Recently this independent lumber yard and hardware store was acquired by Rona, but beyond changing the house brands they carry and now offering Air Miles, I have noticed little change to the business. And that means it continues to be my first choice for hardware and lumber supplies. It is not as large as a proper Rona, Home Depot or Lowes, but I have almost always found what I needed there(from lightbulbs, to moustraps, to lumber, to nuts and bolts). Their customer service is above average, and they are rarely so busy that you can’t get served promptly. I would recommend this place as the first choice for anyone looking for any sort of home improvement needs.

They may not have the huge selection like a big box but they make up for it in service.

It’s not your big box hardware store, but Piercey’s has most things you need for little projects around the house. Don’t expect décor items, tile or carpet. You might have to search for someone to help you, but they really authentically will help you if you have an idea of what you want to ask. They deal mostly with contractors, most employees will walk newbies through the purchasing process for their projects, from sandpaper to garden tools to plumbing to thermostats. And they surely know their stuff.(unlike staffers at some other hardware stores I could name.) If you’re looking for bigger items, like windows, doors or fixtures, they have a selection that’s very different from what you’ll find elsewhere. They stock mostly things at the high end, so if you want to do your job on the cheap, the big boxes are probably a better bet, but if you know you want the kind of quality that will last, you know Peirceys will set you up right. And it’s great to have a neighbourhood hardware store — we need more of these little guys.

Recently my father decided he was going to «fix up» the house. After calming down my mother and making a few Tim Taylor jokes I decided to help him make a run to Pierceys and get his supplies. Pierceys is a must visit for anybody taking a building project. They have what seems like an infinite amount of stock to help with any project you under take. The guy who helped us was really friendly and knowledgeable. He actually suggested some alternative materials to the ones my father had chosen that were just as reliable and much less expensive. Dad was really pleased and I(as always) was happy to see that quality customer service still existed. Since this initial run, my father and I have made several trips back to the store for more supplies. It’s been a great experience every time. If you are taking on a home renovation this summer, Pierceys will definitely have you covered. I am also happy to report that our home is still standing.

I only go to Pierceys as a last resort. More so because it is in a good location for convenience. I have never been wowed by the store or the staff. I have found what I was looking for, but it seemed I was pulling teeth trying to get help. The selection is very limited, so this is for the basic only stuff for me when in a pinch. I need to plan ahead more.

I like having a neighbourhood hardware store, for those days when you don’t feel like making a trip out to the big-box store just for a couple of #6 robertson screws. In fact, I’m really glad this store exists, just on principle, because it’s a Nova Scotia-born business. However, the store could use some work in terms of its customer service. I have found, fairly consistently, that i get pretty crappy customer service, and it seems to be because I’m a woman. That kind of foolishness has just got to go. The male customers there get a lot of back-slapping camaraderie, while I get consistently ignored. *sigh*. Don’t worry, boys, I can usually find what I need on my own, anyway. Also, the prices are higher than the big-box stores, but that’s to be expected, I guess.
