Pretty Little Things

I brought in a bag of stuff. The owner picked through & chose what she thought she could sell. I called back a month later, they had sold all items but one. I stopped by a week later, picked up my cheque and one unsold item. Great shop, cute items for sale and an honest owner!

Has nice collection of coats and some clothes. I used to love this place but the owner doesn’t seem to care too much about customer satisfaction, and I’ve just moved on to other vintage stores throughout the city.
The store is FAR too crowded such that it is difficult to move and find things, and a candle was lit the last time I visited very close to flammable papers and cloth. Fire hazard!
I do like that they now have a collection of TokyoMilk perfumes!

Anyone who knows me well, knows I am a huge advocate of things with history.
This appreciation for vintage goods has been a thing of mine since I was a nerdy kid and would scope out all kinds of thrift stores and mothball-​y garage sales. Because of my scavenging prowess, I know where to find a lot of the goods at Pretty Little Things elsewhere, and how much these various types of items would go for at other antique shops and sales. Therefore, in my opinion, the goods at Pretty Little Things are priced a little steeply.
Also, the whole entire set up looks like a set from Portlandia. While the aesthetic does appeal to my senses, it’s just a little contrived for my taste. Also, not sure who the previous reviewer was greeted by, but the woman who greeted my friend and I was totally rude. She offered a grumpy «hi» as though we had intruded while we were already browsing, and didn’t even crack a smile. She greeted many customers in this awkward fashion and it made me really uncomfortable. I don’t think I plan to visit again.

With only a couple minutes to spare before my appointment at the Inglewood Beauty Bar, I took a quick peek in Pretty Little Things. I was welcomed with a friendly smile and greeting from who I believe is the store owner. My quick peek was soon a couple steps in, which then turned into a stroll around the store and a semi-​thorough look around. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the time to go upstairs, but I’ll definitely return when I have a chance.
There are so many great, eye-​catching things in this store; I had trouble peeling myself away. The prices are reasonable and the inventory is amazing, there are pretty little things and pretty big things: from vintage accessories and clothing to antique hutches. Make sure to stop in if you’re in the area — or make a special trip if you aren’t!
Note that this store is now on 9^th Avenue, in Inglewood. You must access it from inside the Inglewood Beauty Bar which is in the old Costume Shoppe building (that sign still remains on the building).

On a nice Saturday morning, in between a bizarre, urgent need to rent a 2-​ton truck and my girlfriend almost needing to throw up in my car, I passed a little tiny shop that was pointed out to me.
«Oh! There’s Pretty Little Things! Have you ever been there?» I hadn’t — it sits on a funny road in Calgary that borders an industrial area that smells like rotting yeast and the incredibly artisan neighbourhood of Ramsay.
Later that day, after all the problems had been solved and all the crisis averted, I stopped back in to check it out. I was very intrigued. Out front there was a little table with a chalkboard sign that said «50% Off». Who doesn’t stop for that? That’s like not stopping for a lemonade stand run by a kid with a broken leg.
It was adorable! The place is filled with little treasures — the kind of stuff you see people in Anthropolgie ads wearing and cluttering up their homes with. Clothes, glass bottles and jars, furniture, books, jewellery. I stopped and chatted to the owner, mostly because today they had some antique postcards they were consigning and (PLEASE don’t ask how) I have 160 blank antique postcards at my house. I was asking her about her criteria and she was so friendly, so honest. You can tell this something she just likes to do and it’s growing into something substantial. She talked about her upcoming sale and all the new stuff she’s been getting from her funky, older consigners.
This store is a treat, if not for a purchase than for a friendly conversation, interesting things to look at and supporting a local business. Of which I am a freak about.
Why 4 out of 5 stores? At this point, the store is a little small, a little cramped. Don’t get me wrong, that’s part of it’s kitch factor but I’m looking forward to when she can fill out her collections a bit more. With the postcards I am going to consign to her.
