I’ve been a fan of Raincheck lounge for a number of years… I think they’ve been open for just over ten now! Anyway I’m a huge fan of their coffee and super easy atmosphere! This is the kind of place you can roll in an just have coffee and be left along on the couch to read a book or paper in a nice environment… no hassle to move along or order more. If you do go for some food expect it to be full of good flavored and calories! I particularly love their burger options and huge breakfasts!

I don’t know why the average rating is so low because I have loved everything I’ve eaten here. Their Spanish omelette is full of cheese, chorizo and flavour and it’s huge, the maple syrup, bacon and banana French toast is also a delicious feast. I had a flourless chocolate cake one night too, which was decadent, chocolatey and so, so satisfying! The décor is nice and homely, it’s always warm and the staff have only been friendly

The service was fine. The eggs royale were kinda weird and lacking seasoning. The soy latte was bitter. The place was bustling, although I’m sure it’s more about the atmosphere than the food or coffee…

Good food, ok coffee, great atmosphere and waitstaff with a refreshing sense of humour.

Every time I go here I feel the same — it has lots of potential, but fails to live up to it. The food is ok, but nothing unique or special to differentiate it from other cafes around Hobart. There is nothing specifically wrong, the food just lacks imagination. The place is generally crowded, and I think that is more to do with location than anything else.

I really like the Raincheck Lounge. The atmosphere is always great and the décor is funky and fun(did I really just say funky?). During the day they serve good quality café food and at night they swap over to a pretty good tapas menu. The food and coffee is consistently good, but service can be a little slow when they’re busy — if you are in a rush make sure to let them know.

Hmmm, why is this place so popular with the locals? Unfortunately I didn’t find out on this visit. Their menu is short and varied, just what you need early in the morning. I wouldn’t choose to eat here for breakfast again, for a number of reasons. The coffee was good but not great, there’s a lot better in Hobart, They have tried to put their own twist on eggs benedict, bacon instead of quality ham, not only that, the bacon was full of fat, To add to the cholesterol they have also added cheese. So if you feel like a mouthful of fat then maybe you’ll love it. The bread was way too thin and tasted like it had been bought from coles from their so called gourmet section. Presentation was also poor mind you I suppose its too hard to dress up a plate of fat. Service was good to start with, an attentive waitperson, but the meal took a while to come out. When paying my bill, I decided that the counter staff need a holiday to learn to relax again. They really need to use more quality locally sourced produce. The good points were; a great space, egg yolks were runny, and the sautéed Huon mushrooms were delicious.

Hobart is quite small and restaurants and cafes seem to be in Salamanca Square or on Elizabeth Street. Salamanca Square has mostly restaurants so we went to Elizabeth Street in search of brunch. We walked past a few establishments and they looked quite average, then we walked by Raincheck Lounge, which was filled with people. Clearly, Raincheck Lounge is quite popular with the locals so in we went. And how was it? Pretty good. On the menu are the usual breakfast dishes, but what I found really great on the menu is the Eggs Benedict with house smoked salmon. The salmon is actually smoked salmon versus cured salmon — the difference between smoked to pink and ‘smoked’ to bright pink. They also serve decent coffee. So if you’re in the area and want a proper breakfast/brunch, go to Raincheck Lounge.
