Man, this was a trip down memory lane. Wizz Fizz and Ghost Drops, the good old days. I was happy to see that these are still in production and lining the shelves of this boutique chocolate shop. In addition to the old-school classics, Chocolates on Parade also stock a lot of American import chocolates and candies, like Reece’s, Hershey’s and Pop Tarts. This stuff isn’t too hard to find these days, but it’s good to know where to go if you’re in the mood for some sugary American goodies. Perhaps the best aspect of this shop is their homemade fudge. I go crazy for fudge, especially when it’s made locally and not by a manufacturer. You can really taste the difference. This stuff is seriously good, and there’s a selection of different varieties to choose from. Someone restrain me! Oh, and let’s not forget about all the chocolate!

This shop has more than just Aussie and foreign chocolates on parade. It also stocks a range of Australian and imported fudge, lollies and chips. GIFTS The shop offers a range of cute gift baskets and chocolate boxes. FUDGE The fudge range includes Baileys Irish Cream fudge. Yum! TRUFFLES There’s a great range of hand-made truffles on sale in this store that you can have put in gift boxes of various sizes. And I can forgive the typographic error on the sign on the front of the shop heralding premium ‘Belguin’ truffles because the BELGIAN truffles are so good. IMPORTEDSWEETTREATS As well as luxurious Belgian chocolates and truffles, the store imports lollies and snacks much loved by Kiwis, Brits and Americans, such as Buzz bars, Thornton’s toffees and Hershey’s choccies. There’s also Dutch liquorice on sale. FIZZYFUN There’s also a nice range of imported soft drinks. I always opt for the Scottish drink Barr’s Irn Bru, which is great at easing hangovers.

As a chocolate fan and major sweet tooth I should love this place — but I don’t actually visit very often. It’s not that the sweets selection isn’t good — it is, with US imports like Reece’s and Peanut M&Ms and Dr Pepper on the shelves as well as old-school faves like Wizz Fizz sherbet. But these are rare treats for me, I mean, who feels like Wizz Fizz on a daily basis? But I think the real reason I don’t come back that often is that their house chocolate isn’t exactly to my tastes. Yes, it’s homemade boutique chocolate which I’m fairly certain is made in the Adelaide hills, and yay for that — but overall I find it too over the top saccharine sweet for even me. Come for the candy — but try the chocolate before you buy if you can, it’s not for everyone.

Now who doesn’t want to suck on a Ghost Drop until their tongue turns blue? I know I sure do. This little sweetie store has all of your old school treats in the bag, such as Toffee Apples, Wizz Fizz’s, and of course Ghost Drops. They also have weird imported stuff, like stale looking American Pop Tarts, Baby Ruth bars, and of course, Reeces Pieces. They also stock a New Zealand delicacy called a ‘Snifter.’ Huh? The store is always cold as an icebox, so pop in for a browse when the heat gets you down. Don’t go for the service; they tend to be gum smacking slightly bored youths, but stay for the gift baskets and home made chocolate. The truffles and white chocolate frogs are a dream.
