History
Established in 1980.
The Inferno’s story began with Chef Fern Kirouac, who after moving to Winnipeg in the 1970’s, began his culinary journey, working at various iconic Winnipeg fine-dining establishments.
Chef Fern opened, La Vieille Gare in the 1980’s, and worked alongside his son, Chef Fern Kirouac Jr. to make the restaurant a gastronomic success.
Following his father’s footsteps, in 2003 Chef Fern Jr. opened his own award-winning St-Boniface restaurant, Inferno’s Bistro.
The tradition continues today, as Chef Fern Jr.‘s son, Chris Kirouac, recently opened a second InFerno’s location on Academy Road.
The location and menus may be different, but the innovation and passion for fine cuisine are the same.
Meet the Business Owner
Chris K.
Business Owner
My family has owned and operated restaurants for 30 years. Starting back with my grandfather Chef Fern Sr. who was flown to Winnipeg in the 70s to run the International Inn.
In the 80s my grandfather purchased the Red Lantern and La Vielle Gare restaurants. I grew up running around the restaurants hiding under tablecloths scaring the housekeeper and serving staff.
Opened Inferno’s Bistro December 2003 with my father Fern Jr. It’s been almost ten years and you still can’t get in on the weekend with out a reservation. We also have one of the best patios in Winnipeg.
Opened Inferno’s on Academy April 2012 and we are scheduled to expand our restaurant another 60 seats in August of 2013.
