much in service being a local street place, and you will get a grassroots authentic Hong Kong server(an impatient auntie demanding your order within minutes you were seated).
