Dandelyon Gifts

For my sixth birthday, I was lucky enough to have a fairy-​themed birthday party complete with costumes, games, and a fairy queen to guide us through the celebrations of the day. It was the best day of my young life. I say this because Dandelyon Gifts reminds me of that birthday party. And of the Secret Garden. There are a lot of giftware places that are lovely and have some cute things and bla etc, but walking into Dandelyon is actually like walking through a rainforest garden speckled with fairies, handwritten wooden signs, and an enchanting ambiance. Yes, I give you permission to call me cliché and vapid (but dont because that’s rude) but this place reminds me of a carefree childhood where I believed in fairies and could spend hours inside my own imagination. As a fan of nostalgia in general, of course I’m going to love Dandelyon Gifts.
There are also some more modern decorations such as signs designed as post cards and envelopes with cute messages.
Yes it’s quaint, yes it’s cheesy, and yes I love it. So sue me.

Whenever I come inside this store, I feel like I have been transported to a magical fairy land. I know that sounds insanely cheesy but this place is just so cute and adorable and although I will admit I would not decorate my house head to toe with the little knib-​knobs that this store sells, it has unique household decorations and overall is a fun shop to visit.
The first thing that always sucks me into the store is the smell, it hits you as you are walking past. It has a very fragrant rose garden smell; the smell I could imagine fairies pouncing around in (yes, I know fairies are not real). You may get a little overwhelmed by everything on display here because there is A LOT of stuff. One thing I would love to take home from here but have not purchased because it would just add clutter to my life, would be one of the wooden birdcages. You would never actually put a bird in one of those, but they would make an amazing decoration in my room.
Dandelyon Gifts is a great store to visit, especially if the sound of visiting a magical fairy land is to your liking.

This place is just way too twee for my liking. So cheesy I could have had it on toast.
Although I do feel really bah humbug slagging off a relatively harmless gift shop in the middle of the festive season.
But I think it was the cliches that did it. Think gi-​normous signs with pukeworthy statements emblazoned on them like: «Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful» to «To the World You May Be Just One Person, But to One Person You Are The World».
And when I passed the blackboard with a «Recipe for Happiness» written on it in chalk, I think I was a little bit sick in my mouth.
I’m sure this place makes a lot of people very happy, but I just feel nauseous.

Prepare to be hit by the sweet perfume of patchouli and prettiness when you walk into this adorable little gift store. With its soft pastels and feminine fragrance this store isn’t for everyone, and you may encounter a gruff looking boyfriend or two sullenly skulking around while his lady-​friend goes gaga over all the knick knackery on display.
Horder haters beware, there certainly are a lot of trinkets here, and I’m not sure if you could really class any of them as essential. The motivational plaque with the anonymous proverb about ‘Friendship’; the decorative birdcage? Does anyone actually NEED this stuff?
Wait a minute — it’s not about need, it’s about want. Objects that make your home and your life just that little more interesting and joy-​filled. I once acquired a housewarming gift here for a ‘new-​age’ friend. It was one of their wall plaques with a quote from Henry David Thoreau about Dreams. She just ate it up.

We’re coming into the season of joy and giving! This truly is one of the most exciting and enriching times of the year, filled with food, drink, friends and the giving and receiving of useless things someone will never use or want. Where else can one procure such items other than Dandelyon Gifts!
All right, perhaps the above was a bit harsh. I in fact know of many people who would the ecstatic to receive a sleeve of incense, a birdcage or some mildly charming sign to wedge in their garden. In fact, I have been known to stalk stores like this, purchasing gifts for friends who revel in the receiving of such items. The problem is, when you yourself start receiving gifts of this nature, when you’d be much happier with a bottle of Bombay Sapphire or a gift pass for a massage.
I went to this store with a friend of mine who was particularly enthused by it products. Like a child he would squeal with joy as he moved from each adorably vintage object to the next. I have to admit that I don’t quite get it. This being said, I know exactly where to go if I need to buy someone a gift but have absolutely no idea what to get him or her.
Personally this place isn’t my thing but it will be for many others. Prices are reasonable, if one considers the objects to be of any particular value. With this in mind, it’s a perfect spot to hunt for gifts these upcoming holidays.

Dandelyon Gifts is a store full of a wide variety of odds and ends. Here they sell mainly homewares and gift-​type items. It really is impossible to list everything; they have jewellery, wall hangings, clothing, photo frames, you name it.
The place has somewhat of a bohemian vibe, which I love, and they offer fortune telling on occasion (I can’t remember the exact branch of reading, I’m sure I’m offending many with the use of the term ‘fortune telling’). It’s a calm, peaceful shop that will be sure to amuse you for a while, thanks to the many packed shelves as well as things hanging off the walls and ceiling. Even the front of the store is appealing, with many of their items artistically arranged to tempt passersby. When I visited, there was a group of tourists taking pictures of the eye-​catching display.
