Went to Purl Bar Thursday around 6.15. Was met by a friendly staff member– a good start. We had a scoopon voucher for two that gave us a main meal and a desert and glass of wine each. Good choice of food. Food main meals were very acceptable without being top notch but the sweets — a mousse infusion was very delicious. For a wine bar cum restaurant it was above average. Good range but not extensive range of wines and cocktails. On Thursday nights they have a sole musician and he was pleasant to listen to. Wait staff friendly. Recommended.

I have been to Purl at night and its such a trendy bar but as beautiful as this bar is, the food and service during the day are terrible. I ordered an Innocent Mojioto, $ 10, and a premixed drink that tasted nothing like a mojito! It was terrible! I then asked for a Solo with no ice and got a glass of Soda Water and a fresh mojito, this time it had mint in it. Down to the food, it was just as bad, I ordered the Chicken Maryland, $ 26, and received an overcooked leg of chicken, two potatoes and three stalks of asparagus. The dish was drowned in oil also. I never expected to pay $ 26 for a leg of chicken and two potatoes. The venue wasn’t busy during the lunch time rush hour and I think it speaks volumes. By the time everyone was served, some of us had finished eating, we had booked the table so it’s not like they weren’t expecting us. Terrible food at expensive prices!

Okay maybe it’s just the night but this place flunked big time. We had a scoopon for a cheese platter and two cocktails. We got there at 6.30pm on a Sat and they were fairly quiet. Had booked via Dimmi. On arrival they didn’t really have a seat for us–«you can wait til that table is free as there nearly finished or we can get you a table outside as we have two functions on tonight. After waiting at the bar for a while we went outside and for cracking ordering cheese platter and a a cocktail. Lucky we did as they were too busy setting up for function that it took 40mins to get the cheese platter! It was two slivers/pieces of cheese, lavosh crackers, sliver of quince and some muscatels. The only reason we got the cocktails straight away was we ordered them via the bar tender as he delivered them. The manager– we think– who served us was too busy setting up for the function to put in our order. Not happy as we were here weeks ago with a much larger group and had no dramas. I think they need to delegate better. Anyway my fiancé said he won’t be back and I guess that’s the real pity. You have to remember all the customers.

Finally, a place I can feel comfortable, and hip. My wife and I are now exploring Subiaco. We moved here a few weeks ago. So we’re attempting to try a lot of the local bars, restaurants, cafes, and shops. So when I suggested we wander down the road and have a cocktail to get settled in, Purl seemed like the perfect place. Given Perth’s licensing laws, we had to also have a bite to eat with our drink, but we were both hungry, so it just seemed like a great excuse. My wife had the bruschetta, and I had pulled duck tacos. Both were really enjoyable, and although they’re snacks, they felt like a good size. More importantly the RBYC and Espresso Martini were delicious! Unfortunately, I had food envy, and my wife’s martini won the day. I’ll have to have that next time we wander past. The ambiance was great, and I collected a couple of extra song names via Shazam. A very cool mix of deep house that had me feeling like I wasn’t old and out of touch, but relaxed; I didn’t feel like I needed to understand the difference between a twerk and a booty pop. Now I just need an excuse to go back and get that Espresso Martini for myself.

We stopped in here for dessert and drinks post meal elsewhere. The dessert platter was DELICIOUS! plus we got table service and well looked after by the staff! Great range of cocktails, and what impressed me is the fact they will make them off the list. It apparently was Wednesday night student night, with reasonable drink prices aimed at the local university population. I suspect the place gets pretty busy and mad later on! Cool deco in the place.

I visited this hip little joint recently for cocktails and dessert on a date night, and we were not disappointed! It’s not a huge place, but it’s got a cool décor and good service… perhaps not surprisingly for this kind of venue, they seem to have selected staff that are charming, easy on the eye, and have a bit of a hipster vibe. We were there on a Wednesday night, and it was pretty quiet(~9−10pm) so we were able to have a whole corner of the restaurant to ourselves. There was a DJ setting up and apparently the place gets busy later in the evening, with dancing as well. I enjoyed the vibe, at least when we were there — cool but chill. They had a range of cheap-for-Perth($ 12) cocktails, and we tried a number — Mai Tai, Margarita, Moscow Mule, and a Pomegranate Collins. I thought the Mai Tai and margarita were the big winners, though my partner really liked the pomegranate as well. We also tried an amaretto sour(not on the menu), which was ok(not the best I’ve had,). Nice strong drinks, well-flavored, a little heavy on the ice, but would definitely have them again! I get the impression that exactly what constitutes the trio of desserts varies, but the night we were there it was a poached/caramelized pear, a sort of strawberry crème brûlée, and an amazing chocolate something… I don’t really know what it was except incredible salty chocolatey goodness! So delish. Would definitely come here for dessert in the future. Overall, fun, cool, full service bar, with a small dance floor, and some great food(dessert anyway, and I have faith in the rest). Fitting with Subi’s vibe.

Husband and I came for cocktails last night as we have recently moved to Subiaco and were checking out the new ‘hood. Even though it was Good Friday, Purl were open and serving food as well. They made it very clear when we arrived it would be an extra 10% because of the public holiday and we were happy they were upfront about it. I ordered an espresso martini and husband had the RBYC. Both drinks were delicious and well balanced. To eat we had some small bites: pulled deck tacos(three to the serve) and a side of bruschetta. The aged balsamic complemented the soft buffalo mozzarella and sweet, slow roasted tomatoes perfectly. This really was an excellent dish, one I’d happily pay 10% extra for! Friendly service was an added bonus! Will be back again to try the other range of cocktails and eats, for sure.

A staff party brought me back to Purl Bar, where I found the ownership had changed. The cheesy music had not but hey you cant have it all right. The staff were AWESOME so helpful, they really did everything possible to accommodate our every whim, we kept it as an open menu party so that we could each pick what we wanted, and not one of us had a complaint about our food. Everything was well prepared and fresh, the Catalano oysters were definitely a star! They have great beer and wine lists and tons of cocktail options. I am really glad I had an opportunity to revisit Purl, better vibe, better food, better service. With the new owners it’s just better all around! Good job Purl Team!

Great service, get there early on a Saturday night cause it gets busy! The weekend crowd is a fairly young crowd, 18 – 25.

Fun for a night out and Nic Brady runs a tight and fun ship. Fridays are the best but are also more enjoyable when you bring a group of your own. There quiz night on the first Tuesdays of most months are a must attend, however be careful because we are the reining champions!!!

Visited Purl for their Tuesday quiz night which good fun. The atmosphere and vibe was nice and relaxed but still with a good energy. Didn’t have chance to try the food, but I know it comes straight from curry powerhouse Chutney Mary’s next door so I’m sure it’s good. Bit peeved with drink prices, $ 12 for a ‘pint’ of beer(fairly sure it wasn’t a full pint glass) is a bit rubbish. But anyway, it is Subiaco I guess in the heart of WA. Worth a look.
