I’m here mid morning on a Monday. I’ve seen this café from the bus several times, so when my schedule changed I thought that I could jump off mid trip, enjoy a coffee and still be at my destination on time. Not busy. A guy out the front, a grandma & little on the lounge, & a couple walked in after me. Looks like a courtyard out the back so there may be patrons there too. It’s a big place. I’ve chosen to sit near the ‘kitchen’ that’s just near the entrance. I ordered the banana bread. Was the usual café loaf, but served with butter and a berry jam or compote. On a bus route that goes past a hundred cafes I tend to think that next time I might seek something that feels a bit cosier.

Great relaxed café. Food and service are good, as is the coffee!

NOC — that’s a big statement. Well when you know that NOC stands for ‘No Ordinary Café’ only then do you think that’s a big statement. I mean, you’re setting the bar pretty high here. Well, that’s at least how I went into NOC — with high expectation. Saturday mornings are hectic — the café is packed with people, prams and dogs vying for a table or at least waiting patiently for a takeaway coffee. The staff seem frazzled but manage a veneer of cheerfulness. The food is OK — I order a standard bacon and eggs which is, yeah, just OK. The coffee however(Grinders) is really good. Overall this is a North Shore Mum’s Mecca and I think there are some more extraordinary options in neighboring suburbs like Castlecrag.
