This restaurant is used to be reallyyyy good. Not anymore… I went to the restaurant today because I know that the place is amazing but as soon as I got there, I’ve waited for someone to get my order for the past 12minutes and no one attended me — considering that the restaurant was not busy(this place used to be jampacked every weekend). I watched the waiter and waitresses and they are just slacking. So I decided to call them and grabbed their attention. Anyway, food — i ordered Paella and it didn’t came through. I waited for half an hour and when I asked one of the girl and she said she don’t know what happened there and the order wasn’t in the system. Obviously I waited for nothing. Worse service today. :-(

Visited here for breakfast on the recommendation of the conceirge at the hotel I was staying at. Being just on the edge of the CBD means that you can have a nice relaxing breakfast without it being overly busy. Staff were friendly enough and the eggs on toast with mushrooms and spinach was good. Doesn’t get the five stars as didn’t have multigrain available, which first thing in the morning was a little odd. Not expensive either(less than 20 for coffee and breakfast)

I went to Jak+Hill because I stayed at Punthill apartments, above them. They’re in a less frequented side street but given Brisbane CBD is such a busy place there’s foot traffic everywhere, even on the more hilly parts. They’re a step down from the street level and offer plenty of inside and outside seating. Somehow it feels quiet and peaceful, in a courtyard kind of way, even though it’s in the middle of Brisbane. Regular Café prices, high quality coffee, high quality meals, fast service with a smile = 5 stars. The coffees and meals I had there were all good and I’d go back any time. The presentation was excellent. They don’t bother you during your meal apart from that one single visit, to see if you’d like ‘another coffee’ or ‘another beer’ which I think is not only great add-on selling but terrific service… as long as they don’t ask twice. As I was staying at Punthill I didn’t pay at any time and simply had it all attached to my room bill, even my morning take-aways.

Superb breakfasts! I recently stayed nearby for a few days and was blown away with how good the breakfasts are here. Their take on eggs benedict is wonderful, and their pancakes were also pretty great. The coffee is good enough for me too, though I am certainly not a coffee snob. That being said, I did find their mugaccinos very milky. Overall, I would recommend this place and will definitely come back.

Since our arrival in Australia four days ago we’ve made a habit of going for great breakfasts, and Jak + Hill didn’t let us down. The vibe is laid back but busy, with lots of city workers stopping off for their morning coffee. The menu offers everything you could want for a great breakfast, from pancakes to eggs, and their speciality«Jak’s Benedict». I chose scrambled eggs with toast and sides of avo + feta and halloumi. The food was delicious, with the eggs nice and creamy and the avocado was very tasty indeed. The one slight let-down was that the orange juice is bottled rather than fresh-pressed, but otherwise it was a lovely breakfast with friendly staff.

Have been a few times for lunch — there is a good range of food on offer and they do breakfast during lunch(always a win!). The food is generally tasty(albeit a tad expensive for some dishes) and the staff are nice.

Excellent. My girlfriend and I ate here twice over the weekend and covered most of their new menu. My new favourite breakfast/brunch place in Brisbane. We’ll be back. 4 stars because the flat whites/espressos could be stronger and richer but that’s just for my taste.

Where to start… Hands down the best brunch place I’ve been to. I go out to brunch a lot as it’s my favourite meal and this place just kept on impressing. My standards are high and I expect good things, and even with high expectations I wasn’t disappointed. We just missed rush hour by coming in just after 10am which also may have been a reason why everything was perfect. The service and staff were friendly and quick to help. My coffee was made before I could finish my sentence… literally in a blink of an eye it was on the table… and it tasted fantastic! It also had some cute«latte art» on the top which was lovely. I am a coffee snob and it was a good coffee. They even do Zymill which is always a bonus for me! The food was quick to come out and not short of impressive. Impeccable presentation and the taste was even better. The serving size was beyond generous and the produce was totally fresh. You can taste the difference trust me! They also were more than happy to adapt the meal, adding things like smashed avocado to the side and removing the capers. No fuss, no problem… they just accept what you’ve said… even if you’ve told them after they’ve taken the order. Jak+Hill is spacious and perfect for big groups. As far as I know they also take reservations. The location is beautiful — slightly tranquil yet in the hub of the city. If you don’t want to drive or pay for parking(which is reasonable on the weekends), it’s only about a 10 minute walk from Central Station. It is somewhat uphill but not strenuous. It’s safe to say I cannot recommend this place enough and that everyone should get here. It’s perfect for all group sizes and taste buds. One of the original reasons I chose this place — easily caters for everyone. There is a wide range of menu items to choose from, some being GF as well. So whether you’re into a hot breakfast, more the cereal type, prefer fruit or don’t know what you’d like, there is literally something for everyone. I won’t stop raving even if you try to stop me. Worth a visit! Just remember it gets busy so I’m assuming they’ll be some standard delays if you’re there at peak hour…

Jak and Hill is located on Astor Terrace in Spring Hill, a bit of an uphill climb from the Brisbane CBD. I arrived just before 9.30am and the café was bustling. All the outdoor tables were occupied and I made my way to the counter to ask for a table for 3. I was directed towards a table in the corner with a «9.30am Reserved» sign on it. It was by the glass wall and was close enough to the air-conditioner for me to feel its cool blast. My friends arrived not long after and we had a bit of a chat before the owner arrived at our table to take our drinks order. I asked for a skinny cappuccino, my current coffee of choice. This was quite good with a mild flavour. I chose the homemade corn fritters for my meal. I asked if I could have scrambled egg instead of poached, scrambled being my favourite but this request was declined due to it being a busy time. I went with the bacon option instead of the smoked salmon. I love both but hadn’t had bacon in a while. My friends ordered the omelette, and the potato rosti and eggs benedict which was one of the specials. While we were waiting for our order we continued our chat and also took the opportunity to look around the venue. It’s quite a nice place and elegantly furnished in light tones which contributed to the feeling of openness. There were a few photos of people on the wall next to our table and the owner told us one of the photos was of a couple who met there. How sweet! I think it’s a brilliant idea to have a place where the regulars can put up photos of themselves, which gives it a sense of home and belonging. Our meals arrived and my dish was very satisfying. The corn fritter was delicious, the bacon was juicy with a crispy edge, the rocket was fresh and the relish was so tasty I wanted to ask if they sold it in a bottle so I could bring it home. I almost didn’t mind the poached egg after all that, though I did leave it to last. I think it was a perfectly good poached egg, having the required runny yellow yolk. Service was friendly and the owner was very engaging which made me feel very welcome. She also gave us a sample of their chocolate brownie and my goodness was this a treat for my tastebuds. So good I was making very appreciative noises while devouring it. In summary, delicious food, friendly service and comfortable seating.

Located on the edge of Brisbane City, at 40 Astor Terrace Spring Hill is family owned Jak and Hill café. A perfect setting for catch ups with lovely friends in a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. The delightful owners who are originally from Melbourne, have brought something special to Brisbane, with their amazing service, delicious food & awesome coffee from AllPress. There is lots of comfortable seating, indoors & out, but we highly recommend that you book a table as we have noticed how popular the place is. The feature wall-papered wall with photographs stuck on them, gives the place a personal touch which we liked. We decided on Brunch here, and ordered the: 1) Open Omelette with thick cut toast, Kipfler potatoes, braised leeks & gruyère cheese with an extra side of bacon($ 17 + $ 4), 2) Board special, «Jak Benedict» of Housemade rosti, bacon, Avocado feta, 2 poached eggs, truss tomatoes, fresh basil & creamy home made, hollandaise($ 18.50). 3) Banana soy smoothie with cinnamon & honey. The Jak Benedict was an absolute winner & favourite of the two, whilst the Banana soy smoothie washed it down perfectly. We were also lucky enough to sample some of their lindt chocolate brownie, and it is absolutely amazing. Could possibly be the best brownie we have ever tried. The only downside to Jak and Hill, and it’s more a comment on the Spring Hill area itself, is the lack of parking spaces, which means you may have to walk a bit(and a Hilly walk at that), to get to your car or bus stop. But then again, eating all that food, well, it’s probably a good thing to walk it off & feel like you’ve just stuffed yourself & exercised somehow. There’s always a silver lining to everything! Jak and Hill is open 7 days a week, from 7am till 8pm for Brekkie, Lunch & dinner. Every Wednesday is Beer & Burger day! You can either choose a grilled chicken or Angus beef burger which comes with chips & a corona for $ 20. That sounds like something to try for next time.

We’ve been on a french toast mission, so we went here to try. I think Punthill is an apartment hotel, thus this place is the eatery of the hotel, meaning it is open 7 days a week and does brekky, lunch and dinner. The trouble with Spring Hill, weekend or not, is that there is a lack of public parking unless you like a longish walk. Spring Hill, is also, as its namesake, hilly. So unless you are staying there, this is really a bit out of the way. Unfortunately, it is not extraordinarily brilliant enough to warrant a huge effort, so go there if it’s convenient, but don’t worry too much if you can’t. Food and service were ok. Coffee good enough. I really did like the ambience of the place, and being off the main road meant it was a pleasant noise level. The menu has plenty of interesting things on it. Many tables are large and roomy which means if you have a bigger group you can feel comfortable here.

Went here for breakfast with the family. Beautiful little set up with a very quirky atmosphere. Had the corn fritters with smoked salmon, avocado and relish. Absolutely wonderful meal, huge in size. More than enough for one person and great value for money. The avocado smash with feta and tomato is also a fantastic choice and gluten free toast can be substituted. Fairly good coffee, not fantastic but not horrible. Highly recommend visiting on weekend as parking is easier around the area.

My fooding adventures have been on hiatus for quite a bit, and will be till the end of this year, but I decided to take a break from all the craziness to visit Jak+Hill. From others’ photos, the food looked decent, so I chose this one place. I had high hopes, after seeing their breakfast options and fairy floss dessert, but alas, I was underwhelmed. The location and place itself is decently decorated and in the middle of Spring Hill, but it wasn’t particularly eye-opening. The girls there were friendly, but a bit disorganized service-wise(throughout my entire meal). I ordered a coffee to start, and as expected, was just alright. For sustenance, I had the corn fritters with smoked salmon on the side, but I almost didn’t finish the corn fritters! They were lukewarm, chewy, and tiny! There were two — and smaller than the size of my palm, with a bit of smoked salmon, a poached egg, and rocket with tomato relish(that just tasted like tomato sauce). The presentation and the service were alright, and their lunch options looked good by the way other customers were chowing down… but they really need to work on their breakfast if they’re going to keep serving it all day!
