I’ve only been in here once due to the fact that whenever I walk by it’s quite busy. We stopped in one hot day for an iced coffee and an iced chocolate. I absolutely loved the iced coffee and my little guy loved his iced chocolate. The only disadvantage to the place was the service. They didn’t seem to be quite as busy at that time of the day but the coffees took quite a long time to be prepared. I would have expected, with the amount of customers there, that the coffees would have been ready in under 5 minutes but it was about 15 minutes that we had to wait. I’m not sure if the wait is like this all of the time, but it’s a bit worrisome if you are in a hurry to get a coffee and they take 15 minutes to prepare it.

Grocery Bar is like my personal Cheers. Despite not being from Melbourne, this is the place I seem to often run into people I know. Both the coffee and food are consistently great, but perhaps skip their chai if you like yours with leaves. My vote on the menu goes to fruit toast topped with ricotta, strawberries and toasted almond flakes. I have also heard a fairly dependable source claim this place makes the best eggs benedict around. Yummmmmmmmmmmmm. A little request though… this place really isn’t for sitting with your laptop. Drives me crazy to see a place this good with packed to the rafters and waitstaff run of their feet but a whole line of folks sitting on their own with laptops or the paper. If you’re not eating or drinking, you’re not a customer and you owe them rent. Sunday afternoons see Grocery Bar play host to live music of all sorts of persuasions. Gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian and whatnot friendly.
