Lovely little Café nestled in the beachside suburb of Swanbourne. After a swim this was a place of respite away from the hussle and bustle of the beach. There is something wonderful about a french café where the staff are actually french. We had the Beef Bourgignon and Chicken and Mushroom pies. The pastry was flaky and buttery and the filling were very tasty. I had trouble tearing myself from the sweets as they looked equally delectable. Definitely worth checking out.

Being literally up the street from us, we were bound to try this place. Yes we’ve passed it many times and tried our hardest not to look inside at the patisseries, even blocked our noses to avoid the sweet smells lingering on their front door but on that day, nothing could have stopped us. It says french patisserie, and french patisserie is what we wanted. And french service is what we got. The two girls working at the front — thanks Oz for bringing in so many french WHV — didn’t need training to act french… It took me back many years to that faraway time when I was living in Paris and… But I digress… And french patisseries is what we opted for. I tried the Gianduja, layered of chocolate, nougat and hazelnut. It was good yes, really nothing to complain about but nothing to rave about either. We also had a few macarons — raspberry, chocolate and what-not — the biscuits was great, light and fluffy, the inside on the other hand was way too sweet. I like sugar but not as a mouthfull. The prices are worth what you’re getting, especially in that area. So yes, do go and get your patisserie fix there, it’s probably the best you’ll eat around here.

OK, I feel guilty about awarding this place 5 stars but i absolutely must! Located on Shenton Rd in Swanbourne, 5 mins away from Cottesloe beach by car and 5 mins out of Claremont, Choux café is a definite for those who love patisseries. All choux sweets are made fresh by the patisserie and do run out by the afternoon so me sure to get in there early! I always go for the coffee but can never say no to a slice of cake… and a macaron… and a second coffee for the trip home haha.

A neighbourhood French patisserie that hand make all of their food, no preservatives and artificial flavourings. The cakes are very unique and similar to what you will find in places like Paris. If you are a chocolate love, try the Gianguja Cake it is layers upon layers of chocolate, nougat, hazelnut slowly cooked in the oven. The cakes are prices from $ 6.50 and to me the quality is worth the price. The café receives a lot of takeaway traffic and the macaroons are highly popular. They have a macaroon gift pack, I have purchased a few times for special occasions. Be in early so that you can select the full range of Macaroons as they sell out during the day. In addition to sweets the café sells premade baguettes, savory pastries, breads, quiches and a yummy tomato pastry tart. There is a rear courtyard which is nice to relax in.

My favourite thing about Choux is that we live just around the corner. This means I can call in any time of the day and help myself to a little bit of French heaven. Buying a fresh baguette in the morning is a ritual we have, and it is always gone by the afternoon. If I’m at home for lunch I’ll go around and buy a croissant or sandwich and sometimes in the afternoon I’ll pop in for a sweet treat. It’s reasonably high end food so it might be hard finding something for fussy eaters(although my friend is the worst and there’s always something there that she likes). It’s also best to get in just before school finishes so you can still score some of the delicious sweets before parents come in with their kids for a bit of afternoon tea. Definitely one of my favourite places to go, and the staff are always soo friendly

The French deserts come close to perfect. The macaroons are sensational like brilliant. They have so many different flavours and they are all equally as scrumptious. The cakes and tarts are also pretty special! They have an amazing lunch menu with some baguettes to die for. The coffees are pretty good nothing to talk that much about, they go nicely with a cake, but wouldn’t go there if it wasn’t for the sweet goodness.

Pass on the coffee but shovel into those French desserts. My oh my! Emmanuelle makes the best macarons in Perth. And if his creations were good enough for Poh’s Kitchen, then they’re good enough for me! Macarons are $ 2.90 each take away, and a little more if you’re dinig in, but $ 2 each if you get over 5. Orrrr: *HOTTIP*: If you’re lucky, and the kitchen has fumbled with a bit of butter-fingers that morning, you can get semi-broken macarons for $ 1 a pop! The macaron flavours are not only delicious but change seasonally. So there’s always something new going. I recommend the Chocolate-Orange. Choux also have a brunch menu, as well as other to-die-for French pastries and cakes. i haven’t tried brunch, but the cakes could be better than the macarons.

The macaroons here seem to be their signature dish and rightly so, they are so light and deliciously fluffy, not to mention colourful. They don’t only do sweet products, they also offer an extensive menu that includes beautiful savoury tarts and breads. They even have an obligatory gluten free option. The café area is very relaxing with an outdoor courtyard. It is very popular locally so if you are in a rush you may want to come very early. Whether you take the pastries home or eat them there you will be pleased.

When I was in Paris a few years ago, I came across the most amazing baguettes, oozing with brie cheese… mmm, I remember it like it was yesterday. I never thought I could come across anything so marvelous ever again, especially not in Perth anyway; that was until one afternoon when I sat down at Choux Café. I thought I was day dreaming as I gorged once again into a freshly baked baguette filled with brie, it was absolute heaven! As I thought it couldn’t get better than that, my friend talked me into trying one of their eclairs(knowing they are my favourite), I will tell you now that I will never go any where else but Choux Café to buy eclairs ever again! At least now I can save the expense of flying to Paris just to get a baguette and spend it at Choux Café on their delicious variety of tarts, quiches and desserts.
