Hung Phat Vietnamese Noodle House

This place was just fine to grab a bowl of phở. The broth was a bit sweet and I found that off putting, but that’s just personal taste and I won’t fault the whole restaurant for it.
It’s clean, fine service and lots of parking. Not much more you could look for in a Vietnamese joint.

Best satay i have had yet i thought Phở Hoan Pasteur qas excellent until i had the combination satay. Delicious!!!

I always like coming here for satay phở, really delicious and unique broth compared to the many places I’ve been.

Ordered vegetarian spring roll vermicelli (#43) and confirmed at least 4 – 5 times that the spring rolls were going to be vegetarian & not pork as several Vietnamese places seem to mess this up. Low and behold get back to work & take a bite… they are pork spring rolls. Super frustrating especially after confirming they would be vegetarian. Rest of the vermicelli was super underwhelming. Dried out noodles, cold tofu and miniscule veggies. Will pass next time.

Probably the best Vietnamese food on the southside. The service is always super friendly and laid back, and the owner is really nice.
The phở can be a touch inconsistent once in a blue moon, but still very good and better than most. The springrolls, fluffy green onion cakes are great starters. The spicy satay noodle soups, or the 4 – 5 grilled meats over vermicelli are also excellent.
Everything is great with a cold beer or a real iced coffee (I’ve had Vietnamese restaurants that served pre-​made coffees)

I’ve been to Hung Phat more times than I can remember. I’ve also adolescently snickered at the name as many times. I go here mainly for phở and bun. They excel at both.
The service here is excellent, attentive and also very friendly. Noodles are great and the both is nice and smooth with a tinge of sour. My favourite things about this place are the meatballs and the fact that you have three kinds of hot sauces on the table. Your chili oil, your thicker chili oil and your good old sriracha sauce. I shake my head with acknowledging approval with the condiment displayed on the tables. That’s how you you do it!
The #12 special will set you back 11.95. It has all the meat goodies so it’s my favourite. Would definitely recommend this place. Whenever I find myself in the south on personal time, I will go out of my way to plan getting lunch here. The bonus is that it’s hardly ever ridiculously busy here and you can get a table pretty quickly.

Love the #50. Tried IPho and was not impressed came back here for well prepared flavorful food, friendly staff and prompt service. Best springs rolls!

This is pretty much my go to place for Vietnamese phở in my neighbourhood! In fact, when we went there yesterday the server recognized us! That’s the type of service you’re going to get from here.
If you have a cold, I suggest the curry soup. It’s spicy, flavourful and helps to get things moving out the nose area if you catch my drift.
Typically I get the 5 colours vermicelli bowl. The chicken is SO good! It’s tender, with a delicious skin. The pork is totally delicious. The beef — total yumsville.
I highly suggest going to Hung Phat because the price is right, the food is tight, and the ambiance is allllllllright.

Tried this place out after my brother recommended it. Ordered special phở and was not disappointed. Good portion, not skimpy on the meats at all and the broth was flavourful. Not much more you can ask for in a phở.
Hubby had special satay. He couldn’t finish his bowl, it was full to the brim! Said his broth was spicy and didn’t need any extra sauce at all.
As for service, there were about six other tables and while it wasn’t super speedy, it also wasn’t painfully slow. Food really seemed homemade. Also noticed that the staff remembered their regulars and made them feel special.
The restaurant itself was clean and neat. Saw a bit of wear and tear but nothing off putting.
Will definitely come back!

Found this place on Unilocal today when I want to have some quick phở when coming from the airport. Was a nice clean place very friendly people and the phở wasn’t too bad.
I would say that it was a little weird that they didn’t have any hot tea today but other than that I would say this is an average place and it was very clean.
I just went with the street Phở Tai and it was fine for only $ 9.95.

Hung Phat. Now that your inner 8 year old is done giggling, can I start this review up? I’ve always complained about how the south side is lacking a good Vietnamese place to go with all the other good eats in the area. Seriously, south side is dope. Well, that’s where Hung Phat Vietnamese Noodle House comes into play. I’ve passed by this place so many times without blinking an eye but I finally decided one day to check it out on a Wednesday evening after seeing it had excellent ratings on the ‘spoon. That and I just went to my first ever spin class at Tru Ride, which meant I needed to regain all the calories I had just lost in the past hour.
Hung Phat is located in a little strip mall area. If you know where Izakaya Tomo is, it’s pretty much right there. Service is typical Vietnamese style but leans on the bare, minimal side (we had to ask for water). You pay at the counter up front when you’re done eating. One odd thing was the bean sprout/​basil/​lemon side dish we got was pretty depressing looking — the basil leaves were small and limp. At least give some fresh basil leaves…
— Satay seafood rice noodle soup (#25) ($ 11.95) — Oh. Em. Gee. Hung Phat’s satay soup is unreal. The broth was sooooo good — the perfect balance of spice, heat and sweetness. The broth itself is thick and almost chunky (for lack of better words). It’s something completely different than your normal phở bowls. You get hints of peanuts and lemongrass flavours in the broth. They even have tomatoes in the soup that give it a bit of sweetness. Oh man, I need to go back asap and try more!
This is what you call heaven in a bowl. Not to mention how deceivingly large their bowls are — seriously, I kept on eating and it barely looked like I made a dent in it. They are generous with the noodles, which were a tad messy to deal with. Clumped together but I powered through.

Awesome Vietnamese spot on the south side. Happy to have found another good place to eat at! Order their satay soup. Winner, winner, satay dinner.

I come here strictly for the beef satay soup. I should probably venture out and try something else, but I love it too much.

Having grown up in California, we’ve been eating good Vietnamese food our whole lives. When we moved to Edmonton we started trying out the various Vietnamese restaurants in town, including a few in Chinatown. We decided to try Hung Phat on a whim and have been going back again and again ever since. The first time there, we had the spring rolls, mi dac biet (combo noodle soup), and phở tai (beef noodle soup). All were delicious! The second time we went we had hu tieu nam vang (seafood noodle soup) and com suon (pork chop and rice). Again, both were delicious, best so far in Edmonton! Prices are reasonable and service is friendly. We highly recommend this place.

Great location, beside one of the best variety liquorstores and one of the best cigar stores in the city. The Thai style soup was excellent, loaded with lots of goodies; vegetables and meat as well. My daughter loved it so it wasn’t spicy at all. My wife had a vermicelli bowl and it was fresh and delicious. Portions weren’t as generous as other Vietnamese restaurants we’ve been to but not lacking either. The spring rolls were homemade and tastes fresh and delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone and advise getting some food, a beer and a cigar for dessert.

I live in the south end of the city and there aren’t much Vietnamese cuisine restaurants around, i’ve always wished one opened up, and it did! I’ve been her 3 times, and all 3 times food has been consistent and great. I’ve ordered 5 color vermicelli and their beef noodle soup. Both are good in servings and tastes great. Service is fast and very kind. Because this is the only style of Vietnamese cuisine in this area, it gets extremely busy during the lunch hour, so busy sometimes that you would have to wait for a table to finish, great for their business, sucks waiting, but owell. I like that when i have a craving for a nice hot soup or light dinner i can come here, only negative i have about this place is its hours, only open till 8 is kind of a bummer. This style of food for me is great for a 9 – 10 snack, haha.

This place gets crazy busy during the week for the lunch rush so plan accordingly and either go before/​after the rush.

It was cold out, I was craving some spicy, hot, steaming soup and a night on my couch! Hung Phat (seriously, I can’t even type it without snickering out loud) is fast and decently priced, so I dropped in to grab some take out. Waiting for your food to be made, especially while alone and starving, can often be torcher; but they have a large flat screen over front till and when I was in they had the Oiler game on, with sound! This really is Oil country.
The Thai soup is good, really big with tons of seafood, but something in the flavour was a bit lacking. Better to go with a traditional Vietnamese phở soup. The spring rolls are super crispy and I loved the puffy, perfectly fried, green onion cake.
The owners are very nice. The food is made fast and the restaurant is very clean. I would not go here for Friday night date night, or nice dinner with the whole family. But for everyday, decent take out or pop in for a bite, it is perfect!

With so many businesses around, this is a great area to have a Vietnamese restaurant.
Parking is right outside the door which is very convenient. The tables and chairs are spaced out comfortably and there’s decent ventilation in the restaurant. I don’t like my hair and clothes smelling like Phở when I leave a Vietnamese restaurant.
The woman who brought us the menu and tea was very polite. I assume she is the manager.
Nothing really special about the tea other than it was hot. The sprouts, mint leaves, chilli pepper and lime were clean and fresh.
We ordered the salad rolls as our appetizer. I didn’t expect the rolls to be this big… it was packed with vermicelli, shrimp, and meat. We were only able to finish one roll each…
My manager had the Satay Beef Noodle Soup. That’s the only kind of soup he ever order when he eats at Vietnamese Restaurant. He described it as «the second best Satay Beef Noodle Soup in Edmonton.» He also said, «the soup is not too thick and the heat on the spice is perfect.»
My manager used a fork… and I used chopsticks… would love to agree with his opinion but let’s just say I eat out lots…
I had the Phở Dac Biet, which is the first thing on the menu. It was also the soup that the woman recommended that I should try.
It was good and I found it to be very favorable. There were a lot of meat and noodles in it.
The one thing that stood out for me was how they took the time to put slice marks in the beef ball to make it easier for us to bite into. Very thoughtful. =)
