Yo! GB. What’s that short for«Gangsta Brew» but I came thru and didn’t have an espresso or use shampoo so… Check this for real. 3 stars on the food when u compete with miss Jackson banging out mean beast mode flavours around the corner and I warn ya not far is Journeyman if ya jump in the car so I feel if GB wanna keep it real they better steal some notes from the other homies holdin it down since day 1 on the sustenance level. The playas running things are friendly and no Dance off’s for a seat. But if ur on the Fitzroy beat and need ta creep a quick peep ya pockets nah need to be deep to cap a need to for the feed.

After a bit of an un-welcomed experience at a popular joint up the block(Fitzr)Oy-veh(a)!), we sauntered on down towards Canterbury and came upon GB Espresso.(You know how it is: You’ve gone to an eatery that you’ve had good experiences at and are excited to return to, then, out of left field, you’re given the cold-shoulder? The slap-in-the-face turn-away can leave quite a stingy aftertaste that’s hard to rinse, even with Listerine. Well, that’s kind of how we were feeling trying to figure out where to go next; thus, we semi-reluctantly decided to give GB a try, mainly because we were having vacant stomach pangs…) It was nice that there wasn’t a throng of sheep herding at the outdoor tables, so we captured a nice spot in the shade with our pooch, CJ. The cheerful server came out to greet us immediately, and our spirits picked up. Water was served, and coffee orders promptly taken. Upon her return, we both chose to go with potato, parsnip & chive cakes with melted Heide Raclette cheese, roasted bacon & poached eggs(w/house tomato relish)(A$ 15.90). As our friendly wait-gal returned with the orders, both our eyes spied a couple of plates that made our respective stomachs groan a bit: Upon first glance, the portions looked a tad on the wee side. J’ai faim! J’ai faim! It is what it is, n’est-ce pas?(Bloop!) I was like some ravenous mongrel, barely able to contain my outward civility! The plate barely hit the table and my fork was digging in! I’m not sure if it was because I was famished, but — besides size — I really couldn’t find any fault with the dish. Flavors were excellent; texture was fine. At the end, for both of us, the meal was both satisfying and filling. As a first-time experience at GB Espresso, I have to say that I’m a fan, indeed. No doubt, a second(and maybe even a third) visit will be telling. For now, though, food and amiable customer service are deserving of 4-stars.

My first experience at GB Espresso was a two thumbs up morning. We took a table outside since we had our 4 legged fur baby with us. The waitress was very quick to come out and bring us menus and water, and take our coffee order. Moments later she returned with our 2 extra hot mochas and took our food order. I had the Potato, parsnip & chive cakes with melted Heide Raclette cheese, roasted bacon & poached eggs with house tomato relish. It was delicious. The potato cakes were cooked perfect, light and fluffy. The Raclette was the perfect compliment to the cakes and the poached egg made it all come together in perfect harmony. Looking forward to our next visit.

This place has moved up to 5 star in my book. I love the coffee they have, the staff is very tolerant of little children and their food is definitely amazing! Just recently I had an apple cinnamon muffin and honestly could have gone back for a few more prior to heading home. Definitely a place worth stopping in to get awesome coffee and food!

Very impressed by the new GB Espresso — great coffee by 5 Senses and barista Tom, cosy atmosphere and for the love of goodness, the gin-cured salmon is a MUST if you are partial to either gin or salmon! Wonderful attention to detail, beautifully presented local produce and drinks, and some exciting drink specials — turkish apple Pimms tea and Cherry vanilla hot cocktails — yes please!!! Overall a giant win!
