When I think of a bazaar I think of dodgy, dusty overcrowded markets in Asia and the Middle East, packed with bodies and steamy with smells. Picture that … and this is the opposite. Calm, cool, stylish … a retail retreat. Strictly speaking, it is ‘a bazaar’ in that it does sell an eclectic collection of different things, sourced from all over the world. But here, they are Willoughby-ised — clean, organised, mature. I was drawn in by the pretty striped deckchairs laid out on the footpath — in fact, to my daughter’s horror, I spent some time sitting in one. Inside, I would describe it as muted tones but lots of texture. Out behind the shop itself is a large garden area dedicated to pots and jars and urns, fountains and pond sculpture — outdoor furniture, in very broad scope. Good for gifts, great for yourself; a reason to stop in Penshurst Street on yet another traverse of the suburbs between sports venues.
