Hammam Spa

I could get used to this kind of luxury.
The spa was very nice, they have a nice spot for you to go read magazine and drink tea or water and have fruit. Gorgeous. The steam baths are crazy cool, too, though if you go at a peak time like after work, they get pretty crowded.
The massage was solid, though not as strong as I would have liked.
I wish I could afford coming here more often.

The spa is located in a basement. The change rooms are very small. The towels were dirty. Staff wear «Call of Duty» video game t-​shirts instead of a proper uniform. No food for sale. Turkish delights only given to persons who do Turkish bath. Steam room is small, and the techno lights are not relaxing. No designated parking. No Lounge chairs. RMT was racist against white people saying white people don’t have good restaurants and only Asian food is good.
Never… coming… back.

The service at the desk here was horrible and rude. Simple thing like paying for a friend massage was complicated! Nothing to say about the therapist but service at the front should be improved.

The steam room is good but overpriced. If it was half the price, Id use it way more often.
The massage was good but overpriced and you could hear people walking around and talking while being massaged. I’ve had better RMT for 50 $ less than what I paid here for 1 hour.
I live nearly across the street from it and I am not that sold on this place, mainly because of their prices.

I had a wonderful time at this place. I booked a 30 min massage for myself and my friend since I lost a bet in a game of scrabble. We came about an hour early as traffic was light on Sunday and the reception kindly greeted us, they even offered complimentary use of the Hammam steam room even though it was not included in our services. Inside the spa we were given a tour of the waiting area where you get fruits, cranberries, walnuts, cranberry juice and water. A selection of lifestyle magazines are also available. The change room is stocked with amenities like hair dryer, hair spray, gel, towels, flip flops, the digital locker inside contains a robe and a wrap for each guest. Overall the showers and change-​room is very clean. Afterward my friend and I went to the steam room which is across from the Turkish baths. The steam room is hot and steamy, and the ice cold towels made it super soothing and relaxing. Interestingly we had the whole steam room to ourselves which was really neat. The massage was awesome too, my masseuse was on point throughout the whole massage. By the end of the massage it felt more like 45 minutes have gone by instead of 30 minutes. Overall I had a fantastic experience and would look into the Hammam Turkish bath experience.

I’ve been to Hammam Spa 3 times now, all of which have been during promotions (they have new ones every month) and for facials. I have a hard time justifying paying the full premium here vs. a joint like Pure + Simple, as well as not just paying an extra $ 20 or so bucks to go to a nicer spa in the neighbourhood (e.g. at the Ritz or Shangri La).
Hammam is pleasant. It’s a nice little retreat at the northwest corner of King and Portland, with little being the operative word. The amenities are limited to a tea room and their steam room, or «hammam». All amenities are available to men and women. You are provided a wrap, a robe and flip flops in the locker room, to walk around in. I would recommend wearing a bathing suit underneath if you want to use the steam room, as the alternative is spending the rest of your time there in a damp wrap.
The tea room can comfortably seat perhaps 10 people, before it starts to feel cramped. There are apples /​dried cranberries /​almonds to snack on, and water, juice and tea, alongside a selection of predominantly lifestyle magazines. The star attraction, the hammam, is of a similar scale and is included in your stay if you spend over $ 100. Otherwise, I believe the charge is closer to $ 50 for entrance, which is not justified in my humble opinion. 2 out of the 3 times I was here, the face towels in the ice bowl outside the steam room were completely depleted (literally was a bowl of ice with a sign saying «enjoy»). Sometimes there are big towels available for you to lie on, depending on your luck. The hammam is eucalyptus scented and quite hot, but not very relaxing given the side conversations which always seem to be happening in there. It’s no fault of the spa, but it’s hard to zen out when you can hear the couple beside you talking about the coworker they hate.
There are no clocks anywhere (which can be stressful for type As…). Your attendant will come find you when it’s time for your appointment. The treatment rooms are nice, and the facials I had were fine. I prefer the dermalogica facial over the skincetuicals (which was more mask-​oriented). To be honest, I’ve received better «extras» (e.g. the hand /​foot /​shoulder massage) at cheaper places like Pure + Simple. I am 80% sure that during one of my treatments, when a mask was left on, I received a brisk scalp massage and then could hear the cosmetologist texting.. . I digress. What I do like about Hammam, is that they have never pushed product on me (contrary to some other reviews I have read).
Bottom line: a little bit more «spa like» than your standard no-​frills joint, but not even close to the range and scale of amenities available if you pay a little extra (or even a little less at the Elmwood Spa, which offers a hot tub and a pool). 4 stars, because there is nothing offensive about the experience to deserve lower.

Came here with my bff for there Turkish bath option and it was lovely! Very relaxing and soothing. I like how before your appt you have many options like enjoying tea or going for a steam. And the women who work there are very lovely and friendly. I felt so mellowed out and in another world after the session I didn’t feel like I was dt Toronto. Such a great way to unwind and relax.

SUCH a beautiful way to spend a day. My BFF and I came here for the Turkish Bath. Right away, we were given a tour of the place — the tea lounge, steam room, and change rooms. We were provided with towels, robes, slippers, and various cosmetic supplies (only wish they also had make-​up remover as my mascara was running after steaming).
We steamed for a bit. I felt SO relaxed and detoxed after my night of heavy drinking. Only thing is, you have to whisper while steaming because you can’t disturb the other patrons — which was a bit of a challenge for two giggly girls. Our masseuses escorted us from the steam room to the Turkish Bath (basically a marble slab that you lay on). They scrubbed and exfoliated our bodies — essentially like a bodyscrub but Turkish-​style. I felt like an ancient Roman senator or fantasy novel Queen being bathed by her minions — never a bad thing, really. Afterwards, we used the change rooms to shower and get ready. They have these big powerful rainfall style showers that make you never wanna stop bathing.
We loved our experience mainly because it was so different from the usual massage, facial, or bodyscrubs that we go for. I truly felt like I was transported to a different country. But I doubt I would make Hammam my regular spa as it’s pretty expensive and the main draw of the experience (for us at least) was the novelty of the services. I may come here once in a while or with different people but probably not regularly.

The steam room is so peaceful. The size alone is wonderful not to mention how relaxed you feel after. The authentic Turkish feel is refreshing after so many other spas look the same. They did a great job renovating and its well worth a visit to unwind. Nice and close to the Thompson hotel, so if you’re in town its an easy visit to the spa.

Just like most people seem to say here, the rmt massage is actually decent — the professionals know what they’re doing (my deep tissue involved trigger point and passive muscle activation). But! My lady was not able to get into my tight neck/​shoulder muscles. I own a massage clinic and my rmt is wayyyy better at getting into my neck. There left something to be desired. With the prices they charged (45mins massage $ 110), I expected a sensational steam experience which they advertise as their main selling feature. I did not particularly enjoy it with water droplets intermittently dripping from the ceiling and flashing colouful lights that just made it seem so tacky. It was also coed, which could be uncomfortable for some as no dress code is really enforced (when asked about what i should wear in there as i brought a swimsuit, the lady nonchalantly said theres a wrap in your locker.). The hallway was so dim it seemed dirty. I did enjoy the cold minty towels and did wonder about the turkish suites, however I dont think I would come back just on that account. I didn’t enjoy the music throughout — I thought it eerie and the whole experience before the massage didn’t relax me. The space at the entry is a bit awkward for spacing and there is too much product being advertised — it felt like I was in a store. The cleaning staff must be a bit disorganized because there were water cups left on a table in the reception and the bench where you sit to fill forms was dirty with crumbs of something scattered about.

Hammam Spa used to be my favourite spa in the city. Unfortunately, I need to find a new favourite spa. I went on Friday evening, after work, with a few girlfriend’s. Our spa experience didn’t start out very peaceful, as we had to wait to speak to the receptionist for about 15 minutes, and then when we went to change in the rooms, all of the lockers had not been stocked with towels or robes, so we had to go ask the front desk for assistance, and then wait another ¹⁰⁄₁₅ minutes for her to restock the lockers. When you arrive early to enjoy the steam, it’s annoying that you’re pushed back almost 30 minutes due to Hammam. Moving on, when we finally went into the steam, which is normally my favourite part, it stunk so incredibly bad. It smelled like someone with bad BO on the subway.
My massage, however, was amazing. No complaints there. But afterwards, when we went to relax in the relaxation room and to have some tea, they were out of tea. They were just not restocking anything. When spending $ 150 + tip (so $ 180 for a 1 hour massage), I expect to have a smooth process from start to finish. And it was just a flop.
There are other spas in the city — I think I’ll explore those ones.

Having been to Hammam Spa many years ago and remembering the great experience; my lovely beau and I decided to check it out again on my birthday last week. We treated ourselves to a Turkish Hammam bath treatment as it seemed fitting to bring in my new year feeling cleansed, relaxed and purified.
We arrived an hour prior to our appointment to enjoy the hammam and were greeted by a lovely receptionist who gave us a quick refresher of the spa. Since our appointment was on a weekday mid day we pretty much had the whole spa and hammam to ourselves, which I loved.
I didn’t know what to expect of the bath since we’ve never had a Turkish bath before but it was a nice experience to share with my love. It was a lot shorter than the 1 hr 10 mins. it was suppose to be so I doubt we’ll try it again but the attendants were very informative during the treatment.
Although I loved the way it made my skin feel afterwards we won’t be returning. Some of the reviews I read here turned out to be true even though I was really hoping it wouldn’t. The hammam did smell funky at some points and we both ended up sick a day after. Coincidence much?

I had a really nice day at Hammam.
I bought the Rest package for my mother for her birthday and joined her for a massage, facial and manicure.
The locker rooms were clean, but a bit on the cold side.
I really like the renovation. The moss on the walls gives the place a really earthy feel, and the manicure area has beautiful plants along the back wall.
We arrived early and used the Hammam steam room before our services. We were the only ones in there, which was really nice.
We had:
Swedish massage, facial, manicure. All of my services were excellent and the attendants were friendly knowledgeable. Also, the person who booked us put us in a couple’s treatment room at no extra cost, which we both really appreciated.
Hammam Spa is nicer than the casual places, and more casual than the ultra-​luxurious spas. The prices are reflective of this. I think our package was extremely well priced at $ 339 each, taxes in.
I will definitely return to Hammam!

I’ve visited in the past and enjoyed. Today was the first day after their renovation and I expected a great experience. Instead I was horribly disappointed. I wish they had called me and just cancelled instead of getting what I got
I should say that the massage therapist who l saw was great. The treatment itself was pleasant. But Hammam be brands itself on being more than just a massage treatment.
The steam room was cold. Ice cold in fact. Just not ready yet. There were contractors walking around still working. Including one that walked into a toilet stall on me, which by the way didn’t have a lock installed on it.
The showers don’t even have doors yet, there was no shampoo or soap nor was there any hot water. I must say. A great massage was very quickly ruined by an ice shower that I couldn’t even wash up in. I hope they shut the doors for a few more days and finish up before inviting clients in.
And the $ 25 gift card for my inconvenience did not do much to make up for paying $ 125 for such a negative experience.

I went for a facial and I’m now concerned that there is so much product in my hair that it won’t wash it for weeks. She proceeded to do a head massage that had her rubbing all the product from my face in my hair for about five minutes. I really wish I had asked her to stop.
They also are very very aggressive about selling you product. The first 20mins of the facial were spent trying to convince me to buy product at the spa, despite multiple attempts to divert conversation without being ride.
The overall spa atmosphere is okay but there are many nicer places in Toronto, particularly for the price.
I would not recommend this place. The hammam is coed and is so dark you can’t tell whether it is actually clean or you’re stepping in a big puddle, which happens frequently. To be honest, the steam room at my gym is more pleasant as it has lights.

This spa is sub par and should really take a second look at its delivery. I’m surprised its received such reviews. I’ve been to many spa places in the city and this one is by far the worst.
One star off because the massage itself was just okay. We had a couple massage, I had an aromatherapy and my partner had a deep tissue. Even upon a little instruction by us the RMTs failed to adjust their styles — frustrating. This is especially annoying when the place charges WAY more than it should for massages. Is this a cash cow kind of place? t
Another star off, The place is terribly used for space. The male washroom was small. The faucets were broken and slippers were way to small. Is this place only for small people?
Another star off because the space is terribly used. Its small, does not remind one at all of a true gamma experience besides the pictures on the wall. Not even a small bit. The steam room was nice but really the LEDs lights were over stimulating. In fact, the music was like a club — probably to suit the demographic of the neighborhood.
One more star off simply because there was one staff (masseuse?) who walked in to the tea room area fully had a loud conversation with her colleague for a solid 3 minutes — I guess the «shhh» sign was meant to indicate an optional quiet experience.
The fourth star off because of the price. Simple way to expensive for what other places offer in the city. Its a shame I’m paying their staff and rent and getting such a non-​hammam experience.
I give one star because simply it exists as a spa place and some of the staff were friendly. But seriously there are far better places in the city if you want to dish out this kind of cash and get a tedious, stressful and blah spa experience. Oh. It has an online booking system which is nice but also terribly non-​functional for changes or updated. In fact trying to reach their reservations desk was like calling them 2 – 3 times a day a week beforehand.
Bottom line. There are other spas. Go there unless and until the owners make some real changes.

Great staff and services. It’s a lovely spa with good offerings. Although I found the 60min Swedish massage to be more expensive than other all-​inclusive spas (and ones with pools) they do provide nice amenities like the eucalyptus towels and mixed waters.
So why the poor review? It’s due to a poor choice by the owners — they facilities are in a partially below grade, basement of an old building. Mix in the hot steam room and you have a pretty ripe environment for bacterial growth. To their credit, staff reported that cleaners are employed to sterilize. However I found that the dim lighting largely hide the issues. From the outside of the steam room, you can see mold growing behind the glass where the benches meet it. While the front of the seats were quite slippery. Crossing the hall in the therapy room, you can see the old brick and window of the factory basement and realize how raw and dirty the basement is. Unfortunately, my partner suffers from autoimmune difficulties and afterwards was couch ridden for two days. I’m much more resilient, but also found I felt somewhat ill afterwards.
The spa has great staff and services. It’s just unfortunate that the facilities seem to be suffering from age and a poor environment choice.

This place seems quite polarizing based on previous Unilocal reviews, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. But I came here mainly wanting to check out the hammam experience. This place has been around for a long time, but I never came before because the prices seemed way too high. But they are offering 20% off all online booking this month, so I decided to use my insurance RMT benefits and try it out. A 60 mins. Swedish massage came to $ 112 instead of $ 140. Yes, it’s expensive but with any service over $ 100 you get free access to the hammam.
I had a really relaxing experience here, despite it being a busy Saturday. There were a lot of people but it somehow never felt crowded, I never had to wait for a shower, and there was always room to sit in the tea lounge. There were a few instances were people were talking loudly in the changeroom, but generally, I found it much quieter and more relaxing than Body Blitz. It’s also nice that it’s co-​ed (but it means you have to wear either a bathing suit or the wrap they give you… I brought my swimsuit because I think the wrap would still be kinda risqué).
From start to finish, the service was excellent. I was given a walk around of the place and the facilities are really clean. Staff were constantly walking around clearing used towels, empty cups, etc. Everything smells amazing too! Eucalyptus oil everywhere… The change rooms have lockers and you can set the code (i.e. no having to keep track of a key). They provide robes (which are enormous, but I have never found a spa where they have small size robes) and slippers (which thankfully come in S/​M/​L/​XL). There are rain showers and all the basics — blow dryers, hair straightener, body lotion. But bring your own hairbrush.
After taking a shower, I went to the steam room. It was a lot larger than I expected. It is very steamy and you can barely see in front of you, but there’s lots of room to sit and enjoy. It might be too hot for some people, but I loved it. I have been to hammams in Europe before and this was similar. In the hammam area, there are also showers to rinse off, a fridge with cool towels and cucumber water, and 2 suites (for if you buy a package that includes gommage scrub). I went back and forth between the steam room and the tea lounge (which has hot and iced tea, fruit, and magazines). You don’t need to watch the time for your booked service, because once you arrive the staff know you are in the facility so they will call your name either in the steam room or the lounge. I thought that was nice, but it still would’ve been useful to have a clock somewhere.
My massage was with Connie, and it was great. Some people find the service rooms noisy (you can hear people walk by), but I was in a room that was farther away and it was fine. Connie checked in a few times to make sure the pressure was good. I didn’t have any particular area of focus, but found the massage really relaxing and almost fell asleep… The massage table is heated too, which was nice.
Overall, this was a great escape in the middle of the city and the only reason I wouldn’t give it 5 stars is because it is so expensive (I wish we had a hammam experience in Toronto that was more social and affordable enough that one could go regularly). But it is definitely a nice treat!
