As someone who spent the last 4 years in San Diego, I came to Cali-Mex to get my Mexican food and Chipotle fix. The concept is slightly similar to Chipotle, the only difference is that you place your entire order — burrito/taco/salad/etc + meat + salsa + guac(optional) — at the very beginning, as opposed to the end(in Chipotle). I suppose this is their way of controlling portion size. I ordered the burrito bowl with grilled chicken, topped with salsa verde. While I watched the counter staff prepare my burrito bowl, I noticed a large container of chipotle mayo and asked if they could add it to my bowl. Oh, they would have to charge me extra for a dribble of it. What?! The rice was tasteless and dry, and the grilled chicken didn’t have much flavor to it. I was excited at first, but I ended up leaving the restaurant very disappointed.

I’m from California and this was fantastic Mexican food. I’m living in London and just visiting Hong Kong. Can’t believe I had to go to Hong Kong to get decent Mexican food. I had the 3 cridpy tacos with mince. And my husband had a shrimp burrito. We also shared some nachos. Even the chips were freshly made. I used the online app to order and go pick up– it’s brilliant with every option to add or take away Parts of the dish(no beans. Add extra cheese…) I would recommend this to anyone who wants some California Mexican food’n

In a word — a nice Californian tex mex with some interesting choices. Longer version(for the brave) — I had my eye on this place from the last visit so I thought this would be the perfect layover lunch just before I catch a flight back home. So after passing by one of their places, I saw that as a sign and went in. You can mix and match to prepare your favorite meal out of five options, choose beef, beans, cream and salsa — and there you go. I have myself a burrito with grilled chicken, beans and cream with the spiciest salsa(salsa brava) and an extra guacamole. On the side I had one bottle of guava«jarritos» — naturally flavored soda, yummy! The burrito was huge and made it challenging for me to finish, and it all tasted really fresh. The rice however can be improved. All in all it was all good but the rice alone was not amazing. One more thing I had missing — salt, put some on the tables so we can put some ourselves :) Yummy meal!

For what it is… It’s A-OK: Good, but not Great. Hmmm…I don’t have much to say here. The food doesn’t have a true mexican flavor but the it does it’s job. You will be satisfied and no longer hungry. They have little to no seating space so just take it back to your home or office.

I’m giving this place a 4 star review based on awesome Australian beef burritos. Tasty guacamole and pico de gallo and hot sauce. Chips were so so but burritos are solid. Ate 2 meals there in 6 days.

I’ve really been lucking out on this little stretch of Wellington Street lately! This place has some dope Baja California cuisine. I’d actually call the cuisine«Cali-Mex»(akin to Tex-Mex, and hence the name). Awesome vegetarian menu… and they actually have vegan cheese, vegan sour cream, and vegan«chicken»(in addition to your ordinary meaty/milky fare). The spinach quesadilla is my go-to… in all of its massive glory. I come here when I’m really missing great California-Mexican food; it’s basically a little(ok, huge) bite of home. Bonus: this probably is the ONLY joint in Hong Kong that sells Jarritos(if you don’t know, betta ask somebody…)

This new Tex-Mex chain opened recently in Hong Kong and is helping to improve the western food scene. If you miss American Tex-Mex food, this place will serve up large portions to satisfying you craving with the appropriate amount of regret.
