Café Ce Soir

Wonderfully cozy and intimate, this is a tiny café with an engaging open concept kitchen. The owner was very friendly and obviously passionate about his work. I ordered the steak frites; it was cooked to perfection and very flavourful. The crème bruleé was also excellent.
I’d highly recommend making reservations as seating is very limited.

We went for brunch a couple weekends back. I got a basic breakfast and it was delicious. Greg got eggs Benny and was unimpressed. It wasn’t bad, it’s just he’d had better at the French restaurant on Tache in St.Boniface. Overall it was good.

Not sure how to rate. Everything looked great and prices are affordable. We ended up leaving as the poor owner was working on his own and the place was packed. Will return and try again.

We had three for dinner last night. A small, intimate place that smells wonderful when you walk in. We had steak, scallops and hen. All were cooked perfectly and very flavorful. We also had dessert highlighted by blueberry walnut tart which could not be beat. Wine selection is limited so walk across the street to DeLuca’s and bring your favorite. It truly deserves a five star.

Nice place small menu, the items we ordered where all well presented and tasty The only thing i found putting me off was the international cheese plate– sorry at $ 15 was expecting a range of interesting cheese that I would have to go to a speciality store to get, the ones presented are available at most major stores. I may make it back, but it would be for the deserts and coffee.

The cozy café and great menu brought me in 4 days in a row to just eat or eat and enjoy my early evening with a book in their café. Hands down this is my favorite place in Winnipeg.
Savory meals: Days has passed and I am still craving their Quiche Lorraine, mind you that I ate it twice in a row. It was just that good. The pastry was buttery and flaky. Their tasty and tender roasted duck was very well combined with OJ sauce. While I love duck sometimes I feel that they are a bit to heavy due to their level of not-​so-​lean meat. So, the OJ sauce helps neutralized the heaviness of duck. I really like their French Onion Soup as well. I really like their smoked salmon on baguette also.
Desserts: So far my one pick is Gâteau Rachelle — a whole lot of awesome combination in one cake. Light, refreshing, can hardly keep my fork down with this. I don’t usually like cheesecake. I am not a cheesecake person and I can’t stand Cheesecake Factory so I was surprised on how much I enjoy their pineapple cheesecake. they have a very good earl grey crème brûlée too, and if you’re into chocolate their chocolate crème filling with cherry sauce is excellent… gâteau something. I think Gâteau Basque. I’ve also had their almond croissant — perfect for breakfast, almond crème pear pie — delicious, Banana Cream Pie — very enjoyable…
I guess in short, I tried a lot of their items and I truly enjoy every single item that I have consumed although Gâteau Rachelle, Gâteau whatever that has that chocolate crème and cherry filling, and Quiche Lorraine are my three favorite items. I will come back again and try the rest of the items that I haven’t tried.

It is super to see this neighborhood further revitalized by small eateries and shops such as Johnnies Sticky Buns, De Luca’s wine store, and now, Café ce Soir.
Food was well conceived, excellently presented, and tasted marvelous. The french onion soup was outstanding. Service is friendly, warm and informal, although the server could have taken care to understand the menu items a bit better.
The room is simply furnished; a bit more plastic than earthy, so the staff might want to turn the lights a bit lower at night. That way the guests can better imagine they are in Rive Droite, rather than Portage Avenue.
Winelist, which is fittingly supplied by De Luca’s, is ample in selection and reasonable in price.

I’m very happy to have found this French inspired pastry shop & café! This place recently opened up on Portage Avenue, on the north side across the street from DeLuca’s and just one shop over from Jonnies Sticky Buns (just look for the Shopper Drug Mart/​LC on Portage).
This place serves up a very small menu with 3 appetizer items, 2 soups, 3 salads ($ 8-​$ 12) and 3 sandwiches ($ 9-​$ 12). And then there’s a good number of pastries, all of which are made by a French trained pastry chef along with his small team.
The small café has been recently renovated and provides a really relaxed vibe. The place probably seats maybe 20 people — best for couples or just a small group of friends to hang out and enjoy some light bites and dessert. You get a good view of the open kitchen as it extends lengthwise into the back of the café.
This place is great for lunch as I really enjoyed the «Beouf» ($ 12) — corned beef, old cheddar cheese, lettuce, sauté red onions served open face on Brioche. The sandwich was good, not heavy at all. The sandwich was well balanced and felt like a more «sophisticated» corned beef sandwich with some French flair. The dish also came with a delicious mixed green salad that was perfectly dressed. My co-​worker ordered the strawberry cheesecake — which looked delicious so I had to steal a bite! I would definitely come back for some more cheesecake as this one was creamy and luxurious without the overly dense texture. Cheesecake was lovely and very addictive and the strawberries had the perfect glaze on them without being overly sweet.
Service was very warm and friendly. I can’t wait to try some of their other desserts they were displaying like crème brûlée, tart tropezienne and Death by Chocolate cake! Desserts are sold by the slice for ~$ 6 for the cheesecake so very fair pricing for such a item. This place also caters too so you can order whole cakes.
Great place! I hope they do well in that area. It’s about time the city had another alternative place to have desserts at other than Baked Expectations & Dessert Sinsations; this place offers up a different vibe, one that is more calm and laid back. Great for a date night or to catch up with a good friend and gossip over some yummy eats.
