Steve the Hot Dog Guy

Best hotdogs in the city, hands down. If we could get rid of Steve it would be perfect, he could use a slap, but man his dogs are good and cheap.

Every Spring I look forward to seeing Steve’s sign at the entrance to the Piercy’s Building Supplies parking lot on Robie Street. Look for him under a blue canopy with a portable set-​up right out side the store. At $ 3 for a gigantic hotdog and $ 4 for a sausage it is a cheap portable lunch. He par boils them and finishes them off on a grill. The result is a deliciously crisp skin. My regular is the hot Italian with lots of Sriracha, banana peppers and hot pepper relish. Consistently good and cheap. Try do go just before 12 or after 1 or you could have a wait; this spot is popular with the blue collar crowd. I’d give them five stars but Steve can be a bit grumpy sometimes like when you pay with (exact) change (no idea why) and with his staff.

Steve the Hot Dog Man is Back! I first tried one of these BBQ’d sausages about a year ago. This was the best BBQ’d sausage, of course I put sauerkraut and onions, hot mustard and hot peppers.
It is time to head to Steve’s again.

Steve has about 6 different kinds of sausages as well as hot dogs and made fresh to order. When I go he knows me by now that I like a Hot Italian well done with my bun toasted. TO DIE FOR. They are huge for $ 3.50. And the topping range from everything hot which I like to hots sauce, mustard to sauerkraut and some corn topping. Pop and chips are available as well to purchase.
If you go 12 – 1 is always busy with a line up so try and hit it later. I guarantee you will be back for another. See you there
