Meet the Business Owner
Steve Gonzalez G.
Business Owner
Chef Steve Gonzalez has made it his mission to bring South America’s dynamic food culture to downtown Toronto. Valdez, his first project as a restaurateur, became an immediate hit on King West by delivering a vibrant mix of bold flavours, tasty booze and Latino street vibe.
Prior to opening Valdez, Steve was Chef de Cuisine at Origin when it ranked as the #1 New Restaurant by Toronto Life. A former fan favourite on Top Chef Canada, Steve has worked in restaurants for over 20 years, honing his craft at places like Colborne Lane and Sassafraz, as well as in various kitchens in Spain, Hong Kong and Miami.
Steve, who grew up in Canada and spent his summers in Colombia, has become a well-known figure in Toronto’s chef-driven food scene. He set a new Guinness World Record for Longest BBQ Marathon at 32 hours, 40 minutes, and recently won his 3rd straight Guacamole Smackdown held at The Drake.
