I usually try to avoid chain restaurants and stick to a more local scene. On this occasion however I was looking for Australian game meat and OBJ was the only place close to my hotel that had it on the menu. I was happy that they had camel available even though I’ve had a camel burger at the Adelaide location before. What really impressed me was the chef had just got some crocodile ribs in that day and was offering them in a lemon pepper glaze. They weren’t even on the menu yet, my server gave me the heads up when I told him I was interested in what game meat they had available. I ordered the ribs with a camel steak skewer on the side. The camel was actually more tender and juicy than I expected. They ribs were fall off the bone tender just like you would expect pork or beef. I usually wouldn’t give a chain restaurant more than three stars but the place is pretty cool. The staff was helpful and friendly and the food options obviously impressed me. Finally, the tip jar really made me laugh.

Went here with a couple of friends who were visiting Perth. There were 4 of us and when we arrived and the first thing they said is that we needed a booking — the place was virtually empty, and stayed that way for the entire time we were there, they eventually seated us at a table near the back. Our steaks were OK but not amazing. Our server was friendly always made sure we had enough drinks and that our plates were cleared.

Had the worst service. Our steaks came an hour or so late. Steak was well done I ordered at medium rare. Had to remind them at least 3 times for our water. Never going back again.

I’ve had friends from the US staying in Perth this week and they were keen to try OBJs after we had a couple of beers in Northbridge. First up when we arrived and asked for a table for five, do you have a booking? There we about 15 patrons in the place that looks like it would seat 100. OK got over that with the guy at the front counter. Once seated 5⁄8 mins for the waitress to come and see if we would like drinks, must have thought we were camels ! Food was slow to arrive once we had ordered, small servings and on the high end on pricing for steak’s, one sent back to cook a little longer, ordered medium came out rare. My visitors were happy, but I think the is room for improvement in all aspects of the place. My first and last visit wrapped up in one night.

Pretty happy with the place, had a great meal here. Serve timing was impressive — two steaks, one bleu, one med/rare, both cooked perfectly and served at the same time with accompanying glasses of wine(y) without too long a wait either! Menu layout was a little funny — I would expect the premium steaks list not to be snuck in at the back — but front and center. Well spaced, not too loud. Service was probably not the best, but(in all the unfortunately wrong ways) that sort of fits in with the Aussie vibe of the place. Prices are up there, but no worse than what you would pay for a sub standard steak in any Perth pub!

I took my brother here for his 13th birthday because he wanted good ribs — and we got the biggest and yummiest ribs we’ve ever had! The service was great, the food came out quick and we really enjoyed ourselves. Delicious!

Its bizarre because it is obviously branded in the Australian theme, but it felt like I had stepped into an American steak house. It looks, feels and tastes like an American steak and rib house, not that that is a bad thing. The ribs here are suburb, but be prepared to get pretty dirty, I had to have a shower when I got home, I looked like I had been digging for gold in a muddy swamp. They do every steak under the sun here, even wagu beef which doesn’t give you much changes from a gold note. To tell you the truth, if I was going to eat Wagu beef, I don’t think I would eat it here. The steaks were all cooked perfectly though, they also have a cooking guide on the menu to explain, rare, medium rare. medium and well done and this is the first time my husband has not sent his steak back as it wasn’t rare enough. That is quite an achievement. The staff are friendly, but it still is quite pricey here, considering it is far from fine dining.

Best and delightful food no doubt. Kids would love it here as they have play stations to amuse themselves whilst the parents dine. From Sunday to Thursday, kids eat for free with an accompanying adult. Men folk would love it here as they serve huge juicy steaks. Not a fan of steaks, I rather pick the burgers though and enjoy a good bowl of soup and garlic bread. Ah, my ideal staple food!

Steak is one of those things that’s pretty hard to do wrong, and you’d think somewhere that specializes in it would get it right. The biggest surprise, was that the steak comes with no sides. No chips. No salad. Thoroughly disappointing overall, slow service and rude staff made for a poor experience overall. Mis-steak.

This is a great place to go with friends before a night out in Northbridge. It has a fully licenced bar and a great atmoshpere. If you’re getting food to share with mates I would recommend the Boss’ Finger Food Taster, but the steaks are the real draw at OBJ’s. All the food here is incredible, and the set-up of the restaurant is a unique idea — your waitress will seat you and take your drink and starter orders but for the main course they have an in-house butcher counter where you order your mains and choose the exact piece of meat you want. The menu is massive, they say they have the ‘largest selection of steaks in the world’, but if you’re after an incredibly tender steak try the Boss Cockys Cut. It’s a little bit more expensive but so worth it! They recommend that you order your steaks medium-rare, but in my opinion they slightly over-cook the meat in here, so if you want medium-rare ask for rare, if you want medium ask for medium-rare and so on. It would also be a good place to go on a first date because it’s lively but not too loud, and if you get stuck for conversation at any point there are plenty of novelty things you can make small talk about like the butcher counter, the size of the menu or the massive crocodile on the roof!
