Went for brunch at Atomica with a friend today. At 1pm there were plenty of tables available. The staff was really friendly and even let us sit well past starting their clean up without pushing us to pay & leave. The coffee was pretty good, with a flavoursome & creamy flat white easily meeting my high expectations for any place that serves Merlo coffee. I also really liked the option to choose your own mix of juices. I ordered the lamb & rosemary sausages with mushrooms, bubbles & squeak, scrambled eggs and sourdough bread, my friend had the full breakfast with the additional roasted tomato and bacon. At over $ 18 both dishes are on the expensive side I’d say, but the portions are huge and very filling. My dish was very tasty, with the bubbles & squeak, rather than the sausages, being the hero on the plate in my eyes. The only real let down was my friend’s bacon, which was partially burnt while the fat wasn’t rendered down properly.

Holy hell. Best Breakfast Ever. As in my entire life. Had the eggs your way with lamb and rosemary sausage, bacon, mushrooms, roasted tomato, and bubble and squeak(potato/sweet potato hash) with thick cut toast and homemade jam. Unbelievable in so many ways. It was delicious and worth every dime. I can’t rave enough about how f’in amazing the food was here. You pay more — well, maybe standard b’fast prices for OZ — but you will walk out with a blue ribbon brekkie under your belt.

The menu isn’t very extensive, but the meals are good. It’s extremely busy in the morning and dead quiet around lunchtime. My boyfriend complained about the overcooked bacon and gave no compliments on his ice mocha, so I guess that’s a hint. My prosciutto sandwich wasn’t too disappointing taste-wise but it certainly wasn’t filling. Cute décor and nice staff, but personally I think it’s a bit overrated.

Yum yum bubble gum! Ok, so maybe that’s a bit too far. But this wonderful café is not too far in my eyes on a lovely weekend morning for breakfast. As another Unilocaler mentioned, it’s been here in west end forever. People come here all the time for the great coffee and great breakfast. I always enjoy this place for the sourdough bread that goes with the mega breakfast. It would definitely be a top 3 breakfast location in West End. Do yourself a favour and head on over!

Must have walked past Atomica everyday for a year and yet it never crossed my mind to call in for either coffee or breakfast. Probably because 4101 is so spoilt for choice. Finally took the plunge and stepped inside last Sunday. What’s to like, we’ll the posters on the wall captured my attention but that’s about where it started and ended for me. The coffee is ok but not a standout and the breakfast menu is built mainly around bacon, sausages, eggs and toast — nothing to inspire there. I had the sausages, mushroom, poached egg, bubble and squeak and toast. The b&s was bland but useful for mopping up the poached egg, which was — well, just a poached egg. The snags and mashies were a little too greasy for my liking and the sourdough toast was pretty tough to chew through. It was your typical M*A*S*H breakfast — repeated on me all morning. Truckies would lap this stuff up but in my view the menu lacks the imagination, presentation and finesse of its near neighbours.

It’s easy to forget Atomica. It’s been there for what seems like forever and it’s the same now as it ever was. The menu, the décor and the vibe. This is no bad thing as Atomica has never let me down. The eggs are always perfectly cooked and the coffee is consistently good. The Lamb Sausage breakfast is one of Brisbane’s most underrated breakfasts and is the best breakfast for a hangover in my opinion. The staff are invariably friendly and professional and kudos to the lady who was kicking ass there today. I’ve never seen anyone dominate front of house on their own like that. Bravo.

The chef(s) at Atomica know how to scramble eggs! So much so that I never stray from my order of eggs with toast, either bacon or sausage. Having said that, I’m sure they can poach the heck out of an egg too. :) And I have been told that their pork belly breakfast special is to die for. What makes the meal even more special is the side of tomato jam. Coffee is from Merlo and is consistently enjoyable. A terrific place for a weekday breakfast, where you can sit and relax with a good book, great coffee, and even better food.

Firstly, anywhere that does all day breakfast is instantly in my good books. Like that quote from Parks and Recreation: «Why would anybody ever eat anything besides breakfast food?» Indeed. I met up with some pals at Atomica for brunch and had the lamb sausages breakfast. I thought $ 17 was a bit exxy for breakfast, but it was a huge meal — two enormous lamb sausages with mint jam, bubble and squeak, poached eggs, toast and field mushrooms. The portions were very generous and everything tasted incredible. Atomica has a wide range of different drinks. I’m a tea fan so I was pleased to see a variety of different teas. Atomica is where I discovered Lady Grey tea. They brew it with fresh tea leaves. I drank a whole teapot of it. It was so good! The service was good too. Several wait staff actually came at once to serve our whole group, which I found exciting for some reason. Probably because I was really hungry and it was good not to wait too much. If you like eating breakfast foods at times other than breakfast, you’ll love Atomica!

Atomica has been at or near the top of my Favourite Breakfast list for at least a couple of years now. Their all-day breakfast menu packs a punch, with something for everyone — including the regular specials written on the mirrors along the walls. I’m no vegetarian but the herbed scrambled tofu is my favourite breakfast — always with a side of avocado, which I really think should be a standard part of the meal. The avocado sides at Atomica aren’t pitiful like some other cafes, either — it’s a whole half an avocado. Go to town on it. Everything else is consistently delicious, too — eggs benny, avocado and tomato on sourdough, bubble & squeak, I rate it all. The coffee used to consistently be amazing but I’ve noticed recently that it really depends who makes it. A little more barista training wouldn’t go astray — if the coffees got back to a consistently delicious quality, my 4-star rating would shift to 5 stars. Atomica’s regularly packed out on the weekends, but it’s worth waiting for a table. It’s particularly good if you score one of the outside bench tables, great for weekend people-watching(but outside can get a bit drafty, particularly in cooler months).

I had never had the chance previously to try out the brew from Atomica as whenever I’m in West End with my man friend we always end up going to Espressohead(creatures of habbit!), so when on a solo expedition recently I decided to pop in for a cuppa. The waiter who served me was lovely and chatty, and I remember thinking that if I lived in West End Atomica would be exactly the kind of haunt I would frequent. I ordered a piccolo and watched on in envy as people around me had their delicious looking breakfasts handed to them. My coffee came out promptly and was, sigh, amazing. Easily one of the best coffees I’d had in a long time! It’s a special blend roasted specifically by Merlo for Atomica and if it’s the only place I can get it then heck, I’ll be coming back! I loved my hour of loungey, laid back, coffee goodness at Atomica. Next time I’m in West End I’ll make sure I drag that man friend there with me. The coffee is supreme!

The first time I went to Atomica, I was hungover. I wanted to go to one of my usual breakfast haunts, but I was begged by a friend to ‘give Atomica a chance’. I wasn’t holding anything against Atomica, it just had never grabbed my attention before. We waited patiently outside for 20 minutes before getting a table. When we were seated, a tall, dark, roguishly handsome and cool character galloped out carrying water and glasses. «How are you guys this morning?» in a disinterested, distracted voice. My friends and I grasped at the water, and moaned in unison. One of us mustered up the politeness to return the enquiry: «And you?» He leant down towards the table, reached for our empty water bottle and casually said«Sh*t house. Look at all these f**king people everywhere». I now understood why I was asked to give Atomica a chance– this appeared to be a place that employed real people, ones with honest mouths, and a ‘I couldn’t give a sh*t about customer service or your needs” attitudes. I was in love. I’m not one for appeasing people, and neither were the staff at Atomica. Our breakfasts came out in fine time considering how busy they were. The servings were gigantic. Take note: you would do well to share a breakfast unless you are a well of hunger. I can never finish my meal even though I always wish I could. Know this: some meals are better than others. The classics are done well, but be weary of the scrambled tofu for instance– it’s good, but sometimes I’ve found that flavours clash or are a little on the intense side. The breakfasts are well priced considering how generous the servings are. The coffee is generally pretty good. Above anything else, Atomica gets the thumbs up for it’s honest character. It’s not like other cafes on the strip, nor does it try to be. They won’t go out of their way to treat you like royalty, but you’ll keep coming back for more.
