Friendly, quality rolls. Excellent fish, meaty cuts. On the higher price end but justified. I highly recommend this place for your sushi caver.

Service is decent but as for food quality and pricing… Well, that’s questionable. I got the Canada roll. I can recall too clearly on what it contained but there was bacon. Portions are small. Especially for what you pay for. It had a sort of smokey taste with VERY light crunch here and there by the bacon pieces. Overall, a decent roll but I’ve had better. Its not awful by any means but I’d probably avoid it since I know there’s better sushi joints in with in that area as well as ones I have yet to try.

A pretty amazing sushi restaurant which serves good sushi at very reasonable prices. They also have a large selection of rolls, including local varieties like the Vancouver and Maple, plus a number of combo sushi dishes. All of the rolls we ordered(tuna, salmon, California, Maple and Vancouver) were eight piece rolls. I had the $ 9 combo of tuna, salmon and California and it was a meal. It all seemed fresh(little gets past my nose) with good tasting sushi rice and nori. One oddity, we ordered take out but the person we talked to didn’t understand much English and had to get someone else to actually take our order. In any respect, it’s a pretty good, pretty cheap sushi restaurant in an area known for Asian food.

Definitely not fabulous, but it’s nearby, it’s quiet, and the staff is friendly. I go occasionally when it’s between 9−10PM, as it’s a surprisingly decent place to just sit, eat some sushi, and read. Food quality is okay. I’m not a fan of several things — udons, teriyaki(fill in the blank), unagi, and some more. But there are a few decent items, and it’s pretty consistent across visits. So in sum, while not great, it’s decent enough that I return now and again when I want something close, quiet and easy. I wouldn’t make a long trek for it, though.

Made a phone order, asked for about 10 rolls. Was told it will be ready in «30−35 min». Came after 40 min, saw an empty restaurant(we are talking noon, weekend-all the other places are packed full), and my order wasn’t ready yet… Had to wait additional 20 min until they finished. Now i repeat — the place was empty, no diners at all, and to wait for an hour, for not so good rolls, isn’t worth it. Regarding the food quality — the rice was very very dry, like it was prepared really long time ago, and the closing of the rolls was terrible — they kept falling apart. The fish was OK. I always order from kadoya on Davie, and they are awesome — the best rolls in zero time. Unfortunately they were closed for kitchen renovations that day. Will never go back to the Denman location again.

Had a sushi craving and Unilocal lead me here. Usually Unilocal is good to me and does not disappoint in terms of ratings. This place must be an anomaly. Had the Canadian roll: it has bacon so why not try. It was ok but can’t nothing special. Vancouver roll: love Unagi and this was a pretty good roll. Small-ish pieces tho. Firecracker roll: not sure what was in it, but it was covered in different hot sauces. Spicy but no flavour. Seeing as Vancouver has no shortage of sushi places next time I’ll wander to the next block to see what’s there.

Must be new owners because quality and service are really bad in our many visits in the past year or so. I really gave them many chances because i used to love this place, but I am sorry to say, no more Kadoya for us!

Great food, nice combination. I have almost tried every roll, and each was very good, and very versatile flavors. Always very good and fresh quality. Friendly service.

Nice view. Horrible décor stuffed with supplies strewn all over the place. Servers happy to get you in and out the door talking very loudly in Mandarin. No check up on the food. A bit overprice for what it is. Some of the rolls are reasonably good though. The last two sushi restaurants in this spot were far more authentic. Oh Black Tuna Restaurant in a previous itineration, how I miss you.

**** WARNING: tourist trap **** As soon as I saw there were rolls with butter, and cooked chicken inside them and that you could cheese to any roll — I should have walked away. The«chefs choice menu» looks like it was designed by a fat, greasy American man that loves deep fried food. It’s always bad to see no Japanese nationals eating at a sushi place. We were hungry, it was a block away from our hotel; most reviews on Unilocal were good. I now don’t understand how those people had a good experience if they enjoy real, quality sushi. For being right on the bay, they somehow only have imitation crab. Which they added a ton of mayo to and basically that’s all the California rolls taste like. We got 4 sushi rolls: 1 avocado, 1 tuna, 1 California and 1 one of the two items on the fancier rolls menu that wasn’t deep fried, the Volcano roll. The avocado and California rolls were horrific. Stale sesame seeds on top added a terrible flavor and chewiness that overpowered all other flavors. I like sesame seeds in a roll but these were very stale. I Already mentioned the terrible imitation crab salad of the California roll. Not only were the quality of ingredients mostly bad but the rolls themselves were the most poorly constructed I’ve ever seen. I could and have constructed better rolls than that at home. They used too much rice and didn’t seal the seaweed nori properly so the whole thing just unravels as soon as you pick it up — this happened to all the 4 rolls we got. I ended up taking the fish out and eating it as sashimi. The other two rolls were pretty good, the fish used inside was good quality — the tuna rolls were Hamachi rather than Maguro which I appreciate because in love hamachi. Must be hard to get bad quality seafood in a port city though. Only issue was that for the tuna roll the sushi chef didn’t cut it properly with the grain of the fish so there were stringy pieces and the tail connector ligament end were present in the rolls — which all decent sushi chefs would never serve to their customers. Not only was the food mediocre at best but the service was terrible. We were seated and before they even brought us water our waiter was demanding us to order. Can I look at the menu first maybe? Which I told him and he slammed the menu down(probably unintentionally — we were one of like 4 seated tables, they were not busy in the slightest). The menus had clearly not been cleaned in some considerable amount of time because they were sticky on all pages and pretty gross feeling, not a good way to start out an experience at a restaurant. I do not recommend this place to anyone. There are many good seafood and sushi places in Vancouver — this is not one of them. 4 rolls for $ 20 is not worth it.

Kadoya was fantastic. I was meeting a friend and was a little worried about going to a new sushi place when my heart belongs to sushi mura but it didn’t disappoint! The waiter was friendly and we had everything we wanted. The price was right too, and there was cheap beer! The view was great. The only downside was how cold it was because the patio door was open so that they could serve guests outside, and it took a while for the waiter(the only one, poor guy) to take our order. I would definitely return!

Kadoya is perfectly located at English Bay and the 2nd floor dining room offers excellent views of the water. The menu and prices seemed typical to me, but I’m not a sushi expert. Everybody in our party enjoyed their food and the servers were very friendly and accommodating to our group which included toddlers, kids and adults. They are worth a visit next anytime you are spending the day near English Bay because they’re right off the beach and a good value(not a tourist trap), and the tasty food and generous portions make them a 5-star dinner spot.

If you’re in the mood for a patio, with a solid view of english bay, but want more than chicken wings. then this is the place to visit I’m a fan of the Flamingo, Kadoya, and Volcano roll They serve a variety of japanese beers, including Kirin And, they also have Takoyaki. which is just perfect with beer Service is attentive, and friendly And, if you’re in the mood for bibimbap(korean style hot stone rice bowl), well that have that, too. Recommended.especially for the patio

Dec 19⁄12: I have just had the most frustrating restaurant experience yet. Ordering over the phone for pickup, I slowly and clearly asked for two separate orders as I had offered to go retrieve food for two people in my office from this restaurant. The first chicken udon. The second chicken udon and an order of volcano rolls. When I arrived the non-English femalr cashier presented me with a single bill. I clearly again asked for a separate order of chicken udon. She smiled and after much confusion ran to the back to add the order. When she returned I put the one co-workers $ 20 bill on the slip in which she wrote the single udon soup. She then took the twenty and used it towards the other order(udon and rolls). I didn’t realize so I stated I please would like a receipt. The receipt clarified she charged the wrong order to the cash. Sigh. She was so confused I asked for an English speaker as she obviously wasn’t understanding :( A person in the back came up and reversed the payment and fixed everything. I love all foods and don’t consider myself prejudice BUT if you don’t speak everyday English please done A) take phone orders and B) not ask for clarification if its unclear. :( Am feeling like a big meanie and half of my lunch was wasted. :( But of course the food there is the tastiest although their other location(davie) is the best.

I came here to hang out with some friends, and they suggested this location as opposed to the Davie one. Apparently this one doesn’t get crowded at the regular hours. I totally understood what they meant, we showed up at 7pm, and there was just us and one other table. But by the time we were paying the bill, the place was busy as heck and it got harder to flag someone down. This place is great. When it’s quiet, the service is fantastic. A friend who comes here often talked to a server and said he really liked a specific roll, but the last time he came it wasn’t very good. The server assured him that they would make it perfectly this time around, and the sushi chef, overhearing their conversation, shouted that he would make sure it came out just right! Friend was so impressed with his roll, it was awesome! We also split the tuna carpaccio, which was surprisingly huuuuge and comes with greens, so it was perfect for sharing. Everyone ordered random stuff, so we had a good variety at our table. No one rushed us out, servers kept our water glasses full, and, as usual, their rolls were fantastic. I love Kadoya specialty rolls. They’re big, they’re unique, and they’re well-priced. If you get a window-spot, you get a decent view of Denman and a little bit of the water as well!

Nice to see this place expanding. There used to be just the one location on Davie, but now this one on Denman has been around a while as well. The sushi is about the same quality and price as what you would find in most typical Vancouver sushi restaurants. The thing that puts this one a star above the rest is its specialty rolls menu — extra creative, 8-piece maki rolls, not so large that you have to take multiple bites(a sushi pet peeve of mine), and all reasonably priced at around $ 8 or $ 9. I don’t remember the names of all the ones we had, but one had chicken teriyaki in it and pieces of sausage on top; another had strips of bacon in it and was topped with bacon bits(these are the ones I ordered. My friends were lame and got more traditional specialty rolls with chopped scallop or spicy tuna or something like that). In all, we got 3 specialty rolls, two sashimi plates, and some gyoza. We ate like kings for $ 20 each, incl tax and tip. I could go back again for sure, there are still more rolls on the specialty menu I haven’t yet tried.

Kadoya for Dinner. The setting especially during night had a mix of Japanese with what I think of as Arcade Lighting, maybe Christmas Lighting whatever it was made it somewhat different from what I’m use to although not necessarily a bad thing. #147. Assorted Sushi($ 10.95) — There’s no doubting the HEALTHY portion size(+0.5 Star) as even when packing 25% of the Meal home, it took up most of the Take-out Box. Once again I’m not a Fan of the Sushi Rice so I compare directly to Sushi Mart which has similar affect. #47. Salmon Teriyaki($ 9.50) — I didn’t taste this item but it was served on a cast-iron plate which instantly reminds me of HK café Steak Meals rather than Japanese, whatever. The portion looked reasonable as well although the only thing I can compare to is really the Fastfood Teriyaki places.
