I’m not going to be obtuse enough to think the Chinese food I used to eat in the USA was authentic, but I liked it. Since I moved to Hong Kong, I’ve enjoyed the local food, but I’ve held out hope that I’d stumble upon an American-style Chinese takeout restaurant. I got halfway there today. Dumpling pro seems to play it up to people like me. You walk into the small restaurant and you see lanterns, red walls, and chopsticks on the tables. On the menu there’s Kung Pao Chicken and Szechwan pork. The dumplings were a little disappointing. I got the leek and pork dumplings, but they were definitely more leek than pork. The Kung Pao looked good, but it didn’t taste like what I was expecting. Probably because I just wanted American crap, but it had the authentic Chinese flavors that every other authentic Chinese restaurant I’ve been to features. That’s not a bad thing, but it didn’t meet my ironically lower expectation and desire for American style Chinese.

Loved this place! We ordered the Kung Pao Chicken, Northeast Fried Rice, Mixed Vegetable and Mixed Meat dumplings. Everything was absolutely delicious and I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. The staff were also very friendly.

Dumplings are excellent. Prices are reasonable! Very small place! We were there at 9pm on a Thursday night. It was completely full. Many foreigners eating there as well.

Honestly, not a bad thing to say about dumpling pro apart from the lack of drinks choice. Hot water is available in tall clear jugs on each table but I’ve always wondered why they don’t serve tea… Their dumplings are amazing. Better than most dumpling Houses I’ve been to in Hong Kong. Even the other chinese dishes are really tasty. The décor is quaint. Small varnished wooden benches and tables help make the small dining space feel very cosy and the staff help give it a family run feeling.(I don’t actually know if it is family run or not) I am biased because I’ve been there so often but everyone I’ve brought there has recommended it to a friend and I’ve not heard anything bad from them. My advice: Pork and cabbage has a hint of ginger in the mix which makes it absolutely delicious with the home made chili sauce. Mixed meat is very fresh and not made of the cheaper meats you often find in other chinese restaurants. Dan Dan noodles are delicious. Peanut sauce is probably sweeter and thicker than some variants of this dish I know but altogether satisfying.

Excellent for lunch in wan chai. The steamed dumplings lunch specials for $ 88HK is fantastic. Small, quaint place
