It kinda feels like an old fashioned pharmacy when you walk in .lol… they have a massive selection of cakes and baked goods and coffee. They roast their own coffee and the house blend is quite full bodied. i highly recommend the macarons and the chocolate and salted caramel peanut tart!

Nice café found at the bottom of Top Ryde shopping center. There is a good assortment of desserts available, I decided on a chocolate cupcake with fondant icing and a soy cappucino(yep, I’m finally learning to drink coffee!) The cupcake was good, although a bit crumbly. This would be a good place to just hang out if not for the prices — it’s relatively pricy, even for a Sydney, with quite a substantial difference between eating in and taking away. I ordered my coffee in a takeaway cup but I got it in a mug instead, slightly annoying also because the mug was more expensive.

A few years back I picked up their choc mu cake for my dad’s birthday and the whole family loved it. Dense, moist and rich chocolatey goodness! I remember enjoying every single morsel. A few weeks back I ordered the cake again for my birthday, in the hope that it would be exactly the same. I ordered it on a Friday via the phone with no issues for a Sunday pick up. Be prepared to prepay via credit card though. You can also order online but because it was less than 48 hours I guess I couldn’t order it online. I bought the large size for $ 50. Had the cake on the Sunday with no complaints except that a huge slice was not the way to go as it got a bit much for some! It was exactly how I remembered it and is still one of the best choc mud cakes I’ve had. Not for the faint hearted! The other day, hubby and I were really wanting another slice of this cake and thought that even the smallest size of the cake was probably not the healthiest food option as we’d probably devour it ourselves! We ended up getting a precut choc mud slice that looked like it was cut from a log shaped cake. Sadly, the precut cake was not as good as the full cake we had a few weeks back. Still damn good and probably good enough for those that don’t have a sweet tooth. So, you’d think I’d have given this place a better star rating… Unfortunately, the place falls down in its customer service and how they pack the cakes for take away. The cakes are not cheap. The cakes and pastries are on the expensive side but for some it would be well worth paying that premium and for the mud cake, I’m happy to pay that. It’s a shame, however that they put it in a paper bag without even a cardboard box to ensure it stays exactly how it is displayed and presented. If I made such beautiful and tasty morsels, I’d hate for it to be squashed, or less presentable by the time the person went home to enjoy the cake. Hubby asked for a bag just in case the paper bag broke on the way to the car(did I mention that the cake is quite dense?). They happily gave us one but it was your usual plastic shopping grocery bag! I’ve been to other patisseries who take much better care and cost either less or about the same. Real shame… However, I’ll probably still come back for the mud cake but only for the whole cake for another special celebration.
