I had their Frito chili dog at the food truck thing. So great! The buns are amazing. The hot dogs are high quality. And the toppings were the cherry on top. I can’t wait to go back and try other kinds. Can’t really say anything about the restaurant but the food was amazing.

After being tube steak-blocked for a couple months by such silly things as marriage, a honeymoon and work, I was recently finally able to hit up one of Halifax’s newest mobile food vendors, T-Dogs. Their usual spot is fairly close to my apartment, just in front of Nauss Bicycle Shop on Agricola, near the corner of Charles St. I made the jaunt over one grey, humid evening to get in on the house-made hotdog goodness. Now I have nothing against the humble hotdog, even the lowliest Maple Leaf brand ones. My wife isn’t a fan of their emulsified texture, and I’m not broke anymore, so I don’t keep them on hand, as a dozen sticks of mediocre meat isn’t appealing for one person to slog through. T-Dogs’ however are their own mixture of pork and beef, wrapped in lamb casings, and I’m sure they’d tell you what cuts they use if you asked; no mystery meat factor here. On this day they had three options: the standard T-Dog, which you can dress as you will with several condiments, the Texas Hot, and the Reuben. I’m not against Reubens, but I’m definitely more pro-chili dog, so I went with the Texas Hot. The already steamed dog was put on the grill for some browning, and soon I was on my way with a chili slathered dog. The dog itself had a white-ish colour, rather than the nitrite pink of the standard hotdogs of yore, with some nice colour from the grill. It had a nice seasoning to it, and wasn’t overly salty like store-bought dogs either. Its texture was definitely that of a hotdog and not a sausage, but not nearly as mushy as a commercial wiener, and even my wife was a fan. The chili was mild, but had a rich flavour, smooth texture, and tender meat. The squirt of honey mustard and sprinkling of white onions I added rounded out the appropriate hotdog experience. This was a grade A hotdog, and I’ll definitely be back to check out some of their other rotating specials like the banh mi and Frito pie dogs.

Ah the sausage… the lesser cousin of the burger, the brunt of tasteless jokes etc., etc. Well the humble sausage is raised to an art form at T DOGS. I dropped by late one afternoon well after lunchtime and there still a few people lining up. Great homemade sausages. Lot of flavour and a bit of smoke. All served in a bakery-fresh bun. No fluffy wonder-goodness here. Not gristly at all and the casing is not too tough which it can be on craft sausages. The dogs are good enough to stand on their own but even better with all the delicious condiments including a homemade coleslaw and«New York» style onions. I even liked the little cardboard holder that the tubular goodness is served in. For $ 8.50 I tried the weekly special which was the steak and cheese sausage. I liked how Sam, the owner, put the finishing touches on the steak with a little cast-iron skillet on the BBQ. I will certainly be visiting T DOGS again and look forward to trying more things on their menu.

Best dogs I’ve ever had, bar none. The Texas hot is incredible, not spicy but just a great meat sauce on a homemade hot dog. Seem to have new specials every week that keep things fresh.

Delicious dogs $ 5 – 8, the owner-operator enthusiastically explained all the housemaid dogs, toppings, and weekly specials. We had driven by a number of times but didn’t realize it was anything special until I saw them retweeted. I’m sure we’ll have many more stops on the way home, when our bellys are empty :)

I’m not typically a hot dog kinda gal. It’s kind of like, when you go out and you want some food. is hot dog really the first thing that pops into your head? I’ve been seeing lots of social media hype about this place so I added it to my mental list of places to try out. I am so happy I did! The hot dogs are actually handmade sausages, about a foot long and the bun is fresh from a local bakery. I had the Bahn Mi Dog, I thought it was only a special hot dog a week, but they have lots of others to choose from, and also a veggie option. It’s a pretty popular spot. I had to wait in line and got the last non-veggie dog.

Best Hot Dogs in the city! Had the Bahn Mi Dog and it was out of this world.
