That’s right — I was as surprised as you are, but this unassuming juice bar easily hit my 5-star credentials. It’s fast, no nonsense, completely unpretentious(seriously — not a Mason jar in sight), and $ 6 will score you a large juice with as many freshly juiced ingredients as your heart desires. My poison? Carrot, beetroot, ginger, pineapple, spinach and celery. Serving me exactly what I want without delay for less than I’m used to paying is as good as it gets in my book. Go on, Fat Carrot!

Who doesn’t like a smoothie on a hot day(especially in Brisbane when we have hot days all year round)? Fat Carrot is pretty much the West End version of smooothie chains such as Boost. It has a very earthy and organic feel to it, which I really like. You can’t walk past this place and not notice it, it’s not everyday that you see a huge graphic drawing of a carrot as the logo to a business. With its bright colours and posters all over the wall, this place looks very lively. All the products are made with fresh and organic products, and this really does make the difference in the flavours of the smoothies. Ordering one of these smoothies can be just as refreshing as ordering a coffee, it also makes me feel a lot healthier than a coffee would. If you are ever in West End and feel like you need a bit of a pick-me-up, Fat Carrot makes a great alternative to stoping at one of the many cafes.

A juice and sushi bar, Fat Carrot is a good place to go if you’re in the mood for something healthy yet edible. I have always loved a smoothies — they’re magical. I love how just by putting all these ingredients I would never go out of my way to eat into a blender together they become delicious. I was, therefor, naturally interested in Fat Carrot but the outdated and bare interior made me somewhat hesitant. But there had to be a reason the place could continue to operate on such a prime piece of real estate and that reason is the smoothies. Forget the sushi, that’s just a diversion, the carrot is all about the icy cold drinks on offer. My personal favourite is the Fat Carrot Smoothie which gives you a winning combination of carrot, banana, honey and yogurt for $ 5.50(small). The service is good and it’s nice to see your drink being prepared in front of your eyes. Given the endless combinations one could make with the fruit and veg selection available Fat Carrot is the sort of place you will find yourself going back to time and time again.

I have often regarded this little juice bar with suspicion it was always eerily empty whenever I’ve walked past. (which I usually take as a FORSURE sign thats it’s on the far side of crap.) Thankfully one typically sticky brisbane day, I felt it was a bit too much for traditional bacon + 1 egg breakfast. I ventured into the unfamiliar terrain and ordered a brekky smoothie (Complete with weetbix.) and have been hooked on Fat Carrot ever since. The juices are fresh and prepared right in front of you, I usually buy the White Gold(Banana and Honey blend) It’s pretty creamy and rich, more than enough for a breakfast blend. You can’t really go wrong with most of the juice’s here (You can even make your own!) And although the sushi leaves something to be desired, this is still a fresh and healthy destination ideal for breakfast’s and pick-me-ups.

When I started working in West End I was unsure of where to score a banana smoothy. For whatever reason, I desired the delicious concoction of banana, ice-cream and milk that I was pretty sad when I couldn’t find a place that did it without resorting to some bland, syrup. That was until I came across Fat Carrot, a self-describe organic and health-first shop that sold sushi, fresh fruit and smoothies. It was delicious and I’ve since been back a few times to get my fill of fruit, milk and whatever else. You can choose to dine out on the sidewalk of West End and watch the strange inhabitants go about their day or you can just take it to go. The price is reasonable for a 750 ml cup and the sushi is well priced. It’s an excellent place that’s got a friendly staff(though their english is a bit confusing when ordering at times), and the place is very cheerful. A great place to grab a refreshing milk, gluten or fat free beverage.
