Beach Bay Cafe and Patio

IF I COULD GIVE THIS PLACE 0 STARS, I WOULD.
I’ve never posted on Unilocal before but this was the WORST dinner service I have ever experienced in my life.
The restaurant looks nice and I was really looking forward to a positive experience and coming back in the summer to sit on their patio. Unfortunately, that will not be happening. THE FOOD & SERVICE WAS AN ABSOLUTE MESS!
We were a party of 4 and had a reservation for 7:45. We didn’t get our appetizers until 9pm. The main courses we had were the same size as our appetizers and only took us a few minutes to finish as the portions were so small and we were starving by that time. Not really sure why they are over-​pricing such mediocre food, but YOUR CUSTOMERS ARE NOT STUPID.
As if we needed more of a reason to never return, this happens.
We get the bill, we noticed that they had charged us $ 10 for fries. Our waitress had told us that the fries were ON THE HOUSE (i thought she was being nice for making us wait over an hour before we got any food) but NOPE. I explained to her that if I had known she was gonna charge us $ 10 for FRIES, I would’ve never let her put them down! She proceeds to cut me off mid-​sentence and calls her manager over, who, to my surprise, was EVEN MORE RUDE than the waitress. The owner smirked at me as though I was some imbecile for getting fries and said that «I’ll know for next time». Excuse me?! I sure will know for next time and I sure as fuck won’t be going back to that shit show.
NEVER HAVE I BEEN TO A RESTAURANT WHERE THEY GIVE YOU SOMETHING «ON THE HOUSE», THEN CHARGE YOU FOR IT, AND WHEN QUESTIONED, HAVE THEIR OWNER LAUGH IN YOUR FACE.
IF YOU WANT TO WAIT FOR HOURS FOR OVER-​PRICED MEDIOCRE SMALL PORTIONS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE SHITTIEST SERVICE IN VANCOUVER, THEN THIS PLACE IS FOR YOU. IF NOT, ANY KEG OR CACTUS WOULD BE SUPERIOR TO THIS PLACE — FOOD & SERVICE!

This review is for the restaurant during Dine Out Vancouver. Dine Out started as a way for locals to try restaurants at a discount and for restaurants to drive business during traditionally slower periods. Now it seems that restaurants, like outlet mall stores that sell lower quality goods, are really just creating lower value menus and banging out hundreds of covers in 1.5 hour seating increments. For the menu, the salad starter was good, fresh but very simple. Mains were a choice of cod, risotto or duck confit. My partner had the cod which was cooked well but was about a 4 oz. portion and came with 2 mussels and 3 clams with potato in a broth. I had the duck confit which was just a small leg/​thigh with about ¹⁄₃ cup of lentils. I buy duck legs from Oyama so I know these are about $ 6 each, cheaper for a restaurant to buy I am sure. The taste was fine but no vegetable and the entire «entrée» was about 6 bites — both mains were really just an appetizer size. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding which was simply a small piece of cake with about 2 tablespoons of caramel on top — no cream or garnish. If this menu was representative of the regular menu, which I doubt it is based on the other reviews here, then this place would not last. I did go to another restaurant during Dine Out and the items served were regular menu items, regular sized and the value was good. It is a shame that the original spirit of Dine Out has been co-​opted by some restaurants who are just putting out a $ 30 menu that isn’t even worth $ 30 and benefiting from the marketing and goodwill of Dine Out.

Well, hello there… you had me at «Endless Mimosas» I would go here for that alone but as an extra bonus, the food and service are both amazing too! I can’t think of a single thing to complain about! Didn’t even have to ask for mimosas, they were just brought to the table!

We went for the dine out special, which is a three course dinner for $ 30. Most of the dine out selections are also on the regular menu.
We were particularly interested in this restaurant as the chef was formerly the chef and the now closed Big Trouble, one of our favourites. We are happy to say that the food at Beach Bay Café easily matches Big Trouble.
The room is very nice with a great view of English Bay. The service was attentive and friendly.
We had the fish soup and salad with shaved veggies to start, both were excellent.
For entrees we had the confit duck and the ling cod. Again, both dishes were excellent. The wine pairings were very well chosen.
We aren’t big dessert eaters but the desserts we chose were wonderful — extremely flavourful but not too sweet. We had the cheesecake and the coconut sorbet.
Highly recommended, we plan to return soon.

great location. the service is very friendly. I went here and was very quiet. I was shocked. people need to go here and try this little gem.

The awkward manager was decent enough to take the runny egg white Benedict with rotting box salad mix and goopy mayonnaise sauce off the bill. You would think if the only brunch item on your menu is a $ 16 poached egg dish, the staff would know how to poach eggs… unfortunately, the mostly orange juice mimosa didn’t help the mood.

Came by this gem randomly with my fiancée on Saturday night. Oh my, we were sooooooooo happy we did!
I love the feel and look of this all white gorgeous place! I love how the owner greeted us right away at the door and we walked in with no reservations and got seated right away. The service was ⁵⁄₅. AMAZING service. The appetizers were AMAZING so unique and delicious! Dinner was good the sides which we ordered mushroom, broccoli and a side of potatoes with their house made mayo sauce was DELICIOUS.
I am just so happy a new place that I finally enjoy has opened in the beautiful west end!
I heard their brunch is delicious will def be checking that out!
TIP: if you decide to go for brunch here on Sunday’s make sure you make reservations in advance !

Excellent service, splendid food, inexpensive, everything is good including cutlery glasses cups dishes renovation.

The service at this place is second to none and the food is wonderful. I live in the West End and had heard good things about this place from my friends who live locally so my boyfriend and I dropped in for dinner. It wasn’t very busy but it still had a nice welcoming atmosphere.
We sat at the bar and had a cocktail before dinner and chatted to the bar manager, Adrian, he was very friendly and very informative about his drinks and ingredients. We had a cocktail each which were both great!
We then moved to our table by the window and had a lovely view of the sunset, I don’t remember our servers name but she was very friendly and gave us down great advice when ordering our food. In the end I had the cod and my boyfriend had a steak of some kind, both were delicious (I sneaked a few bites of his). We finished the meal with a Gin and Tonic dessert, it was a little savoury for my liking but my boyfriend loved it and it really did taste like G&T. On the whole a really lovely experience!

I was sad when Rain city grill shut its doors but that feeling is gone now as I feel like Vancouver has just added another great brunch spot to its long list of places to catch up with friends over brunch.
The décor is all white which I have to say goes with the ambience of the neighbourhood, being close to the beach with amazing views of the bay.
Our server was really friendly and the service was great and to the point. We started off with the pomegranate lime fresh juice… which was more on the sour side.
Then we shared the greens, which is a large salad of greens and beignets accompanied with a salted caramel sauce; just delicious.
For my main I ordered the eggs benny with grilled kale on a focaccia bread, which also had a side of salad… I would have to say the sauce was just amazing.
Overall, I’ll be back here for sure to try more of their small but delicious menu.

Very good food and service.
I’ve tried the dinner as well as brunch and both times were sublime.
And I highly recommend the desert.
Their only shortcoming is the coffee. We ordered a couple americanos and essentially got two regular, drip coffees.
If there was one thing Beach Bay could do to improve, it would be to either get a professional barrista or train whomever pulls the coffee.
Paying $ 3.50 for what looks and tastes like a drip is not reasonable. Also to serve it in a ceramic cup as opposed to the glass ware.

Beach Bay Café was a wonderful experience! The food has a delicious balance of flavour, texture and beauty. The wine list is well thought out and the cocktail menu is original. The service has been excellent every visit. My recommendations are to try the beef carpaccio, duck appy, summer vegetable salad (oyster dressing is so gooood!) Sockeye Salmon, Black Cod and the Striploin. I am not normally a dessert person but HOLY they are amazing here! Lime tequila semifreddo the flavour combination is unique and so delicious. Great addition to the West End that was much needed. It’s the perfect place for a patio sunset dinner. Highly recommend!

Amazing… the entres… albacore tuna and the pork ribs. awesome…the mains. Salmon and pork… awesome…wine was very good. service was very good… altogether awesome… great patio and a view… will go back for sure… prices are medium for quality of food and service… not cheap but not really expensive… good stuff

Great spot had been there as the raincity grill. Starters albacore tuna #delish and the dried pork ribs… Incredible! dry they were not, the best dried pork ribs ever fell off the bone… Small portion but again it’s just a snack in the menu… Went with the pork chop entrée … First thought oh no it looked dry. Ummm never judge a book by its cover! It turned out to be the best pork chop I’ve had in a restaurant and the berry compote well geezzz I wanted to lick the plate! Not expensive but over 150 for 2. With drinks highly recommend

Great location, amazing view and beautiful décor! The restaurant looks really nice, much better than the previously outdated raincity grill that used to be there. However the food was a bit of a letdown especially for the price of each dish. The portions were also very small. I think it would have been ok if the food had been amazing but it didn’t have much taste to it, it was pretty plain. Not bad but also not something I would come back for.

I was looking forward to the restaurant opening where the Raincitygrill grill had operated for so many years. The times I have passed by it looked quite empty I decided to support this new neighbourhood venture. I arrived without a reservation with my girlfriend and asked if a table was available on the deck I was told yes. I explained that I had a certified service dog with me which my girlfriend was holding. I was refused entry, I explained that it was unlawful to deny me entry with this type of animal, the host told me that if was their policy, and was quite rude about, we left because and went to the Sylvia where they asked me if the dog had papers o showed it to them and rescued what could have been a lousy night into s great one.

Brand new restaurant that has taken over Raincity Grill. Opened two weeks prior. Awesome location a block from the beach with spectacular views of the water and beach. White, bright furniture and walls make the restaurant looks airy, spacious, and inviting. Small, tight, and clean washrooms.
We had the lightly seared albacore tuna with leeks and kale. Tuna could use better seasoning as I only tasted salt. Kale was done quite well as it was soft and not chewy. Leeks were pickled and was probably my favourite part of the dish. Radish needed some seasoning as well. Flavours were cohesive but not complex.
We also had the barley stew which came out looking more like a barley risotto than a traditional stew. There wasn’t a lot of soup at all. It was full of flavour surprisingly and the feta cheese generously sprinkled all over made it a creamier dish required for a vegetarian dish.
All in all, I found the portions a little dainty for the price. Flavours could also be enhanced but that’s my personal opinion! Go for the location and view!
