The Deck Cafe and Bar Lounge

This was the second time I’ve been to the Deck and on both occasions it was to meet the owner of a very well known company in Australia. Which was confusing. Why do we always have to meet at the Deck and not in the board room? But then it all made sense. Boring boardroom vs Café zing and excitement?
The Deck has a great airy vibe, not too big (though still quite busy). Very corporate-​casual and enough room to squeeze four people around a table. Often in busy cafés I dread the potential long wait, but it never happened. I got my order quickly.
My cappuccino was excellent and not cold… which is often the case with some cafés. And I got my free little biscuit which was a very welcome gesture too. My business colleague opted for what she called «A very green tea» and it was, served in a clear glass Bodum tea pot with wire mesh strainer. And it wasn’t very green. Very green is a salsa verde. Or baby vomit. Of if you are a new dad (or mum) something you can’t «RETURN TO SENDER».
I do care for good coffee and being that my wife has just done a barista course, i suppose I ought to care more. But I’m simple. I like to sup and suck. And this gets my amateur seal of endorsement and thumbs up.

I’m a sucker for a GWP (gift with purchase) and The Deck gives me one. Every time you get a coffee, you get this little biscuit on top. It’s only little, but ridiculously good. This place does get busy in the mornings, but you can jump the queue by pre-​ordering on line, then rock up and pick up your coffee, ignoring the death stares from the folks freezing in line.
I drink decaf coffee (I know, what’s the point, right?) and so many places have dodgy-​tasting decaf, but the Deck gets it right every time. Smooth and tasty.
The people running it are great, they remember names and faces which is nice, and their food is quite good — the soup of the day is a generous serving, and the breakfast special, coffee and toastie for $ 9 is not a bad deal.

The coffee is great and the girls and guys always remember your name which is a huge thing for me if I’m going somewhere every day.
They have a great free loyalty program that adds 12c for every dollar to your account and it can be redeemed at the café or next door at Grand Central Park for the alcoholic beverages if desired (it’s also great if you happen to turn up without money in your purse but you’ve got enough for a coffee on your card)!. If you’re in a rush, you can pre-​order your coffee online and it’s ready and waiting for you one time, every time.

I liked the deck café, they can get quite busy but still do an above average job of getting people server quickly — no small praise for some Perth cafes.
They have a combination of prepared as sandwiches and treats with a simple menu with many of the common items such as burgers and Caesar salads… The couple tried have been a good quality but can be a little rich.
The coffee has been consistently good not special, they offer ver generous portions at a good price however, and they have been accommodating when I requested modified milkshakes and iced coffee.
Best of yet, out of hours this café turns into an extended lounge for The Grand restaurant /​bar next door.

A colleague of mine recommended the Deck, just at the base of Central Park and I must admit that I’ve certainly taken a liking to the smooth and flavourful organic Yahava blend. brew. A warm and friendly barista is always smiling and never fazed by the non-​stop orders. Ordering a $ 5 Large Triple-​shot skinny Cap is certainly worth it as it is frothy and creamy down to the last drop. If I have one criticism it would be that there was an overwhelming milk flavour at times
What’s cool now is that there is a mobile-​app which allows you to pre-​order and promises that you’ll never have to wait in line again. Will be keen on trying it out and letting you know how it goes.

This café was a bit of a surprise find as I was crossing the Central Park building from Hay Street to the Terrace. The design is incredible, and most of the produce is fair trade and organic. It’s built up on a deck with vistas over the leafy Central Park lawn area, completely open air and completely cool. I had a soy latte and banana bread — the coffee packed quite the punch, I liked it, but it could have been gentler. And the banana bread was moist with lots of spices. Terrace folk have quite the gem amongst the deadlines and the paperwork and the will-​this-​humdrum-​ever-​end? with this new haunt.
